Awesome video guys extremely helpful. At first sight I didn’t like the bulky looking chicane but you fellows have changed my mind. I thank you

Which foot/knee ascent systems are used there? It looks so effortless...

8:44 probably the least mentioned feature of the chicane. I think the reason why only petzl carabiner fits. I really like the chicane. I like that it works with my 2nd gen zigzag. Cheers

Do you like using it when it rains, on a wet rope?

getting ready to upgrade from the lockjack looking at the zigzag or akimbo, any thoughts?

Darren Garlough if you can get a try of both to see which you prefer. My personal preference is the zigzag plus and this is because of attachment which are purpose built by petzel

H & W Forestry Services I agree the akimbo has that fine tuning needed,(and good eyes to see).I can use several different ropes when working.Thanks.

Akimbo - midline attachable, compact, adjustable, Doubled rope and SRT compatible, smooth as butter on ascent and work positioning, costs less.

Akimbo-very touchy, requires intricate setup & dial in, doesn’t tolerate change well (wet vs dry, different rope, old vs new, etc) when dialed in on the right rope it is the best experience ever. Experienced user with other options available, good choice!
Zigzag plus-more tolerant of varied ropes and environments, very bulky. Inexperienced user or need to use it in a variety of scenarios, very solid choice!
For me it is still a rope wrench and a hitch cord. Works on almost all ropes and in any situation. Simple, adjustable, and very compact. Just some thoughts, hope this helps. Stay-Tied-In & Hang Loose!

Use this setup and you won’t look back. Zig zag is the bestcombined with the chicane. No slack, it works effortlessly.

Why not test all devices on the same rope to level the playing field?

How you guys getting on with a two rope system that HSE is requiring us all to use? I use two srt setups (ridiculous but it means I’m compliant and insured)

    • @Celric_Death

Personally using one line as SRT with a Zigzag Pro set up in a ground lowering configuration incase a rescue is needed, and a second line as DRT with a lockjack.
Although to be completely honest, most of the time depending on the tree I risk assess the job and just go up on a single line, then put a second line in when I'm in the crown.

    • @aliray1165
      @aliray1165 3 года назад

@@Celric_Death that’s exactly how I do it too. I have a “primary” line and my second is the drt which gets switched from branch to branch constantly. It get used way note than my side strop now and the side strip is mostly there to assist a two rope changeover.

@@aliray1165 Yeah sounds like we are using our systems in exactly the same way, just recently got given a unicender for free but since I'm in the UK it isn't cleared for use without the CE Mark. Although since we are on 2 line systems I'm going to be testing it out and incorporating it into my kit. Heard nice things about the unicender system.

I wrap around the tree base three times, tie a figure of eight, attatch a screwlink to the figure of eight and the climbing line, tie a backup knot and climb. Not lower able but I’m a solo recreational climber so nobody coming to the rescue anyway!!
