- I traveled from Johannesburg to Durban, which is part of the KwaZulu-Natal province. I'm staying near South Beach, which is part of many beaches of this beautiful city.
Durban is the third most populous city in South Africa after Johannesburg and Cape Town and the largest city in KwaZulu-Natal. Durban forms part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, which includes neighbouring towns and has a population of about 3.44 million,[8] making the combined municipality one of the largest cities on the Indian Ocean coast of the African continent. Durban was also one of the host cities of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Durban was formerly named Port Natal due to its position as the chief seaport of South Africa, and its location on the Natal Bay of the Indian Ocean.[9] Durban is a highly ethnically diverse city, with large Zulu, White, and Indian/Asian populations.
I’m glad you didn’t pick the guy pretending to be Uber, most of those guys are west Africans, that’s what they do in west Africa they want you to pay cash too. Always get an Uber on the App.
Exactly! I've seen something similar in other countries, but they don't call themselves Uber and there is no perceived endorsement by the airports. In Rio Brazil there are signs everywhere telling you be avoid them.
Durban is very nice
I agree. I didn't much about it prior to visiting.
Good Advice regarding Uber
The golden mile Promenade was extended a few years back, that’s why it’s longer now. And if you think Durban is dusty, wait till you experience 30KM/H winds in Cape Town😅
LOL....I'm actually experiencing that now in Cape Town. Fortunately I'm in the CBD so I haven't seen the dust as much, but I could only imagine what it's like near the beaches. That wind aint no joke. I almost got blown over the first day. LOL
Most of the those Scammers are not South African, they are from Zimbabwe or Nigeria.
I had another commenter who said the same thing. One of them wanted me to report the scammers to the airport authorities, which I thought was unnecessary.
You do get some txi cab that operated before Uber, taxify was a global thing. we use to have Bunny Cabs, Eagle taxi etc.
Welcome!
Thank you! 🙏 😊
Durban promenade has deteriorated so much especially after covid. It’s a ghost town, it’s so sad to see. This used to be so busy on a daily basis even during the week. But it’s not as safe as it used to be. When Durban people go to the beach they usually go to umhlanga beach or sun coast beach or any beach in ballito.
Unfortunately I didn't get to check out Umhlanga. Based off of some the comments, I read, the beaches are much better in Durban than there. Do you agree?
@@NomadicJayye2021 I have to disagree the umhlanga beach has waaay more restaurants, bars and pubs, everything that side is newly developed and clean, there’s amazing brunch spots and even much more developed hotels with beautiful spa’s. The hotels in umhlanga have the best views and rooftop restaurants/bars and you’re even close to luxury malls that have luxury brand stores. Everything in Umhlanga is just much more classy. At the beach you have easily accessible water sports like surfing, kite surfing, jet skis etc.
You should have visited Umhlanga and Blue lagoon....
There are lots off scammers at the airport trust no one ..next time use app you were ripped off 😢
OH NO! I did use the app. I was sharing that story so that people can be on the lookout for these scammers.
African Americans need to see the scenes because they don't know how well Africans are living in Durban.
Exactly! Even I was amazed at what I saw and I consider myself well traveled.
Stayed in the wrong place mate, North/South Beach is the old city. uMhlanga up North is where everything has moved to, from corporates to hotels etc. nobody goes to the CBD anymore unless you have to.
I actually enjoyed where I stayed and visited. My only regret is that I didn't get to explore uMhlanga.
@@NomadicJayye2021 I’m glad you did. Being a tourist it is great to visit the old city with all of its history, definitely something to experience. However, next time you go, book yourself into uMhlanga and explore from uMhlanga up north. For example the rock where Shaka was killed still exists up there. The Zulu Kingdom was further North, the Drakensberg is also a lovely place.
But u being American i am disappointed why didn't you download the app, Now you gonna make south Africans look like chance takes
I'm not sure what you are saying.
You got it wrong, he did have the app. It's the taxi guy who didn't have it 😅
