I made a text box. It displays text.

2 months of game development later and I have a player that walks around on a grid, and a text box that displays text when certain things happen. I'm well aware that wall hit sound is horrible. It's just a temp to make sure it was working. The giant black rectangle is where the rest of the UI will go.
