  • Australia's "Invasion Day": Why are Indigenous Australians Protesting? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Australia Day is celebrated on the 26th of January. It marks the day the first British fleet docked in Sydney Harbour and raised the Union Jack. But for indigenous Australians, the day is known as "Invasion Day". It marks the beginning of European colonisation. Indigenous Australians want the date of Australia Day changed, or the holiday to be abolished completely. Will Australian politicians listen to the Indigenous minority? Palki Sharma tells you.

India was a non-violent empire during the Indian Prince known as the "Buddha" who colonized the Orient, created the Indo Pacific, hence the Indian Ocean. NO it is not the same thing. Creation/God is a loving and "intelligent" energy. Life has to move forward, humans have to evolve into this energy. India's energy was already there but India did not understand the thinking of the west which is based on resources $$$ and the British came in as "false" friends and India "Set the Sun". Europeans, Africans, Orientals are not India's friends or enemy, for ALL economics comes first. Asia is Egypt, Turks, Arabs, Israel, Persia, India. Sadly the Kings of Asia brought in African slavery, later the Portuguese brought in slavery into South India, same as in America, South America, etc. and the sins of slavery has hurt all civilizations. Radical faiths within Islam has destroyed Central Asia. Instead of praying 4 times a day, pray once and study economic, mathematics, etc. That is why the west was able to bomb Syria, Iraq, etc. also it was Obama, a tool used by the west. When India was more powerful, India had the wisdom to understand that a having good economic relations with a eternity neighbors is a win win then fighting over a inch on the borders. Today China's leadership is more aggressive, hopefully they will gain the wisdom to understand that having two great civilization like Russia and India is a win win economically. But the egos of humans always gets in the way. It is like Buddha said "be in the present" that means spiritually, economically, etc. India has very busy neighbors so BEWARE, ALERT. The original faith of India was scientific, mathematics, that will be the future of India, inspirations, forward thinking because Creation/God wants to create beauty, greatness from within humans to move his creation forward. Radical, fear based superstitions, dogma faiths that surpress women instead of educating them are not aligned with Creation/God because life does not move, nor does it give positive results. China, Russia have the death penalty for anyone dealing in drugs, India needs to do the same because this is the new evil weapon of war. America/Taliban were running a drug cartel through Afghanistan, Paksitan, etc. Today the Italian Mafia(Vatican included) has teamed up with the Nigerian Mafia to sell drugs and prostitution to Africa and the world!!!

Yes acknowledgement is the key. Acknowledge that genocide committed in name of British Empire was wrong. That is first step towards atonement.
Yes today's Australia is proud rich and diverse. Today Australians have done the right thing and should not be held responsible for deeds of the past.
Also I hate victim mentality 2-3 generations of hard honest work is enough to change one's fortunes if opportunity exists.
The natives should not take handouts but should work hard with fellow Australians in 21st century to make it an example of diversity and brotherhood.

Even though the majority voted no for the Voice referendum, it didn't mean hate towards the indigenous. It was about growing our nation as one. We are not the racist people. Now tell me in all that time (60,000 years) what did The Australian Aborigine achieve?????????? Australian has plenty of Iron, coal, wood etc and in those years could not make iron nor build a structure of any description, A piece of bark leant against a tree was home and shelter. Did not have vegetable gardens or crops of any description, nor did they have a written language! Plus all the different tribe were at war with each other, Infant mortality and cannibalism was in vogue with most tribes.
I was told all this when I was about 12 years of age by an uneducated hard working man (dispossessed from Europe) before WW2 started) and that was not yesterday, but in the early 1960's.
Nah! some bloke (been proven not to be Aboriginal at all) wrote a book some years ago claiming they did, cultivate crops built houses and farmed, but he has been rebuked as a fairy tale teller.
The Aboriginal only learnt to write and read at public schools if they attended, thy can thank the English that was taught at schools that they attended. Until then could not even develop a written language, no there is no written word at all. Please thank the white man for that.
I am not showing disrespect, but just learned truths.

This is untrue, the Fist Fleet arrived on 18th January 1788, NOT 26th. Most Aboriginals died from the introduction of diseases such as measles, chickenpox the common cold as they had no immunity to anything.
Australia was under British rule until 26th January 1949. On this day Australia gained their independence from Britain, nothing to do with Captain Cook or the Fist Fleet which by the way arrived on 18th January 1788. It was NEVER an Invasion, there were no warships or army, just some British Soldiers, who beat and punished the convicts, who actually built many of the amenities and beautiful buildings, which we are so proud of.
they arrived in hostile country with absolutely no development of any kind and still living in the Stoneage.
Most of today’s aboriginals are also descendants of the British people. They have ELEVEN days and weeks to celebrate their ceremonies, we are sure, entitled to Just ONE. REMEMBER Australia Day is about 26th January 1949, NOT 1788. Stop teaching lies in our schools and universities. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺♥️♥️♥️

Australia is a wonderful country with amazing people and we don’t want this divisive agenda anymore. We can’t rewrite history but we can change the future for our most vulnerable citizens. The Aboriginal people receive billions every year from Aussie tax payers. We have discovered of late that most of the money never gets to where it’s needed. I think this year you will see that change and better results will emerge. Education is the key, creating businesses on indigenous lands so there’s less reliance on the State. Family violence is a big problem along with drugs and alcohol and this importantly needs to be addressed so children feel safe in their own homes. We can make the future better and brighter. ❤

They get very offended when their true history of extermination is mentioned.. Just this weekend I was debating with a group of Western Europeans and they complain about how the "their countries are being invaded by migrants" as if they are the indigenous peoples of those lands..they dumped the owners of these lands in reservations in poverty and squalor whilst they enjoy the fat of the land.. they have their heads buried deep in the sand.. This counter invasion now.. are people reclaiming back part of their lands back.. Its people going to the West to share in their wealth and resources That the west has been raping and plundering for centuries.. When I am asked why i am in Europe as an African.. Cut the crap. British Empire is well known for genocide and oppression of natives all around the world Every country British went was too loot and plunder. The London museum proudly displays the loot by theft and savagery.
Australia own official records state at least 40 men, women and children were killed on 26th Jan, but other historians suggest hundreds of Aboriginal people died that day.
The research project, currently in its eighth year and led by University of Newcastle historian Emeritus Professor Lyndall Ryan, now estimates more than 10,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lives were lost in more than 400 massacres, up from a previous estimate of 8,400 in 302 massacres.
Ofcourse today's Britishers are not responsible for crimes of the past but do acknowledge the crimes that were committed.
And by the way the numbers in India are 160 millions via murder, wars, or artificial famine To give you better perspective that is 27 times of Jews murdered by Nazis.
So get down of your high moral ground because no one in the world had more innocent blood on their hands than British.

Historical monuments should serve as a reminder for us not to repeat the injustices of the past. It is a little ironic though that millions of people from previously colonised countries are now trying to get into the countries that colonised them. Why is that? Take for example my home country of Zimbabwe. Government stooges can blame the West all they want for their demise, but when they got independence they had chance to really move forward, but they haven clung onto power at all costs and have chased far too many well qualified professional Zimbabweans (black and white) from all walks of life, out of Zimbabwe - and to countries, like Britain, America and Australia, who in this modern era, despite the past, welcome them into their countries, for the expertise in their various professions they have to offer.

Captain cook first land in Australia 29th April 1770. First fleet arrived 18th of january 1788. Australia day is actual is for the day the Australian citizenship act. meaning we were no longer british subjects and had Australian passports. The invasion day movement has grown from a small protesting over land rights for money and control of that money gained from mining and farming activities. Read up on why a aboriginal flag was made early 1970's the copy right ownership and then recently the clothing rights royalty money mess. Than forced the government to step in and buy the flag and pay out and compensate the T shirt company that had clothing rights over the flag. Costing the Australian taxpayer 24 million dollars. Aboriginals make up about 1 million people in the 27 million population of Australia and of that there some estimates that up to 400 thousand maybe falsely claiming aboriginal ancestry to benefit from the two tier welfare system that provides a higher rate of welfare for aboriginal people. Aboriginals also have their own communities land councils and a ministers in parliament a state and federal level. The Australian government spends twice as much per aboriginal person than the rest of its citizens. Over 20 thousand more person. The budget giving out for the various aboriginal land management groups is 40 billion per year on top of that these land groups receive hundreds of millions from private company's land owners and large corporates in rights to use land and mining royalties. To cut this short there is a lot this but mostly about claims for a treaty for reparations and more control and will not help the average to poorest aboriginal in our communities but a wealth and power grab by the already rich and elite class of aboriginal. There are similar percentage of people from Indian decent as there are aboriginal in Australia. It is thought through DNA that aboriginals are descendants from Tamils who crossed the land bridge when Australia was connected to Asia. Always a lot more to a story than one side and as usual money power and a greed are the drivers hiding behind curtain of human rights or past injustice. I ask you why are these protests about treaty and incarceration rates and never mention the abuse suffered today by the poorest and most vulnerable aboriginals the woman and children. Look those figures up and who is inflicting this abuse and decide if it the was arrival of the colony over two century's ago.

Well I'm a local Aussie and i can understand why the aboriginal community call Australia day invasion day ,people should take note if by chance we were invaded by a foreign country today we all would be calling it invasion day our selves so take a step back and think about it .its a big issue and its going to take a lot of time but as a country we should be able to agree on this fact .im no brain surgeon but i do think we have to come up with a reasonable idea for all Australians no matter where we originated from .i think deep down the aboriginal community would just like a fair and reasonable opportunity to make there lives and culture to be excepted by all Australians and for the British government to apologise for there role in the invasion in the first place .along with the religious organisations that also effected aboriginal culture across the country.

Additionally, most Indigenous died of smallpox, influenza, and measles. This channel is very misinformed.

On many occasions, the soldiers were used to separate different tribes. On at least one occasion, 45 aboriginal people were murdered by other Aboriginals, which included women and children. The aboriginal people were nomadic tribes and competed for food and shelter. Yesterday's protesters had aboriginal invasion day, free Palestine, just stop oil, climate protesters, and neo natzi supremersy, the destruction of public spaces is not accepted, if you have ever been to Australia, you would notice just how clean public spaces are 😊,
