  • What would happen if a Christian apologist (and his son) visited a Hindu Temple? You're about to find out. I had a wonderful tour with my new Hindu friend at the Temple near where I live in southern Orange County. After a brief tour, I sat down with Suresh (my Hindu friend) and was able to ask him some questions about his beliefs, parenting, his experiences in America, impressions of Jesus and more. Let us know what you think! And do you want more videos like this? What would you do differently if you were me?

I am a 45-year-old Christian man from Tamil Nadu, India. The majority of my friends are Hindu. They invite me to their festivals but have never told me to convert to Hinduism. You don’t need to become Hindu to go to a temple or celebrate a festival. That’s the biggest difference between Hinduism and other religions-they don’t focus on converting people. They respect other religions.

By the way, you do realize that animals have souls also for them to be alive. So what happens to them on judgment day. How are they judged & is there a separate 'heaven/hell' for them? That Hindu uncle is a practicing Hindu, but not a scholarly Hindu.
    1) Muruga/Kartikeya is younger brother of Ganesha [ShivaMahaPurana, GitaPress publication, Kumara Khanda, page no. 324, shloka 23, even before Kumara was born, Devi gave birth to Ganesha. Please check]
    2) Male cow or Bull is a symbol of dharma. Divine bull Nandi is vehicle of Lord Shiva.
    3) There is indeed superior and inferior God in each sect of Hinduism. In Vaishnavism Vishnu and his avatars like Krishna, Rama et al are superior. Vishnu is infinite. All other Gods are subservient to him and are NOT infinite like him. They are like archangels and angels of Abrahmic faith.
    4) When the white guy asks about Hindu books he meant Hindu scriptures. There is no single book to know all about Hinduism. There can only be a library of Hindu scriptures. 4 Vedas with at least 10 valid recentions, 6 Vedangas, 6 Vedic darshanas having at least 20 subsects, each with their own interpretation of these 6 darshanas; Valmiki Ramayana and Vyasa Mahabharata are considered authentic itihasas; 18 puranas compiling almost all practices of Himduism; a 100 agamas that dictate technical implementation of ceremonies and a plethora of shlokas, songs and divine compositions of gurus and great devotees. They all define different sects of Hinduism. A good place to start is Gita.
    5) There is conversion in some sects of Hinduism. But a born Hindu is an unquestionably entitled Hindu. He may be ignorant of Hindu teachings, but sees no qualms in posing his personal beliefs and experiences as "Hinduism".
    6) Sorry we don't have animal gods and plant Gods. In Ramayana all the demigods incarnate on earth as vanaras (monkeys) to serve Lord Rama. So Hanuman who is incarnation of a very powerful demigod called Praana is worshipped in monkey form. Tulasi plant is a residing place of Godess Tulasi. Cow is envisaged as housing every demigod in her different body parts. And so cows are treated as divine. Because of Gods' presence in some plants and animals they are worshipped. Not the other way around.
    7) There is creation, sustenance and destruction in Hinduism. It's called Srishthi Sthiti Laya. But this cycle has no beginning and no end. Now we are in Sthiti phase of current cycle of Srishthi-Sthiti-Laya(Pralaya). There was another cycle like this earlier. After laya of present cycle there will be another cycle starting with srishthi. So when these cycles began? No! There was no beginning. It's anaadi. It's simply there. When will these cycles end? No they won't end.

      Can you explain please.

    • @ussspirit4812
      @ussspirit4812 Месяц назад

@@johnnyblaze1836 since you asked: There is a perspective on religions: That they have 2 functions, to save (for most) and sanctify (for some). Christianity, esp. the protestant denominations try to serve the first. The Catholic and Orthodox mystics were the closest who came to fulfilling the second. Amongst them, Meister Eckhart is a great example.
The primary aim of the Hindu religions (to call Hinduism a religion itself is a travesty because it has so many religions within it. It's like lumping Judaism, Christianity and Islam into one religion called Abrahamism) is to sanctify, and salvation comes as an afterthought. In fact, there is no indian word that is truly analogous to the word religion. The closest they use is the word, pantha or path, and not dharma as many wrongly assume. As the Sufi mystic, Rabia of Basra put it: "if I worship to avoid hell, send me there. If I worship to gain heaven, lock me out of it. But if I seek only You, dont deny me"
Indian Dharma and the many paths within it are about finding and experiencing the Real/Divine in life. In this sense, the scientific temperament comes close to their perspective. No wonder, physicists like Sagan or Oppenheimer find inspiration there.
The idea is to answer the fundamental questions.. What is consciousness and what is real? They achieve this through inward exploration via a state of elevated consciousness that is very different from the normal states. They created a very systematized methodology to achieve this.... For ex. Yoga, Tantra, Sankhya, Vedanta etc etc. there is simply no analogue to it in the Christian traditions, which limitedly and primarily operate in this field through what the Hindus would call bhakti yoga. But other forms like jnana or dhyana are hardly understood, let alone tantra or vedanta.
Again, it's only modern science ( neuropsychology) that has attempted and somewhat understood this effort of the Hindu traditions... It is quite fascinating.

@@johnnyblaze1836 wrote a long answer to your request, but I think it got deleted. I'll try again sometime... But I'll just say this for now.... Religion has 2 main functions... 1. To save, and 2. To sanctify. Christianity mainly focuses on the first, perhaps the Catholic mystivcs came closest to serving the second. Hinduism, which in itself is not a religion, and contains many religions, has the starting point of sanctification, salvation is a secondary afterthought. It's primary concern is what is Real, not how can I go to heaven or avoid hell. That's is why for those who are truly seeking Reality, and not concerned about avoiding hell or coveting heaven, Hinduism is very appealing.

Wright, Carl Trueman, John Stot, John Piper, Thomas Augustin (monk cent. III), and others writers.

Hinduism accepts all religions as different paths to the same Creator. If a Hindu boy marries a Muslim or Christian girl, they’ll never be asked to change their religion but do what they feel is right for them. There’s freedom of thought in the religion. Hinduism believes in doing your Karma and let your conscience and the Creator be the judge of that.
Parents and society would understandably be hurt if a child wants to convert but if the child’s heart is set on that, they’ll give their blessings and ask them to be true to that religion.
Hindus have never invaded to conquer and convert . There are staunch believers, agnostics and atheists all in the same family and there’s the same love and respect amongst all.
    It’s a very accepting-of-all religion.

Hinduism is a non-proselyting faith because its profound tenets imply that a day will come when the gods surrender their rights and jurisdiction over their people to the promised anointed one, the ultimate avatar of Brahma (Prajapati). Jesus Christ is that anointed one who has had sole authority over all peoples since AD 70.
"Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” - Revelation 11: 15

Why go to a country and try to push out their culture? Preach in your church. Preach in your mosques. It's that simple. If you're in India you're free to pray in your respective religious site, Hindus wont mind it, just Don't force the majority to convert to your religion. Stop your little grooming gangs. Love what you’re doing Sean. I think because Hindu’s, as with some other religions, the kinds of questions you might want answered more clearly are generally dismissed because they’re seen as a means to ultimately convert others. As the gentleman stated, theirs is not a proselytizing religion. They don’t seek to convert others. You’re either born into it or you come to it on your own. For Christians with a strong evangelistic (or enlightenment) impulse this can feel very frustrating, as the Hindu will consistently hand wave away nearly all attempts at what westerners think of as linear, logical conclusions that make them feel as though they’ve been boxed into a corner. Or in this case a gospel presentation.

Don't take our tolerance and acceptance as some form of weakness. The real question you must ask is this desperate need to evangelize and convert, doesn't matter how, but it somehow must be done, doesn't it?.. it makes you a rent seeking parasite that can only survive by leeching off of other creature, ensuring their vitality is eventually put off. Vitality to think independently. Because of this insatiable itch to evangelize the whole world, you guys have destroyed almost every culture on the planet, killed off many many hundreds of millions of people in your wake and replaced populations in almost all continents. I say, stay away from India the only last real Hindu nation to survive this onslaught and exist. The day you destroy us, I tell you, we will ensure everything else goes to he!!.
And similarly, if you want to remove Hindus from America, please do so. Coz this cannot be sustained, with one sided acceptance. And the Hindus known for infinite tolerance are now clearly under vicious attack and we will not sit and let it happen.
      Stay away.

  • @universalphilosophy8081
    @universalphilosophy8081 22 дня назад +2

Mr Suresh explained so well every aspect of Hinduism in a simple way.
The basic fundamental of Hinduism (as is with most eastern religions) is to understand dharma.
Once you have understood dharma, then righteousness will automatically follow - whether you believe in any god or not.
Life where animate or inanimate, is about righteous existence. Live and let live.
Because we are all energy reflectors and our main job in life is to reflect what energy we got. The Sun is the primeval God that gives us energy and that we distribute to others in much smaller ways.
The energy within us shine forth physically mentally or intellectually.
What reflects back is our colour (varna).
If we reflect intellectually, we are called colour of Brahman.
If we reflect physically + mentally, then we are of Kshatriya colour.
If we reflect mentally & emotionally, we are of Vysya colour.
If we reflect emotionally and submissively, reduced of intellectual capabilities, then we are of Shudra colour.
The attempt to progress is seen by eagerness to be intellectually effective. That is the way to better the human race. It is part of natural selection.
18:00 One thing that he spoke wrong! The universe has a beginning and an end.
As per Hindu thought, there is no beginning and there is no end. It is only evolution and the cycle of birth (coming to sight) and death (disappearing from sight).

My intention is to express details.
There's are preachers, Teachers, debaters, apologists, refuters etc.. basically each and every perspective is represented.
Above everything here, what's really going on is everyone is being a seeker. Call it Hinduism but no such term exists, when we say Sanatan it's pure physics and cause and effect.. example
"You were born, you will live and you will die"
"If you inhale you will exhale"
"Anything that exists has a cause, and by law of effect it has to not exist at a point in time"
If you think it's religion fine, I know it has nothing to do with religion fine..
Freedom of choice of mode of worship or no worship, to agree God exists or it doesn't or you're not sure.. all concepts are welcome, critical thinking is promoted, conversation is welcome.
You do what you think is best for you and you have the choice to refuse it all.
So what you're seeing in comments are all seekers of Bodh (mastered application of knowledge).

This is a good concept you’re doing. I personally don’t think he represented the theology from the Upanishads clearly at all however. There is One God alone, as said in the Vedas. The various ‘gods’ are just various aspects of forms of One God alone. Energy being God isn’t mentioned anywhere in the Upanishads. The individual isn’t God as the jiva (individual soul) is an illusion and imperfect, rather the Atman (Spirit) is God. However the Atman dwells in all beings and pervades all as well giving it its name Brahman (all-pervasive). Do this again sir and rather visit a temple of some place where the speaker teaches from Hindu scripture alone and not be mere mouth-to-mouth tradition or their personal beliefs. I could recommend places of the Ramakrishna order, the Vedanta Societies in the USA. It would be more theologically stimulating and a more accurate representation of Hinduism per the Vedas (most authoritative Hindu scripture) to speak with someone like Swami Sarvapriyananda, Swami Chetanananda, etc. However, a local priest can be found too. You should make sure the person being interviewed is teaching what Hinduism is from Hindu scripture, not mere personal belief. Hinduism is a vast religion and because of it being a non-organized religion usually passed through mere family or tradition, often times Hindus themselves visit temples but don’t know anything about the scripture. Personally, I’ve met Hindus at Hindu temples who haven’t even read the Bhagavad Gita, the most popular scripture arguably. Please do speak to a monk, a Vedic scholar, priest, etc on these matters so to represent Hinduism rightly in accord with Hindu texts and theology. Thank you sir. God bless you.

Lollipop of Hell or Heaven? Interesting choice of words. Not greedy about heaven or hell is like saying one does not care about their house is in fire. They are not greedy about it. Death is real doesn’t matter whichever religion you belong to and it’s wise to ask in this life what happens after death. If you don’t want to no one is forcing you. This life is your only opportunity to seek the truth. Everyone is born into different sets of ideas. There is nothing to be proud of. You didn’t create anything. You could have been born into different religion and your worldview would have been different based on your parents beliefs and their culture.
I personally don’t get what is there to be proud of worshipping Mahadev’s private part and being high all the time? How come supposed god can marry Sati and Parbati by disguising? Isn’t it dishonest? Would you tell your son to be like Mahadev, mimic his character or marry your sister or daughter to a guy like Mahadev’s character? How come all knowing god didn’t know who Ganesha is and beheaded him and attached elephant’s head in a human’s head and created frankenstein?

Shivlinga means formless shiva not private part 2 cent kid . and your father also married to a women and if women was not there you would have never came to existence similarly godesses is considered as (janani) mother of entire universe our god are not like crist or allah that need proof of existence cause we have more than enough and mahadev beheaded ganesha cause it was vidha ka vidhan means it was to happen to kill a demon because none of god or any person or animal could kill him so he took the avatar as elephant headed and killed that demon .

@@ChrisJod_12. My question is why all knowing God didn’t know about ganesha and got mad at him when he wanted to see his wife bathing? Why didn’t Ganesha willingly sacrificed his head and attached elephant’s head willingly for the cause?
God created men and women. Of course I came from my mother’s womb. We are God’s creation. Linga means male private part and yoni means female private part. It has a form. It is not suspended in the air formless. You do all the philosophical talk and play with the words and call it formless, oneness, infiniteness but the point is it has a form.
Also calling someone to 2cents kid shows how receptive you to the critical questioning. Didn’t God created me just like you? Why can’t I have a freedom to question these things and think critically without being attacked or called names? I suppose that’s what spiritually enlightened people do?

Hinduism does not have a single, universal conversion practice. In Hinduism, one is considered a Hindu by virtue of being born into a Hindu family or by adopting Hindu culture and practices, not by converting through a formal ceremony. Some key points about conversion in Hinduism:
There is no single authority or organization that can accept or reject someone as a Hindu.
Hinduism is more a way of life and set of beliefs rather than a religion founded by a single person.
One can believe in one God, multiple deities, or no God at all and still be considered a Hindu.
An atheist can also be a Hindu, as long as they respect Hindu culture and values.
Hinduism has no monopoly on ideas and is open to all.
