      Unfortunately I didn't start watching them until the late 90s. I wish I had done so sooner, but As the World Turns was on the same time as Another World. These were some good shows and it was a travesty for CBS to throw them away when they were two oldest soaps on. They just didn't want to keep them around because Procter and Gamble owned them and the network couldn't mess with story lines. I only wish someone would have picked them up even if it was a smaller network like WB. They get most of their revenue from syndicated reruns, infomercials and local programming though. That's why they wouldn't pick up Another World when the producers spoke to them.

      Same here. I wasn't able to watch all the time starting in the early '00s. I knew that the younger generation (Aaron, Alison, Luke, Faith, Lucy, et al) had become older, replaced by older actors, and now the focus. I knew Lily had been recast, and hopefully a successful one (after the mistake with Heather Rattray, no offense to the former family film teen star). But I was only able to watch once in a while and missed some excellent storylines, such as Luke and Holden's (presumed dead again) kidnapping. So tragic that Jen Munson, Julia Lindsey, and Rose D'angelo characters tragically died and were murdered respectively. Even more tragic when Ben Hendrickson committed suicide and Hal Munson was simultaneously killed off. I wish muscle-bound, moustached Duncan McKechnie (hunky Mike Swan) came back (Did he? Even for a guest appearance? Hopefully bare chested!). I heard Julianne Moore reprised the roles of Frannie and Sabrina again. It would have been nice to have Mary-Ellen Stuart and Claire Beckman, respectively, return as well! I loved them too!

    • @thenewctc
      @thenewctc 7 лет назад +2

      Umm Julia Lindsey(Jack's X Wife,) Didn't die, she went nuts and fled Oakdale while in persuit by the cops. Julia Larrabee(Played by Sarah Joy Brown) was murdered.
      Glad Julianne Moore returned in April of that year but not alot of old vets came back for him the final year like Guiding Light...they had TONS of special guest returns!
      Martha Byrne should have been in the last episode as Lily minimum..no explanation need!! Rip Rose De Angelo.

    • @38yofrmut
      @38yofrmut 7 лет назад +1

      Correction: Julia. Julie is referred to as Julie Wendell Snyder (Sue Marie Snyder), Caleb Snyder's (Graham Winton, RIP Mike Morrison, taken too soon) wife 2x. Julie also had flings with Tonio Reyes (Pete Boynton), Linc Lafferty (Jim Wicek, later Lonnie McCullough), Andy Dixon (Scott DeFrietas), and a one-night stand with Holden (Jon Hensley) resulting in Aaron.
      Correction: Moore.

    Goutman had flaws, in 2010 everyone hated him and he hasn't worked daytime since, but he kept the show looking like it had a normal budget when in reality it was broke. Let's remember 2 years before cancellation ATWT was #3 so not so bad. Had CBS had the interest the show still had life in it.

    It's 5/25/22 and I hadn't thought about ATWT for a long while, but Katherine Hayes died this year. So so much has happened since ATWT went off the air. Had to find this and watch it today (the day after another tragedy) for some memories of a time long ago when life didn't seem so complicated and frightening. Maybe I'm glossing over the past, but I watched it as a youngster with my grandmother and then on my own raising family and then later and then it was gone. It's like a grew up with the families on ATWT. They tied up most of the loose ends so nicely leaving hope for the future. The title says it all - and we move on. But today I had to be there for awhile before the world turns again.

I disagree with comments that Lisa was short changed by not having better scenes. I feel the writers gave this show and all its remaining characters a proper send off. I remember my mother watching this show during the whole time Joyce and Lisa were fighting over Grant. That is when I basically got hooked for a little while. Being in my late teens in the mid eighties, I fell madly in love with the Snyders and the whole Lily, Dusty, Holden storyline. Is still remember the scene In the barn when Iva told Lily she was her real mother. Terrific acting by all involved. And who cannot forget John pulling Lucinda into the hottub fully clothed? Pairing those two together was perfect casting. I cried during this last episode, even though I had strayed from it for a long time. My only regret is that they didn't give Lisa more scenes, especially with Bob and Kim. Or in some way put more of the "vets" in some kind of a final scene together. But all in all, I really enjoyed how the ending turned out. Like the saying goes all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately

      Daytime is already suffering with the hatred towards The View and the failing of The Chew and the cancelling of Jerry Springer (should of happen ages ago) and that just for starters. Women are now the growing numbers in the working class and don't have time to sit around and watch while the roast is cooking or dust the furniture while listening to their favorite soaps thus meaning the talk shows will suffer as well in the coming future. Ellen will keep herself on "top" but she'll never have the historical daytime ratings like Oprah. The Doctors will always be bringing in curious minds that want to self-diagnose or learn facts they'll never use plus the ladies will go for the hot, young doctor. Dr. Phil will stay since everyone will want to, again self-diagnosed their life problems and mental instabilities. Daytime is dead and Primetime isn't too far behind. Very few great shows left or recently new airing on free broadcast/ local channels. Not even Cable or Satellite is worth pay to watch as go for Netflix/ Hulu and Amazon subscriptions for orig. content that most suck in quality and interesting plots. Put it this way I whether watch the orig. Charmed or laugh at the heartwarming sometimes physical comedy of Laverne & Shirley over acts like the return of Will & Grace and Orange Is The New Black.

      I sure do miss these good old days of good TV. Back then the television shows were so good. The writers had an incredible imagination to create shows to watch. Now there are so many “reality shows” that are not actually reality, but scripted. Those programs are so stooped, in my opinion. I really wish they could create television programs like they used to. Those sure were the good old days! ❤️❤️❤️

    I wish that right before the final scene with Kim and Bob they would have had a scene with Lisa alone in her room.
    The telephone rings. Lisa answers. And a man on the other end says he is in town and would like to see Lisa. Then after a little conversation viewers might be able to figure out who the man is on the other end. It is Bennett Hadley!!! He says he has so much to talk to Lisa about after all those years. I think that would have been a nice ending for Lisa.

    I was really disgusted by the lack of respect for the Lisa character in this final episode, who was an integral part of this soap's success in the glory years. Resigned to a hallway and being a third wheel for John and Lucinda? That was so utterly wrong. Eileen Fulton is a soap legend and she deserved preferential time in this finale.

  • @jusssayin480

    They didn't treat Eileen Fulton very well in this last episode. Lisa was on the show almost from the beginning and she should have been with Bob at the end. They didn't even give her a happy ending like they did with most of the other characters.

    I know so many people, including myself, who still miss ATWT so much and don't watch CBS daytime (other than Y&R and B&B) anymore since they killed ATWT and GL. And the terrible ending they gave Luke and Noah, the first gay supercouple ever that is still inspiring millions of fans all around the world today in 2013, was a shame! Bring ATWT back with better head writers and producers, and this show will draw much better ratings than the crappy talk show that "replaced" it (which has fallen far behind General Hospital, especially in the key demos, in the same time slot)!

    • @SurfistaCopa
      @SurfistaCopa 10 лет назад +1

      ***** Yeah, but I was talking about the US and the huge progress that the success of Luke and Noah made possible. There would have been no Kyle and Oliver and no Will and Sonny (who are going to have the first gay wedding on daytime TV within the next month) if there hadn't been the success of Luke and Noah!

    • @SurfistaCopa
      @SurfistaCopa 10 лет назад +2

      ***** Firstly, things take a bit longer on daytime soaps in general, secondly Luke/Noah were the first teenage gay couple on any soap, that's why they took a bit more time in the beginning. That doesn't say anything about the quality of the acting anyway, and Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann turned every second into something magic.

    It's amazing how only two soap operas remain on broadcast television, and on ABC at that!! NBC shuttered "Days Of Our Lives" onto a "streaming service", and with their habit of reusing the same old plotlines (just adding new actors & actresses) I don't know how much longer people will bother tuning-in only to catch the same old story, just different people rehashing the same tired plotlines!
