750mc Hot Hatch 2019 Silverstone Race 2. Nobody is about, but I still almost lose!

- Apologies for the slightly boring race....yup...boring, in terms of racing action.
All by myself, everyone in my class had blow up their engines over the weekend and there was just Gary and I left.
So, to fill the race I prompted some questions off Instagram for me to answer during the vlog, worked out ok, made me think. Vlogging whilst racing is pretty therapeutic, if you're able to zone out race wise, you get quite deep in thought. And that means some pretty honest answers, and diplomacy is out the window. Thats an observation rather than a prologue to me being incredibly un PC in this vlog!
But, whilst I was racing around, trying to rememeber questions that I had supposedly memorised before the race, they started throwing time penalties at me!
Go slow, go fast, I had no idea where to go or where I was incurring these penalties..........I was all by myself!
I rolled into parc ferme after taking the chequered flag, about to high five people because I couldn't see 2nd place in my mirrors, and someone pipped up "boy, that was close, only just won that". EH!? 2nd place virtually isn't even in pit lane yet! Oh how we laughed.
Never have I won by such a huge tiny margin!
Luck was on my side because if I had coasted just that one corner more, I'd of been second.
I hope I babbled on about enough crap to keep this slightly dull race worth the watch. But like someone said, you just couldn't write what happens in my races haha!
Somebody sponsor this guy, he’s got the full racing package. Speed, talent (nice save on the bend), a nice guy to other drivers and track staff, media savvy. I’m not sure you’d fit with the Radical bunch - too many maniacs in there for my liking (“Car in the gravel and yellows? Boot it! Oh, thats why he’s in the gravel. Do you come here often, nice to meet you.”). I could see you adding value to something historic by adding wins to its history, for someone who doesnt have the reflexes to do it themselves any more.

I can appreciate the ultra competitive nature of radicals, being spec and all. But I really want the driver challenge and precision needed. Throwing a tin top around at club level is great, but I just need something "more". And radicals are actually cheaper than a national tintop series....like way cheaper, and not shit.

I'm still pretty certain they were throwing those track limits penalties at you cos there was fuck all else going on. But what do you expect when most tracks now are defined by 2 white lines on a car park surface.

Another awesome video Ben. Where were you given the penalties for? I couldn't see anything wrong with you're lines, unless you hitting the kerbs was being frowned upon. Shame but... A win is a win.

where did you get the time penalties from? I'm racing there next weekend and it looks f**ing harsh on track limits. Was it the link corner where you can run wide for the straight?

It’s a shame your overall championship is affected by lack of entries really, I can understand why they do it but at the same time it’s not your fault?
And I really don’t see where the track limits were coming from. I went onto the green a couple of times onto start/finish straight & didn’t even get a warning!

Would your clubs rules allow a k20 metro in?
Nope, has to be an engine from the original manufacturer. So you could stuff a rover v8 in if you wanted. And technically it could be the mustang engine base. Lol.....
@@BenR22 shame as the 160vvc wont cut it against the k20, dont think a 1.8T out the rover 75 would do either.
A v8's weight would ruin the weight advantage too haha
@@thepredators1111 doesn't work like that. Turbos aren't allowed firstly. But the cars are bhp/ton limited. So yea, a k20 can make 260 bhp but has to weigh a ton. A modest metro will come in 820kg end of race and you'll only have to make 215bhp, which a vvc can do easily and reliably. Lighter car, easier on brakes and tyres, smaller frontal area etc.
@@BenR22 but after watching your videos theres not much chance of keeping up in a vvc lol, what engines do the 205's run?
I suppose im basing that on my standard 160 motor, an extra 55hp woyld make a hell of a difference.. i assume your all on slicks?
