  • Being ranked as the 15th most dangerous city in the world, Durban had us pretty nervous going into this trip. But by the end of our 2 week vacation, we were in love with this country. South Africa has so much natural beauty that is so unique and vastly different from America. Durban is unlike any place we have ever traveled to. It’s cheap, has friendly locals, and has amazing views from everywhere we visited.
    We can’t wait to go back some day!

    Hey family, thanks for visiting my country. Just remember, this crime statistics are biased against Africa. We have a lot of AAs moving to South Africa, especially the JHB area

    • @SavagesAdventures
      @SavagesAdventures  4 месяца назад +12

      Oh yes, crime statistics are never a real representation of a place. It’s always a few bad areas in the city that give the whole city a bad reputation. We have similar things back in the states. And then media loves to focus just on the negatives of a place.

    • @molefejappie3284

      True if the President of S.A. was whites . They were not going to say Durban has a lot of crime.
      The problem is the ratio per population. In SA we are only 62milion. But in USA a person can kill many school kids but their crime will remain way down.
      I am a South African of 59 years of age and since I was born here I never had crime commited to me.
      There are other whites and blacks who had the same experience as me but they are laying queit and not telling that they never had crime commited to them.
      So other people are trying to take our country down but fortunately African Americans are coming to live and visit in S.A in numbers. Maybe they enjoy the place because of its similarities with USA. Our culture an their struggle for freedom.
      They say crime in S.A. is nothing compared to California alone.
      They say Gun violence is prominent is USA. So compared per population of 350 milion in America versus our 62milion, their rate crime high.
      I am happy that you enjoyed your time in the sunny South Africa. And please come back again.

      Yes Cape town can be a little ruff I am from Gauteng. I flew once to cape and I was told to be careful. Where blacks stay its neglected by police and the rich surbubs can hire their own security because they have money. Apartheid is alive in cape town. The life of a poor person is not taken seriously.

    I strongly disagree with the negative comments about the monkeys. We should be grateful to coexist with wildlife and recognize that they were here first. It's important to acknowledge the impact of human activities, such as pollution and land encroachment, on their habitats. Let's work towards finding a balance between human needs and wildlife conservation.
    Regarding the video, I'm disappointed that it doesn't showcase the beauty and diversity of Durban. Umhlanga has so much to offer, and the Arch and Chris Saunders Park is not one of them. I'd love to see more positive representation of our city. Let's focus on promoting respect and appreciation for all living beings and the environment.

    I'd love to know if there was a huge difference between USA and SA? I've heard some Americans choose SA because of how similar it is to the US compared to other countries.
    Apologies for that incident. Some people are just stupid.

    • @SavagesAdventures
      @SavagesAdventures  4 месяца назад +5

      There really wasn’t too many huge differences but we did notice some. Everywhere we went, stores had the portable touch to pay devices so it made using a credit card so easy. We barely even used the cash we exchanged. We just ended up using it to tip the staff at the hotel and parking attendants. Everywhere we went had security, parking attendants in every parking lot, also all the parking was free! That’s unheard of in any major city in America. The biggest difference though was definitely the pace of life. Americans are always in a hurry, we drink energy drinks everyday, we expect service to be fast. People get pretty impatient in the states. We went to a spar in Umhlanga to restock on energy drinks and the cashier was so nice and was concerned for how tired we must be all the time lol it was a really funny interaction.

    • @Magic_Kayyy
      @Magic_Kayyy 4 месяца назад +1

      @@SavagesAdventures that's incredible to know. And you telling me that the US doesn't have cardless services in all their stores? It's practically becoming useless for us to carry cash. Whenever I have cash I just give it away.
      Yeah because of high unemployment, people try to make money in every way possible. Car guards are just people trying to make a quick buck without resorting to crime. Besides a few places, car guards are usually random people who look after your car for change.
      Durban is a relaxed place, Cape Town too. Johannesburg is a very high-paced city. Everyone from other cities like to point out how fast we Joburgers are.

    • @SavagesAdventures
      @SavagesAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      We do have tap to pay and everything it’s just not nearly as popular as we saw in Durban. Some places in America don’t even let you use a card unless it’s over a certain dollar amount because credit card companies charge businesses per transaction. Also some places in South Africa don’t even accept cash as all. Some places in America prefer cash because of the transaction charge.
      We loved having the peace of mind of parking attendants watching over the car. We always tipped a few rands. Also in the busy streets and parking lots having their help in finding spots was a blessing. In America, you are on your own. We have wasted so much time trying to find parking in big cities and then being charge outrageous prices to park.
      Joburgers!! That’s such a fun name!

    Nice Review Except
    The Umhlanga Arch may in a viewer / visitors eyes look pleasing but it is the worst building (especially for the climate of Durban).
    Even in your video, you can percieve the major winds in the garden. No the architect did not take the Pedestrian Wind Comfort into account and one generally cannot use the garden due to the wind, even on a breezy day.
    The glass building generates a heat island in a already hot climate. Again take the garden as an example. You are getting sunburnt from all directions & cannot use the garden optimally.
    And lastly just the airconditioning takes up all the (legal) allowance for the energy consumption.
    There are must better buildings / public spaces you could have reviewed.

    • @SavagesAdventures
      @SavagesAdventures  3 месяца назад +1

      No way I should be expected to have known this information and reviewed a different building lol. It’s still a unique building.
