I love the enthusiasm and information. Though JZ80 supra actually shares the same chassis as the 1991 JZS147 Aristo/GS300 it was actually released before the supra with the 2JZGTE. It was designed by Gugario at Bertone, and also the fastest production saloon in the world (for 5yrs) around Nurberg ring and Tsukuba. The later 161 had Vertex and very rare Tom's editions.
Thank you! Being technically a 4-door Supra, Aristo is definitely a one more interesting topic to highlight. JZS147 3.0V performed the same as 500E and E39 M5...Tom's is the rare beast😈
2:20 and in that you are right, because there are ignorant people who say that the GTR and the Supra are only worth it, for a movie, and surely they do not know that they have history in the world of racing.
I saw the trd supra in Dusseldorf, Germany. Beautiful car but i guess it was just a supra with added badges as it had the original Toyota badge. Still very cool tho i still have pics of that beauty
Can you please make a video documenting the TRD2000 as a part 2 or continuation of this one? I saw one on Larry Chens channel and wanted to learn more. Great video and I can’t wait to watch more of your content. Liked and subscribed.
@VictorStoke thank you! Actually I've already started to collect an info about the 2000GT. Can't promise that it will be soon, but glad to read that you're interested 😊
So the JGTC Supra used a few different 4 cylinder engines through its JGTC life. The first known as the 503E (2.1L) was used between 1994-1996 and had roots in the IMSA program. For 1997-1999, an engine based off the WRC corolla engine, known as the 171F (2.0L) was used. From 1999 onwards, the 171F was replaced by the 244F (still 2.0L) until the 2002 season, ultimately being replaced by the 3UZ-FE NA V8 engine when the regulations changed. Two teams used the 2JZ in the JGTCC for a brief period in 1994 (not sure on the specific dates); Team Blitz and Shift Point with neither team successful. The 2JZ was never suited to circuit racing, being heavy and Toyota already had a lightweight, reliable, race engine available.
Nice video, love the info you give and how you tell it. Good editing too. Your channel has a lot of potential for future interesting content. Keep it up!
Yes they did ! Wow. I just had that same thought pretty much. And...it was bad ass. I may be wrong but I think it was twinned also. Not sure though. But yes Mitsu made a 3000 GT
@@reginaldgrandin266 I don't think the issue was copyright so much as market reception. It's not like Pontiac is the only brand to have sold a GTO in America, there were also Ferraris (where Pontiac stole the name from in the first place). The only thing is that people wouldn't have reacted well to a Japanese GTO in the US and even without legal issues, poor market reception is reason enough to not use the name even if Mitsubishi had done the same thing Pontiac did and ripped the GTO name off to use in their home market. Also the 3000GT name wasn't limited to the US, it was the name for all markets outside of Japan.
Wonder why this has never appeared in grand turismo. Id love to rip this in gt7. They have the 400r and the one with the ge for gt500 is one of my fav gt3 cars

@@xabvwjno it’s not at all. Ford makes Mustangs, and the GT350 is a model/ trim package. Mitsubishi already had a car named the 3000GT, and Toyota named their car the 3000GT. It’s just silly
For America, a 3000gt is a Mitsubishi, but in Japan and Europe, it's the GTO. There would only be confusion in the states and if I had to guess it, the TRD 3000 gt would've been JDM only.

That TRD has hadled every Toyota racing endeavour is not true at all, because GR or Gazoo Racing has handled their F1, WEC and WRC endeavours for the last 25 years...
Absolutely agree! But in the line about endeavors, the time was meant at the moment when the supra was released, not 2024. Great comment btw, thank you very much!

I imagine a lot of people don't know that the JGTC Supra didn't use the 2JZ-GTE but a 2 liter turbo 4 cylinder engine, the 3S-GT.
@jaioxung yep, so true. Maybe because they started with the JZ anyway 😅
I imagine a lot of people do too.
this was the same engine in the celica winning WRC later when they made 2classes gt300 and gt500 the 2jz was used then
Not for power issues or anything but because lighter is better in a race car and that motor is much less than a 2 j

I 3D printed their TRD spoiler for my SC400.
The Castrol Supra that beat the GTR don't use the 2jz. They used the 3STGE
Sure! Probably a one more story to tell🙂
Cool car but only for a hardcore supra fans
Not a hardcore Supra fan myself but it's interesting to know about this car. Plus, anyone who plays Gran Turismo 1 and 2 should know about this car.
Didnt mitsubishi make a 3000gt?
Yup. Same concept too. The only difference was the Mitsubishi 3000GT’s were AWD. Supra’s are RWD

Yes. However, the Mitsubishi 3000GT was only a name plate in the USA, due to the original name they used,”GTO,” was already copyrighted by Pontiac.
Maybe someday we will see a raliart 3000gt vr4 supra 😂
