"Kennedy explained why this is a particularly special song to him in an interview with Artist Direct: "It was written to everyone that I hold dear in my life-family, friends and my wife. It's a last goodbye essentially. The thing about having people you cherish in your life is there's going to come a time that you're going to have to say goodbye. I put my mindset of, 'What if I were standing by this person as they were about to take their last breath? What would I say to them?' I'd want to convey how much they meant to me while they were with me in my life. It's really special in that sense because it's very personal."

There was a young man who might as well have been my adopted son because he was like a brother to all 5 of my sons.
He played high school football with 3 of them, was best friends with another, played guitar with the oldest.
I coached him in football and my wife coached him in track and field. He was in college and had a commission as a Naval officer waiting for him.
He was killed on his motorcycle when a driver turned in front of him...
One day shortly after his funeral one of my sons sat near me and started to play this song on his guitar.
I sang along and then we just sort of stared at the floor, then he said..thanks dad and went upstairs for a while.
That was about 7 years ago...a few months ago my wife showed me a video...she had recorded us from across the room and we never knew. I cried a little and smiled alot...
Thanks to guys like Alter Bridge people like us can have moments like that.

I discovered this song a few months after my wife's passing and it hit me hard. Put me on my @$$ and it now helps, but I wish I had found this so I could sing it to her when she passed. She passed away at home, in my arms, due to Metastatic Cervical Cancer.
I have asked my wife to use this song for my funeral. Acoustic version on Alter Bridge live at Royal Albert Hall.
