- Race 2 at cadwell always throws up something exciting, and again 2019 was not spared!
Overtaking is notoriously difficult at cadwell and it takes some strong moves, contact is almost always a certainty if any form of defence is mounted against a move. It does make for great racing and posturing! I made a strong 3 and a half moves haha, having given one back to Steve after I felt I gained an unfair advantage when we both went off circuit fighting.
But we both lost out to the sheer brute force of the 205gti, we had literally no answer in a straight line to that. But we did get bunched up behind him once he took the lead, leading to some great close dog fighting.
I didn't beat Steve once off the line this weekend, hes annoyingly good at them. And this race had 2 starts, 3 overtakes, knocks and nudges.
You'll just have to watch it!

I learned to drive round Cadwell in the 80's when my dad used to run the practice days. Love seeing these races.

Got to love a bit of Cadwell. It does make you work for you overtakes for sure. Love the outside move at Park, good racing by Steve not to biff you onto the grass, and good racing by you not to have a crash on the grass at Hall bends! Good thing it was dry!!

@@BenR22 I've been fighting the same guy for the championship for about the last five years, and we are still really good mates. I'll not lie, there have been moments, when I hit him off at Silverstone a couple of years ago, and when he had me off at Castle Combe last year when I was on for the double, but both realise we're doing it for fun. If it's not what's the point.

No, we get it. A live snatch as its called here is considered a pretty risky thing, and to their credit, course clerks do mitigate risk wherever possible. Circuit size and proximity to Marshall is a big factor too. Cadwell is too small, cars would be only tens of feet away, and we've all seen drivers loose it at the most unexpected times by not paying attention.

Awesome stuff as always, shows how Cadwell is essentially a race track modelled after a village lane. Also nice to see something other than a Honda out there winning now, I genuinely thought Honda's would kill Class A, even though I'm sure a well sorted Ford, Vauxhall, Toyota, VW, Renault or even something odd like a Proton Satria GTi could keep up there with the right set up.
Yea, it's not that Hondas are fast, it's that they're cheap to make fast. Anything else requires a fully built race engine to hit 250bhp. You can get that from scrapyard Hondas and keep rolling along.
@@BenR22 I'd have thought the same with Vauxhalls and Fords but I guess not, It's a good time to get Honda bits as well as so many are winding up in Bangers sadly.

soo.. your Car isn't the fastest in the straights (atleast it looks like it..compared to that Peugeot) but in the Corners.. damn, do you have a Pilot licence ? also, yesterday was actually the first day that i did hear of that Track, love that track allready and looks very fun to drive.
Thanks man, no I run a stock k24 with all oem parts so nothing fancy. My engine isn't slow but it's not the fastest, but the chassis certainly is the best out there. I've put the most work into it.

Steve is always good. It was a pincer move but the door opened for a fraction as I saw his wheels steer left, probably to try get the cut back on the Peugeot. So I dived in 😂

No, it was just the racing line on power you run out wide, and I thought he was further back than he was. Steve's a mate so I don't intend on pushing him out of the way, but things get intense out there.

BTW the Hans device wont work in the event of a heavy front end smash. Your harnesses are too loose, you can see the Hans rotating forward under the harness.
It was/is the best I can do with that off the shelf cage. Using the original harnesses bar is even worse so I had to wrap the harnesses way back on the rear cross. But got a new cage now where the bar is right behind the seat so hopefully it'll be less of an issue. Also most likely to move to a Simpson hybrid.
@@BenR22 Simpson hybrids dont work at all in cars like Caterhams and Lotus elise, where the shoulder harness mounts are high. In order for a Simpson to work the harnesses have to be mounted on the floor in a saloon car, pulling the device down into the shoulder.

Ah well, being polite and nice in the long run isn't a bad thing. Loose a few advantages, but I'm not scrupulous. If I didn't gain a position through skill alone, I don't feel like it wasn't earnt.

Why are 205s so slow in corners compared to hondas? They are lighter and they seem to have adequately fat tires. Afterall, 205s are kinda known for good handling in stock form, so what's the catch?
I've only driven a stock 205 GTi so I'm no expert, but from my experience they're notoriously prone to lift-off oversteer, especially through the fast corners. So for example, at the end of the main straight, Ben has to lift slightly but has such a planted car that there's no worry of the back end coming round on him. Where-as in the 205 you have to be incredible careful when lifting through a turn, meaning that the Pug drivers are probably being a tad more cautious through the fast bends. Also the Honda's are running a bit more downforce than the 205's as well, which will definitely help through the faster curves.
Of course I could be totally wrong but I hope I've helped!
I have the same question...The honda does look properly set up and driven well by Ben, but if the tyre sizing is the same I don't see how the 205 can be that much slower under braking and in the bends.They are prone to lift off oversteer but from what I understand thats partly why they're so effective as it helps rotate the car, then back on the gas and front tyres/diff will pull you straight. In race trim the 205 is probably around the 800kg mark which is hard to beat. Would be interesting to see the full spec list for either of these cars and hear some other opinions.
Theyre too narrow and youll always be struggling for out right grip mid corner! 160 odd cm wide compared to most things which are 180 plus
The Hondas have a longer wheel base, so more stable on the faster corners.

306gti I think. 260 and change in an sub 850kg car. It shifts!...... But wasn't very reliable.

Take that KTuned Shifter out, march over to the nearest bin, chuck it in and go buy a Hybrid (brand) from the US. I have had the same shitty Ktuned problems. So after a while I decided to chase some more pace and I now have a Holinger Sequential with Air Shifts. So much faster with absolutely no missed shifts.
Nice setup! And yea the ktuned is going in the bin, got a new shifter lined up already.
Looking at a dog gear kit, I can't stretch to a full sequential setup at all.

How do you get into something like this?
Decide you want to do it, then commit. It is complex, costly, but at the same time, simple. Just get moving if you actually want to do it, it's not hard.
Ben Rushworth I understand that but I mean more from an actual starting point, like is there are series you think are good for beginners or something.
@@chingaling30 yes, there are plenty, it almost doesn't matter where you start initially. Set your budget first, without that you won't know what sort of car you can afford to buy/build and what sort of running costs you can deal with. Some starter series are incredibly competitive and some less so. It depends if you want to do tin tops, sports cars or single seaters. Far too much info for me to condence down into a single recommendation.
