  • Silverstone......the power circuit!
With my engine running really poor and now knowing that its only kicking out 220bhp, I was pretty worried about being straight driven past.
But quali worked out well and qualified on pole by a freaking second!
Overall lap times were slow with the new surface put on a few month before hand for F1, and it felt pretty awful trying to adjust to the much earlier braking points and how differently you had to load the car up to make the initial turn in phase.
Poor start again, its either me, my wanky 220bhp or a mega Steve!
Unfortunately something happened to steves engine on lap 1, I thought he missed a gear but he fell back pretty rapidly. Didn't find out what was the cause and the engine sent a rod through the block whilst pootling around in the paddock area.......gutting!
Started to pull a gap, but we had some fierce winds at the track, head on down hanger straight, and the riv nuts in my FRP tailgate failed, caught the leading edge and sent it skywards!
I thought the bleeding back wheels had come off, and wasnt until I was facing backwards I saw the tailgate in the air and went "ah!.......thats my issue....50 ft up there".
I was going to pit, but decided to carry on and see what it was like. They couldn't black flag a broken part that wasn't on the car! haha.
Suffice to say, that tiny wing did quite a lot! The oversteer was ridiculous.
I lost 8 seconds in that spin, and the lead. But getting back to it and adjusting, the FL gap between tailgate and no tailgate was only 1.4 seconds! I was running about 3 tenths faster than the then leader, which wouldn't of been enough to close the 3 second gap up tbh, but his engine then decided to melt and I picked up the lead again.
I was laughing to myself at what a stupid race this was!
    But! Entertaining!

Yeah I've seen he's been struggling with it a bit but from what I've seen it seems to be making alright power. Was a forged supercharged engine before wasn't it? So maybe it's slightly lower compression...

I see flags in my peripheral, they sort of just pop out, I don't look directly at them.
Sometimes I notice a flag way in the distance and surprise myself that I took that info in.
One example is in 2016 metro cup race at brands. I span under "double yellows" coming into paddock as fluid was down.
I spotted a single yellow flag as I came out of clearways start of the straight, and being tucked up behind the guy infront I saw the yellow being brought in through his back widow and visually through the car it's not very crisp with him and evrything else I'm concentrating on.
Anyway, up to the clerks office after, I have my story, he didn't believe me and we watched the cctv. 7 seconds before I get to the corner the double yellows were pulled in for singles (why not orange and yellow I don't know). Now I said, see, pulled in. Granted my view didn't allow me to see the other flag, but surely benefit of the doubt would be nice thay I wasn't just being a prick.
      Nope....
Clerk doesn't like being proved wrong infront of the other officials and 3 other waiting drivers..... So I got points anyway. 😂
