    • @kesorangutan6170
      @kesorangutan6170 5 лет назад +17

      Barry Allen About Florida. Yes you are right. Richer country means more cost of living. Though Florida is absurdly expensive to live. Like let's put it this way:
      In California(a wealthy state) you earn a lot and spend a lot but in Florida you earn some and spend a lot.

    • @kesorangutan6170
      @kesorangutan6170 5 лет назад +5

      Barry Allen Meh, I don't think we should be in EU but we should achieve the standards of EU and have great relations with them(tbh whole world should). Also you should not call one country "enemy" and other one "friend". International politics are way more complicated than that. In international politics there is no black and white. Literally everything is gray and everything revolves around money. Even the horrible stuff like bonesawing a journalist in your embassy or bombing yemeni schools are considered "gray" if you got the money.

    Although I think it's important to mention that right now we are going through a major crisis due to huge corruption schemes where the people are paying for secret loans taken by some dudes with power.
    I also just think that the people chosen as famous, in the end, were not more famous than Eduardo Mondlane, Luísa Diogo (first female prime minister), and maybe more emphasis on Lurdes Mutola who is the icon for sports and is a woman =)

    Ok, I am not sure if there is any dialect of Portuguese where it sounds different but please when you are reading Portuguese names don't say Jorge as if its in spanish, the portuguese pronounce it as George except the G sounds more like a J in english.

    • @GazilionPT
      @GazilionPT 5 лет назад +18

      No Portuguese dialect reads the "J" as in Spanish. "J" is always pronounced like "Zh" in Zhivago. (Not exactly like J or G in English, because in English it sounds like dg or dj.)
      Barbs also messed up the "X" in Xavier, which in this case is read like "Sh" in English.
      And his accent at the beginning of the episode was more akin to Brazilian Portuguese. (Anyway, at least is was one flavour of Portuguese...)

      He mentioned Abel Xavier, for crying out loud, who was born in Mozambique also when it was a part of Portugal...

    • @GazilionPT
      @GazilionPT 5 лет назад

      @Henrique Faustino Those dates would support exactly the reverse conclusion: Eusébio lived 33 years of his life when being Mozambican also meant being Portuguese, so, even if after independence he refused Mozambican citizenship, he still had 33 years of being both Mozambican and Portuguese!
      Abel Xavier, on the other hand, only lived 3 years when being Mozambican also meant being Portuguese, after which his family opted for Portugal.
      But anyway, that's irrelevant. In other episodes Barbs lists people that are of more remote ancestry, like grandchildren and great-grandchildren of expats that never even lived in the featured country, so it's totally unjustified to leave Eusébio out of Mozambique's episode.

    Hey Paul and team, thanks for another good episode; Mozambique is a beautiful and peace-loving country that is often neglected . However, I feel that you are slipping and that is episode is well below par for you
    You give too much emphasis on the Portuguese/English dilemma of the country which is not really a big deal in the country. You showed the Maputo-Katembe bridge under construction but it was actually inaugurated in November 2018. It is the longest suspension-bridge in all of Africa. You usually take so much time to go over trivial facts about other countries' infrastructure but completely missed this important fact. The newly opened Maputo-Katembe bridge is a huge driver of tourism and is a very big milestone in the progress of the country. You made a similar omission in the Morocco episode (which was rather flippant) by not mentioning that Morocco had recently inaugurated the high-speed railway between Tangier and Casablanca.
    Again a lot of time is spent on why Mozambique is part of the commonwealth but you completely missed the main infrastructure aspect of the country which is the EN1 highway that connects almost the entire eastern part of the country from north to south.
    Most inexplicable of all you left out the most famous person from Mozambique, Eusebio. He is easily one of the greatest footballers to ever live and he won the Ballon d'Or for his club in Portugal. Because Mozambique was not independent at the time, he took on Portuguese and led his country to great glory in the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England. Portugal thenceforth went from being a nobody on the Football stage to being a significant player. Eusebio scored four goals in one match and saved his country from humiliation against North Korea. Eusebio was called the 'Black Pearl' for his skill and agility in football. He is titan of the sport and omitting him is like omitting Maradonna from Argentina.
    I am a bit saddened because your channel has a lot of influence on travelers and is an important vehicle in spreading awareness about overlooked countries of the world. Thus there are great expectations placed on your country episodes. I understand that you try to do your best and you cannot be expected to know everything about the country but missing out on such salient details is highly remiss of you. There are other important omissions and mistakes that I would have like to mention about this episode but a RUclips comment is no place for nuance.
    You have not mentioned that Mozambique offers visa-on-arrival to all countries despite what Mozambique embassies abroad might say. Mozambique also offers visa-free tourism for all its neighbours and not just Angola.
    The government of Mozambique has taken great steps to privatize its industries and lessen the effect of its former one-party socialism. The most visible effect of that is the entrance of different airlines into its domestic and international routes. Whereas travel through LAM was a major hassle, the introduction of Ethiopian Airlines and FastJet into domestic routes has a gone a long way in easing travel within the country.
    My feelings aside, you have done the country of Mozambique a great service through this episode because a million people who didn't know much about the country will be more knowledgeable it. It is shocking how little information is available online about Mozambique compared to other countries and this episode will go a long way in addressing that. For that I bless your heart and wish you a Merry Christmas. May Manwe keep you safe under the One.

      I thought Myanmar was not the internationally recognized name as is was named under a military government.
      Burma is the politically recognized name.

    I am Brazilian, married to a Mozambican with Portuguese, Dutch, Masena and Manyunwuè heritage from Tete and I love the country. I arrived here in 2004 with 26 years old, worked in the Moatize coal mine pre-feasibility and feasibility studies from 2004 to 2006 and then in all other provinces except Quelimane as an exploration geologist. I lived here from 2004 to 2011 before leaving to France, Zambia and Brazil and returned in 2018 to live in Tete with the goal to set up my roots here. I love Africa and specially Mozambique.

    My father's family is from Mozambique and I think you did a very good job. There are a few mistakes here and there, but for a 13 minute video I think you show a lot of the country and the overall quality is very good. However the lusophone/anglophone divide is not a big deal, mozambicans are one of the friendliest peoples you will ever meet. I would say it is culturally lusophone but considering the location makes sense to be a bit more anglophone economically
