When I was a little kid our TV was always on CBS. I still remember this day. It made me afraid every time there was a CBS news bulletin for years after this.
It was about 10:00 into the ATWT episode that Walter Cronkite first reported what was to become the greatest tragedy to strike at the United States of America since Pearl Harbor.
I remember my mom saying she was in the doctor's office when the nurse came into the waiting room and said it was announced over the radio that the president had been shot. That was in Lake Wales, Florida.
@@tonytune4342 I had heard that the news bulletin was during As The World Turns, and that since it was live, that when they cut back to the show, that you could tell how upset the actors were. It didn’t seem that way to me. I bet you are right and they didn’t even know.
The episode WAS taped in full for delayed telecast to those stations who couldn't carry the program "live" at 1:30pm(et). The producer was told NOT to tell the cast members what had happened in Dallas until after the show had ended. Finally, at 1:59pm, they found out- and watched CBS News' coverage of the assassination on a studio monitor. The unaired version of the uninterrupted episode is available for viewing at the Paley Center For Media.
CAN YOU FIND & upload any episodes of "The Carol Corbett Show"??? It was one of my favorite 1960s childhood shows to watch. It was a wonderful Children's Show; and Miss Corbett was a great Artist. She would teach you how to Draw on a big sketch pad. Each episode had a new Drawing. Please let us know. Thank you for this wonderful heartwarming Channel! All of the finest Shows that we grew up with as happy Baby Boomers♥️🇺🇸....and so amazing, yet so so devistating to recall this Newsbreak on the assassination of President Kennedy. As a Child, I remember the "saddest feelings of America" on that afternoon. GOD BLESS AMERICA & all people of the world today, during the worst of tragedies.
Don't figure out my age, LOLOLOL, but I remember 'The Carol Corbett Show". It was on this program that the cartoon 'The Mighty Hercules' was given a strong showcase. Happy Thanksgiving.
My mother who just died on February 25th used to tell me shecwas sitting in the den watching As The World Turns and giving me a bottle. I was almost three months old she was almost 21.She said when she watched this episode and it upset her. She said when my Father came home from work he didn't care about JFK. He drove a Tractor Trailor and they were in the Teamsters Union. Mom died of Alzheimers and Dad died from Cancer in 2012.

They instill fear and panic as a tactic. A scared population is more easily controlled and cowed into giving up their liberty.
Same here!!

I love watching the young and the restless, and As The World Turns from the 70s to 90s .🙂
Really not the point nor is it appropriate
I can't possibly imagine the depth of shock and sadness that viewers were feeling at that time! 😨😭
An incredible moment in history. Horrifying and significant
When the newsflash was announced during As The World Turns...the world stopped turning.
You...might say that.
Love this. Thank you🙋♂️🇺🇸
I know these people, I know there voices, if they are good people or.mean. Family. I loved them my whole life.
Yep. Don Hastings, Helen Wagner, Santos Ortega and Henderson Forsythe.
They need to bring back the old soaps. I know 3-4 are left but not the same.

It seemed so bizarre how they kept cutting back and forth with bulletins as the episode was in broadcast.
The show was live and the actors had no idea what had happened.

11:01- Norman Rose, announcer.
My grandmother told me about this,we was watching ATWT when president Reagan was shot at and she said it was the same way when Kennedy was shot
I have heard that the cast and crew of As The World Turns were not told until after the show was over
Break ins

The show was able to finish; then the world changed.

Happy Thanksgiving.
I was ten years old in the fifth grade when all this happened.
I remember this, I got to meet JFK in 1960 when he was campaigning for President.
Was Walter Cronkite in a sound proof box or something? A door kept on opening and shutting
I know! I can understand all of the shuffling of papers. Maybe they set up a makeshift sound booth?

My parents had a business, we sold Nu-Soft and Niagra Spray Starch. I barely remember JFK being shot.
Shame on the traitors.
Is the female actress Helen Wagner or Helen Shields? Helen Shields played Edna Rice 1962-63.
It's Helen Wagner
For the next few days, regular programming was preempted for all too obvious reasons.
