Seems possible for me to do myself, I'm not a "fix it" guy but I'm considering doing this because I want to sound treat also and only have to take the seats out once. I'll just have to take my time with it.

What if I want to keep the original covers intact? Is it possible to remove them without cutting?

Unfortunately not. You do need to cut the original covers.
