I love your joke about the first 20 days in January. I laughed out loud because I'm a beginner and automatically tuned to seriousness in watching water color tutorials.
OMG! I love his humour! And he delivers it so well. Good comedic timing and acting. I just found Paul this week and I think he’s going to change my life! 💙💙 Excellent teaching, speaking, gosh everything. Sorry for commenting all this on you!! 😊
I continue to be impressed and heartened by how approachable your techniques are, how repeatable your instructions/demos are. It's a gift you give us with each of the short sessions you publish. Thank you for de-mystifying some of the harder parts of watercolour painting.
You are so welcome Bonnie! - skies and seas my two favourite things to paint ... oh, and trees, .... and reflections .. and landscapes ... and flowers.... I'll stop now.
Hi Paul. I worked on these exercises today and I want to thank you for all your wonderful teaching. You are a natural! I am still learning, but I was generally pleased with the results and it was fun to follow along. Practice, practice, practice is my new mantra! Cheers from Canada!
Hello Paul, I’m french and maybe an artist, but the most important is that I you make me laugh everyday and I improve my english and my paintings in same Time… I will receive your book next week… I’m impatient.
Paul, as a professor myself (and having had many, many teachers on my way there) I have ALWAYS found that the finest teachers employ a good sense of humor with the teaching. It never fails to relax the student and opens up so much for them. I thought I might have to use my inhaler after the 20 days of January thing; for 1/2 second I was actually trying to observe! Then bang! Great comedy. Thanks, as always. J
Thant's a great comment, thanks J - I think it goes way back to my old history teacher, who everyone loved. He would dress up and suddenly apear behind the desk in things like a Roman helmet and then follow on in an Italian accent! Learned lots and still love history ... probably down to him!
Watching you painting actually discourages me!Your paintings are so beautiful and you make them seem so easy but that’s your talent. I don’t think I can do even half as well.
These are great mini-tutorials on painting skies; really enjoyed doing them. Appreciated seeing your paintings at the end using the different skies and techniques from the tutorials. Thanks Paul!
Thank you Paul, I have been watching a lot of watercolor tutorials these days, your videos are my favorite!!! They are so helpful! Although they look much easier than when I actually tried, my paintings did improved a lot through following your guidance. Thank you so much for being an awesome teacher!
Thanks for these tutorials! I wish to start painting more landscapes and seascapes. I cannot attend your lessons because I don't live in the UK but these tutorials will be my guide. Very well explained!
Completely agree with those who commented on Paul's droll humor! I love the well paced and clear explanations throughout (many painting tutorials have no talking at all). These lessons are super!
I don't imagine you'll re-visit this video's comments, after 4 years Paul, but, just in case, I'd like to say how much I recognise your effortless-seeming skill and judgement and how affecting your example paintings of the skies at the end are. I refer to other painters as sources of knowledge, but when it comes to the kind of watercolour painting that drives to to persevere and hope that someday ... well, you're the man!
This tutorial is very helpful, I appreciate your techniques and way of teaching which is helping me a lot. I have a request can you give some tips on how to draw snow covered field or lake.
Wow, wow, wow! I’ve been wasting my time. Should’ve been watching you from day 1! Seeing your paintings, and how easy you make it look, really inspires me! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hello Mr. Clark. I just found your RUclips channel. I have begun painting as therapy for PTSD. Psychotherapy and medication has not been successful for me, but painting eases my mind and heart. Thank you so much for your helpful instruction and calming demeanour. I don’t know you, but am grateful for you nonetheless! ❤️🇨🇦
Love the humour with skies in Britain! I have been at that point of frustration lately painting skies, and was getting bored with my lack of va va voom in my painting skies. Thank you this is wonderful and I am giving these a go!
Ha ha, the first 20 days of English skies. This was a SPECTACULAR video and I look forward to getting to it. Your paintings at the end are breathtaking. I had a little personal applaud. Thank you so much.
Just found your channel. When you showed the days in England, I just about died laughing. I’m in the northwest US and same here. I really enjoy your teaching methods, your beautiful paintings and your lightening fast jokes. Glad I found your channel.
You’ve just made me feel so much better ! As a beginner with watercolour and being used to acrylics I literally had no idea of how to paint sky and clouds . Thank you so much 🎉
Good morning from Portland, Oregon USA. I started painting my daily sky in August after watching this video & I’m having so much fun. Now I’m rewatching to get refreshed on your techniques so I can improve my blending skills as I continue through the months.
Favorite tutorials ever! Thank you Paul for being so inspiring. Great Teacher with perfect encouraging Teacher Voice. Your art works are soooo beautiful. Well, I need to practice now! I am absolute beginner. Gratitude for your tips and inspiration.
Your mini tutorials are very encouraging and motivating ....Day by day ,trying these techniques and learning new ones are very precious for me as a beginner...thank you again.
I was in UK for 3 weeks in April 2019 and the skies then were almost the same as your January skies :). Loved visiting your country and hope to visit again. Anyway thank you for your great videos. Learning lots from your generous teaching.
I'm in the U.S. but have a friend in Glastonbury who climbs the tor almost every day and takes incredible photos. I had told her I was going to do a watercolor from one of her pictures but I wasn't having any luck. But now... oh boy, she's going to be amazed. Paul Clark is fantastic, as an artist, a teacher and humorist. Thanks!
I had been struggling to get realistic clouds but having watched this video I feel that I now am able to tackle these with confidence, the small practice pieces that I have done now would pass for actual clouds & sky. Many thanks
I think you’re absolutely amazing! I took up painting when I retired and love to watch your work. So inspiring, that’s all I do in the evening, just watch your fabulous videos!! Soooo inspiring. Thank you very much for taking the time to create these videos. Very much appreciated. Pat Dixon from the East Midlands
I’m watching in later July near the east coast of the US. I also love your paintings of winter! I love your skies and I appreciate your sharing of your art!
Like others, I loved the humor in the first 20 days of January! So funny and so nice to have a laugh! Thanks very much for your videos. Greatly appreciated!
Your watercolour tips are so helpful! I'm so glad I found your channel. Had the pleasure to visit the English countryside in the past few years and you guys have the most amazing views ever.
I’m so glad found your channel! Just changed from cellulose paper to real Arches 100% cotton. Found hard to learn new paper’s properties & last 4 skies turned into (even gradient) of two glaze so will try again & looking at sky each day great idea for practice!
Definitely the best teaching video I have seen in how to do watercolour skies. You've explained everything in good detail step by step. Brushes to use, wetting the paper, percentage of paint pigment, when to dry. Easy to follow. Keep up the good work. More videos please!
love Paul as he doesn't faff about but gets right down to the point! So many artists haven't figured out what theyre going to say and witter on.....(most common with Americans!)
😂 Seriously the first 20 days… ohh gosh!! 💕 But I might actually try it this next year (2023) since I am in Oxford, Mississippi, USA, where it might have different results. Gorgeous skies, with different colors, techniques, & tips. I really need to be bold enough with the yellow ocher & purple skies. Thanks for sharing this wonderful fun video with your delightful humor.
Wonderful skies. Thanks for giving all the specifics of colors and how they separate if mixed, aliz & cobalt. Lovely! I think the gray skies of your country may give you gravitas. Think about Californians here in the U.S. No gravitas, just craziness. Too many sunny days, I think. ;) Of course, I'm from the Great Lakes region in the U.S. where we have lots of gray days, and lived near the ocean in New England. Hence, all are more sensible than those Californians. Still, they have plenty of beautiful blues there. No envy, of course.
This popped up today, how did I miss this one! Wow love the last sky with the purple in oh my supper moody. Lol had a good laugh at the beginning with the grey sky’s this is us in June, lol. Thanks for the laugh yet again Paul, such a fun informative watch yet again. 👩🎨

I can't thank you enough for this video. I have lost count of the number of papers I wasted trying to paint the sky.
Delighted to help!
