@@DennisSchmelz You have just begun, and its good that you started from "the end", you've seen the celebration of final truth, i.e. death. Now you need to witness celebration of life also. Vielen, vielen Dank, lieber Dennis!
This isn't just a documentary; it's an award-winning masterpiece that deserves to be broadcasted on National Geographic. The editing, shots, voice-over, SFX, and narration are all impeccably done, filling me with pride to be an Indian. This film truly stands out as a testament to exceptional storytelling and cinematic excellence.
What an amazing video Dennis! I have myself never visited Varanasi but man I get chills seeing those shots. I'm an Indian myself who has grown up with a very western mindset when it come to the things I'm chasing in life and trying to build a good life and only the last two years have been phenomenal in understanding my own culture. The part in the video where you ask the question 'did she live a good life?' 'was she happy?' is such an intriguing question rather, like I started asking myself due to life circumstances these questions that 'what does a happy life look like really?' What came to me was happiness is a very Western concept and I then turned back to understand what goes on our in most of the Indian minds and what our culture advises is that we live for our karma and dharma, dharma as its explained is doing our duty. So, I assume she must've done her duty (whatever that would've been) while her time on this planet Earth and if she did it with honesty and integrity that adds onto her either good or bad Karma which is carried on this life and the next so it's all a chain of the life cycle. And in India we also believe in the concept of re-birth which is also something very deep which basically means we'll be reincarnated again to live another life and we cannot really live it all or do it all in one life in co-relation to YOLO western concept of living life. I've realised that's also one of the reasons why Indians are so kind and try to do good to other humans because of the Karma and Dharma mindset (not considering the bad things that happen here cuz of modern day problems like poverty and that follows on) It's something I've also started to learn more about my own country's culture and philosophy of life, it's giving me more life and meaning than ever! Jai Hind!
Thanks for capturing the different shades and contrast of my country so elegantly. Varanasi either truly transforms one's perspective on life and death or absolutely stretches them to a breaking point. Truly an enthralling watch and magnificent work, Dennis.

Well done! That was shot beautifully. Varanasi is not for the faint hearted. I -personally love it. I’m back in India now and heading back to Varanasi in a couple of days.
Dennis, your story on Varanasi has shaken me from inside. It was deep. I suddenly felt that I don't understand my Sanatana dharma enough even though I am born in this holy land. On production side, your shots are amazing and particularly the color grading. Not to forget your storytelling which moved me deep. Not sure if it is over ambitious to rekindle my desire of filmmaking at the age of 48 years. But, you have certainly touched my chord.
What an amazing video! Congratulations that you dared to make the voiceover by yourself (it's something that I still not dare). It gives the movie definitely a personal touch of a friendly, open-minded, warm hearted German guy. The edit is so amazing, I'd wish I could cut like this. The color grading is also fantastic. Funny that you were the star in Bollywood with this amazing camera. For me, India was also my first real culture shock. At the beginning I hated it, after 2 months of traveling through whole India I loved it. India is pure life! And we've even been lucky to see some tigers in the wild. Keep up your good work! Greats from a new follower
Good and bad is personal experience. Just as perfect and imperfect is your expectation. When you drop this idea of perceiving through senses, mind, you will REALISE that is just a scene in a movie appearing in consciousness
Dennis, this is so heartwrenchingly calming. I'm in a similar space right now, but as an Indian experiencing a culture shock in the west. The way you have communicated your experience is exactly the tug I needed in my leash of grounding awareness. Thank you for sharing! 🥺

It's like Varanasi has universal character like positive and negative exist side by side so is sacredness and thuggery or good and evil like it's two parallel side of Ganga river which runs along time immemorial
Hey Dennis, I just wanted to say how incredible your documentary is! As an Indian, I have to admit that making a documentary about India is no easy task, given its vibrant culture and immense diversity. However, you’ve managed to create a masterpiece, beautifully capturing the essence of the country through your unique perspective and experiences. I live in Freiburg. If you ever visit Freiburg, please let me know-I have an idea that I believe you could execute brilliantly (about filming the village life in india).
This is a very well-made film. The Sony Burano camera is excellent. Taking this camera to India was very risky, me thinks, but I’ve found ordinary people to be very honest and that India is deep, wide and full of variety… the spice of life… thanks!
I am an Indian, and visited different countries. The only thing I can say about India- India is not just to "Visit" for tourism purpose, it's there to FEEL- its an entire continent in itself. Maybe the only adjective that comes is "Intense", and don't think the experience of profoundness can be replaced with anything in this world. One of the most ancients (and thriving) civilisation of the world, for a reason.
My goodness what a picture what a picture how the picture is coming with so much clarity and the colour oh my God it's 8k and I love the camera most important thing is the editing one of the best videos I have ever seen😊
I'm a world citizen and every citizen is my own kith and kin We're all one. For me India's each soil particle is sacred. Blessed to born in such rich cultural heritage and one of the oldest civilizations.
I love this format of vlogging. I think it’s important to show your travels and then reflect towards the end your thoughts and experience. It brings rawness and true feelings of your experience.

This sir, might be the most culturally beautiful thing I've seen my country. Thank you for making this happen!
Sony Camera + Cinematographer + Video Editor + Voice Over Artist + Indian culture = ❤ Masterpiece❤
❤❤Love you brother ❤❤
ITS REALY GOOD LIKE A CENIMATIC , WOWWW . PERFECT TRAVEL VLOG
Exceptionally good photography. Visit to Manikarnika Ghat is overwhelming. Seeing the fragility of own life
What an amazing video!
Loved your take on India... absolutely brilliant....i as a indian can confirm that Varanasi leaves a long lasting impact on you.❤
Good and bad is personal experience.
Thank you for your feedback. It's all about perspective.
I am going to varanasi coming weekend so I was exploring videos on youtube. And I found this Video ,its overwhelming.. so awesome .. I had to comment to appreciate it❤️❤️❤️❤️ I really like photography and a big movie buff .. you got the actual concept about India's culture .. hope you go a long way🔥🔥
3:51 The transition from the Spinning Skirt to the Passing Train was just magical 🪄😍
Dennis these shots and editing is impeccable! Loved how you captured every moment and face so perfectly! Respect !
Thanks a lot!
Harmony in Chaos... exceeds unnatural vibe like something is very shivering, chilling but divine... trying to say "Life is Motion as well as Death"...you can metaphorically feel "The Life Circle"...such a great bitter cold Experience.
You can't describe just in bloody fifteen minutes to oldest and sacred city of human history called Varanasi...but your skills of film making is outstanding...
it looks like you just scratched the surface.... Travel from north to south and west to east... you will find 60 countries in 1 and many many different experiences. Your this video is amazing and you beautifully captured the light and shadow of India. will wait for more...
Mal davon abgesehen welch tolle Handschrift du besitzt..!
Wow, danke für deine offenen Worte lieber Peter. Genau das hat die Reise auch bei mir ausgelöst. Freut mich sehr, dass ich dieses Gefühl übertragen konnte! 🤍

Varanasi and North India is a cultural shock even to Indians from South
I thought varanasi is clean and beautiful now a days.😢
@@Jaihind-s4kI am from Varanasi.
It's thousands times cleaner than previous.
Probably you have not seen Varanasi back 10-20 years.

@sadhak-hc2th yess indeed bro.. Banaras changed alot in past 10 year's specially... now it's our responsibility to maintain & take care of that😊
@@Jaihind-s4k bro iam banarasi, and Kashi is clean and good if you travel in main city centre and video shown here is of ghats of holy river Ganga so bodies are burned beside it
Wow! This is pure cinematic. Beautiful Documentary ❤️
Thanks man!
Dennis, I look forward to seeing more such movies, not only about India but other countries too...
Without any expectations India will be very great country to travel, everything you see is unique and teach something new in life , if we travel with a mentality of dirty, Chaos, crowdy as the image of India, you will miss out something valuable, because Lotus always grows in dirty muddy water , it's not India is dirty, it's a politics that sucks and they are least concerned about development, but people here are so patriotic and they preserved our culture and hospitality is best given above all , please don't judge us only because of few bad pages of our country, read the entire book and surely you will get wisdom.
Goosebumps.
I was scrolling through and casually opened this expecting myself to quickly move on... But you made me jaw drop.
Everything, every single thing about this was so perfect.
The voice over, your story, I felt really connected with it, and could almost experience what you would've experienced.
This is rare.
First time on your channel, glad to find you.
India is full of surprises, the video was soo well made! loved it!>>>
Thank you, these images are unforgettable and together with your insights incredibly impactful. I wish it were longer and hope you will create more from this trip.

Incredible images!! I love the "insight part" at the end - well done!! Can't wait to see more and more and more of those scenic travel docs
Thank you Mona. Did you know that our conversation is why I did the insights part at the end. Thank you for your inspiration on that! :)
The girl in profile pic is really you?
@@rashtra8253 Do you mean the girl with the blue face that refers to Lord Krishna? No, I am the guy to the right of the thumbnail.
@@DennisSchmelz Sorry for misunderstanding was asking from monaseum girl. Great video one thing about varanasi it's really unique city it's the most holy and sacred place in the world can also say global spiritual capital but not just long ago varanasi also was the place of greatest thugs in the world. It's like Varanasi has universal character like positive and negative exist side by side so is sacredness and thuggery or good and evil like it's two parallel side of Ganga river which runs along time immemorial
@@rashtra8253 hi, yes it is! 😄
Hey Dennis,
I just wanted to say how incredible your documentary is!
The music went so well with the cinematic shots.
Your voiceover was also so touching.
As an Indian I loved this.
Love to hear that 🙏
Such a great watch. The bar is very high for travel content these days! Inspiring. Thank you.
Thanks for showing our India🤝 expecting more videos of India..That visuals🤩😍
My pleasure, can't wait to come back to discover more of your beautiful country! Maybe I'll come back to Kumph Mela next year.
Wowww ❤I'm looking forward to see kumbh mela visuals through your BURANO @@DennisSchmelz
Oldest civilization, PROUD HINDU❤
This is a very well-made film. The Sony Burano camera is excellent. Taking this camera to India was very risky, me thinks, but I’ve found ordinary people to be very honest and that India is deep, wide and full of variety… the spice of life… thanks!
It was a great experience and I have to say that there wasn't any dangerous situation traveling around India with this camera.
Even many Indians have extremely expensive filming camera
I am an Indian, and visited different countries.
The only thing I can say about India- India is not just to "Visit" for tourism purpose, it's there to FEEL- its an entire continent in itself. Maybe the only adjective that comes is "Intense", and don't think the experience of profoundness can be replaced with anything in this world. One of the most ancients (and thriving) civilisation of the world, for a reason.
भारत में हर कोस पर पानी के साथ आपको वाणी में बदलाव दिखाई देगा.
Excellent cinematography, India certainly is a land of extremes but we accept it gracefully..
My goodness what a picture what a picture how the picture is coming with so much clarity and the colour oh my God it's 8k and I love the camera most important thing is the editing one of the best videos I have ever seen😊
Love to hear that, thank you so much!
I'm a world citizen and every citizen is my own kith and kin
We're all one.
For me India's each soil particle is sacred.
Blessed to born in such rich cultural heritage and one of the oldest civilizations.
I love this format of vlogging. I think it’s important to show your travels and then reflect towards the end your thoughts and experience. It brings rawness and true feelings of your experience.
Like a fever dream. Like it's inspired by famous films like Baraka. Love it.
Its a masterclass on videography and editing
Beautifully made 🎥❤ and yea Varanasi / Banaras is more than just a place. Changed my whole perspective of life after staying there for 10 days.
I got a step closer to death from that moment after Varanasi.
I totally feel you man. 10 days is hard, what were you doing there for so long?

Amazing work, Dennis! The contrast between the colourful Bollywood scenes and the sombre realities of Varanasi was striking. Did you find any particular moment or interaction in India that changed your perspective on life?
Thank you very much. My perspective on death has changed dramatically. Visiting Varanasi helped me lose some of my fear and find a sense of peace.
