Mugen RR - The insane $100k+ Honda Civic

- One of the few original Mugen's series - the Mugen RR FD2 is not the average Honda Civic sedan. And doesn't even pretend.
Lighter, sharper, faster. And way more expensive.
Just 300 examples were made for Japanese market only and here is its story.
I remember seeing the U.S mugen civic in the showroom. It was beautiful
loved that entire lip/skirt/diffuser/spoiler kit it had, very clean. and even though it didn't add any power, driving that generation of civic was so fun due to the engine sound, especially on a canyon or windy road. it really didn't need more power, cause all the fun came from shifting and attacking corners.
@@kevinkim9620 yep and realistically those engines take mods very well. upgrade the exhaust throw in agressive cams and you have more power than the real RR
I have one. I want to get more unique Mugen parts for it.
I have one. Its awesome
i am a honda master tech and got into automotive stuff with an 04 civic si, well a long time has passed since then and i dont own a honda anymore but cars like these still inspire all these years later
ep3?
worst civic of all time, doesnt even count as owning a civic
@@nanerpussz a bit better than your car
Got lucky today seeing this in person. Greetings from Malaysia
fellow Malaysian spotted!!
This makes me want to resurrect my crashed FA5
You have to, don't let it die out. They don't make them like that anymore.
@aliefdrumline I might have to. I was actually thinking about pulling the k20 out to swap into something, like an eg coupe. We'll see.
Just do it
Lets do it! Don’t waste of time! 😅
@@jdm_eh9367 find a sw30 MR2 and throw that K20z3 in there. thats a fun and cheap jdm lotus elise right there.
I remember back when guys were saying the $26k sticker price was too much for a DC2 Integra Type R. Now those used cars sell for 2-3x that price at 20+yrs old. I suspect this Mugen RR will age well too.
Back in 2000 I had a 1989 Integra and went to the junk yard to gets some parts from one they said they had. It had a full Mugen/Mooncraft body kit that I got off it and fixed all the fiberglass and put it on my mint red Integra. I figured there where wheels too, but long gone. Years later. My brother works at a Honda plant and said the other day his boss bought them from that junk yard. Miss that car. I should of kept it. Never going to see another one in the states.
Civics are amazing but for 100K I'm buying an NSX or other JDM cars
100k on a jdm car? At that point, I'd start looking for supercars
Honda guys are crazyy lmao. I heard someone say that these older Hondas drive a lot like Porsches in respect to driving feel and engagement
Because they had the nearly the same suspension setup as the old porsches until they all went to double wishbone, it was the McPherson's.
Have you driven Hondas? They are the best handling cars out of all the mainstream grocery-getters.
@ I currently have a 99 em1. Bought that after I sold my skyline. Yea they’re great but for that money u can literally get an nsx too
@@blakebucknall4008 other way around, the double wishbones were the old ones
90s Honda are very special,it just took a long time for the mainstream car community to realise
I've owned EK DA DC and EG all B series
Try to drive one if you can 🙌
Mugen, Spoon and etc are so sick. Love the video too bro, these are so long to make
My buddy is building a Spoon S2K if you enjoy Spoon you’ll enjoy the process, @SloS2K
yeah they are hella pretty exp and more on right hand drive here in the philippines its left hand drive and since we have the fd civic that isnt usdm we just place on 3rd party copy mugen body parts on the regular sedan without any adjustments or whatsoever since they made it fit for the sedan
the usdm version can be converted to the japanese style civic and also install mugen kits but will however face fitment problems on installation
Just stumbled upon your content from my home page. Loving what I've seen so far. Great work mate.
@@mattoattacko thanks🙏🏼
Mugen has an extensive motor sports history, but not everyone can afford the cash they ask, for minimal gains. With $3000, someone can make a standard FA5/ FD2 faster. You’re paying for the name. The RR is an excellent car, but even as a devout Honda fanboy, I’d prefer to use that money for a clean stock NSX, a stock EK9, or DC2
"You’re paying for the name", of course, as always with any brand.
This needs a million views
When I have the money hopefully the price doesn’t shoot up like crazy. I would love to get my hands on one of these bad boys.
Expect to pay an extra 50-100k in the next 10 years
100k+ front wheel drive family sedan is unheard of
Bro, very well presented video and awesome information coming from such a small channel. Love it all. I have an FD2 Type R imported to Australia. ❤
@blakebucknall4008 thank you 🙏🏼
The Mugen FD2 bodykit gotta be one of the most beautiful kits for a civic.
I was working for a Honda dealership when the 8th gen Mugen Si was new. Worked on a few, was cool to see the watered down US type R lol.
Use it for its intended purpose - always! Enjoy your cars.
12 year old me picking every carbon panel and engine upgrade in los santos customs of the random economy car I stole in gta 5
I learned about these when i first got into cars and discovered japanese auction sites. There was an RR for $40k usd
Nice video! Always loved these Mugens
No disrespect to Honda but @$100k I am buying an JDM R34 or Evo.
most people will just buy a fd2 for 20 maybe 30k they going for now in japan . That's the last type R with a high revving N/a .
You can buy 4 evos for that price now.
@@dennischen8887 And there are 400 Evos for every one of these.
@@billymays7210 and?
as much i love the fd2r i would also consider a evo at that price
FD2 is still the best handling Civic of them all
I would use it as my long distance driver...
Put it on the open road let it run freely....
This history of this version of the car so interesting, however that's where my line's drawn. I don't think I could fork over 60-100k for a 260hp civic, but you do you with your money!
I'm a die hard Honda fan and I think 100k for a Civic is absolutely diabolical. I don't care how cool it looks or how fast it is on the track, you could do a lot of cool things with that money and I don't mean buying other cars.
One of the end game cars for honda boys, only rich ones though.
End game for Honda guys is an nsx type R.
@@dennischen8887 there are plenty of end game Honda cars that most guys won't ever be able to touch. S2000 CR, NSX Type S/R, EK9, FD2, DC2R, and the Mugen RR.
Went to a hond meet here in nz in my euro r cl7. 2 mugen rr came and stole the show
Lost my mind i wont lie
Great video❤ Shout out from Carlsbad New Mexico🌶
😃🙌
100k+ for 14hp and some carbon upgrades? For 100k+ you can get a GTR R34 direct from Japan.
@@SuperMyacc tell me about it. Although an r34 GTR is also overpriced. Just get an R33 GTR. Less than half the price on average with pretty much the same driving experience.
If i pay 100k for a civic better be the RR
Wow, finally, someone pronounces it correctly 😂
no?

Absolutely wonderful thing but last one I saw advertised for sale in the UK was 85k------not worth that imo----.
theres one for sale in perth australia for around $200k aud
@@9narrly wtf 😳
You could buy an NSX and have change for another NSX. Guess you'd have to be really a real dedicated Honda fan to pay that much.
Its cool but for 100k there is quite a lot of options i would rather spend my money on then a Civic. I can buy and get the mother of all s2000s built for that kind of money or just get an NSX.
This car was built in 2007? For that year with that specs is 100k okay.
But nowadays for 100k I would get a used Corvette Z06/ZR-1 or Porsche Stuff.
reading the comments saying better buy this and that . i mean this car price just gonna get up. it more like investment car rn.
if you saying the price it too much even the regular fd2 type r still going up.
sick car, ill stick with my fk8/fl5, Mugan RR 0-60 7seconds? WTF? im doing 4.87seconds in my 340whp FL5 and its half the price tag but not as rare. This is a collectors car.
For 100 k you could buy and restore a Renault Clio V6 and afford a holiday to the Nurburgring. 😅
Yeah and you would be left in the dust of this car at the ring. 😅
@@fabioribeiro5071 What is this, Forza Motorsport? 😂

@@karambiatosthat's a lot when you only weigh a tonne
@@fabioribeiro5071you do know the clio v6 isn’t a slouch by any means. These cars would probably perform somewhat similarly, and you could dump a bunch into the Clio for the price of the RR. You could also just build a civic and dust the RR
We got a magen but it was only body kit and suspension and was only in blue.
100k for a 6 second 0-60 is crazy.
The Civic Type R is more expensive than my Ridgeline damn
Hella sicc. I love my FBP FA5
Beautiful civic but I refuse to spend 100k on a car that has a 0-60 speed of 6 seconds 😂
I don’t even think it’s that, for me it’s just the fact that it barely makes any more horsepower than a factory civic, and it doesn’t cost much to get a civic to make some nice power.
the 8th gen needs to be in another racing game besides juiced man
It’s in a few actually, a lot of non mainstream games. The fg2 is in prostreet!
This is the last great civic honda ever made
Great content!!! Of course I subscribed!
6:27 That Original MugenRR use a Fake RR Emblem in Rear😓…

You could get a 911 for 100k that would run circles around this thing.
The sticker is approximately $50K USD (4,777,500 yen)
It would’ve been sick if they kept the carbon exposed on the bumper

To take an fwd car this seriously is bizarre...... a k20 turbo lotus mop the floor with this car and a bunch of porsche gt3 cars.

Is the new fl5 Mugen has a Mugen tuned engine or just Mugen accessories
@lordpis6479 there are no engine upgrades

I dunno may be in the minority here. I just feel that these “special edition” and “average” performing sports cars are overrated especially for what they cost. Like the several million dollars z tune r34 GTR or the 400r r33 GTR. Just get a base model and modify them to perform way better than these rare editions. And you can still add better aero, carbon parts, seats, etc., and still come up way cheaper. Unless you just want to show off the “badge” and feel special you have a rare car.
There are two types of people, you know...😅
If Honda's mission was outright performance, they would have thrown a turbo on everything. The average person or even the above average person could NOT get a civic to feel like this, regardless of what $$ they dump into it. Most aren't paying for the "badge" they are paying for the engineering. Hell, Gordon Murray's inspiration for his manual was the chain driven Honda S600...
@@billymays7210 just because you throw in a turbo does not mean it can perform better especially on certain circuits due to lag or other factors. With enough money, you can literally mod a car to be the perfect car better than what Honda originally intended them to be. Hence the term oem+. I have a track built s2000 for grid life, no turbo, but it will destroy a stock s2000 CR, or an NSX R on the track. And what engineering marvel are you referring to on these upbadged special editions? The special carbon aero parts that you can also purchase at an inflated price?
@@dennischen8887 All of those words and yet you responded to nothing because you missed the most important word in my response…
@@billymays7210 I can say the same about you. At least I have a point. You mentioned engineering and Honda’s mission yet you failed to explain and elaborate on your “points” lmao

Boring
I remember FD2 Type R was a 40-42k car and RR was 60-65k back in 2007-2011. S2000 was a 30-35k. Mugen RR has some mods made by Mugen but still a strut suspension car. I had a chance to see that bumper in person, which a friend made a quick release on his FA5. It is Nothing special.
