This is incredible! You just saved me thousands of dollars of troubleshooting at the dealership. Just ordered the part for my son’s truck…$80. Thank you so much!

Experienced exactly the same symptom with my RX350 after replacing rear valve cover gasket. Took 3 weekends to trouble-shoot vacuum leaks , replacing fuel pump, redo the valve cover gasket and coils.... the problem persisted. It turned out I did not connect the harness to that resistor. What a lifesaver video. Thank you...

I have had this issue multiple times. Popped zero codes....I disconnected the battery to systematically review and check each component , hook the battery back up, and attempt a restart. Each step took roughly 30 minutes of battery being disconmected. 30 minutes normally resets the ECU. Nothing worked. Let it sit overnight without the battery, left the lights on and doors open all night to discharge any capacitors. Hooked the battery back up, instant start up smooth idle.... i noticed that the traction lights were on. Checked the antilock sensors on the wheels, one defective. Changed it out, runs fine....until next time. If it was just a sensor failure great, otherwise it could be any one of the items you systematicly tested.... Intermittent faults are a PITA. Great video, great skills. Thank you very much for a direct approach! You must be in canada or close

I have a 2012 Tacoma 4.0 and I thought you had videoed my truck. It has the exact same problem and with zero warning. The truck has 270,000 kms and has been a gold star till just now. I started the truck, drove 5 km to fill tank and do some errands. Drove to gas station filled up and started to get on my way. I never made it past the pumps. Exactly the same symptoms. I unplugged the MAF sensor and it would idle and that is it. Plug in MAF sensor and right back to exact instant start and stall within a second or two. Jumped the Fuel Pump Resistor, because of excessively high resistance on the Fuel pump Resistor and the truck started and ran like a top. Drove it around a couple of blocks like I stole it and it ticked like a Timex. There were zero engine faults and no check engine light. I have ordered the Fuel Pump Resistor unit and hopefully it will be back up tomorrow. I thank you so very much for such a great tutorial and saving me a huge expense from throwing parts at it. If your ever in the Timmins area, coffee and doughnuts are on me!!! Thanks again, Carter.

I found this because i suspected a faulty fuel pump resistor on my 2012 tacoma 2.7L, luckily you point out the 2.7 does not have one. It's little details like these that sometimes work wonders. Symptoms were similar however mine would idle slow, occasionally die, frequently if driving in town. I cleaned battery terminals, cables + new shrink tubing, topped off cells with DI water...no change. This problem started after replacing the AC relay where my stray bolt arced on the panel terminals I had to exposed for accessing the bolts...always disconnect battery! I decided to check mass flow sensor and found a plug on the air filter housing, which I assumed was the maf or something relevant to detecting air flow quantity, so I unplugged it (motor was running), engine died, upon restart the issue had vanished - my truck was back.
If anyone reads this and has a good explanation, please enlighten me. Also, are the bolts for the AC relay special metal alloy or will any type suffice without creating interference, or engine noise?

This is what mine is doing intermittently...how did you find out the resistance was supposed to be 7 ohms? Mine reads 1 ohm. I checked in chapter four of my Haynes manual and can't find it there.
    '08 Tacoma 4 ltr. approx. 262000
Correct resistance tolerance is 0.70 0.76 ohms at 20c/68f.

Manufacturer says fuel pump resistor should be betweem 0.70 to 0.75 ohms . Mine is 0.9 ohms , wondering if its the problem , same issue , it stalls after starting but randomly….

I'm guess'n he read the ohms spec off the part and it was almost illegible... Or, he said he found it on a wiring diagram and maybe the value was listed there?
But looks like .70 ohms was misread as 7 ohms. Good find anyhow.

@@fupabox so fun fact my truck kept blowing those resistors and turns out the conector had expanded causing bad connection I tested the original traitor and it was good was just the female conector on the truck that needed to be adjusted with needle nose pliers.

@@Tomtom13137 damn . Connector was good on this one . Just the damn resistor crapped out . The ridiculousness of running the fuel pump through a resistor unless full throttle or quick throttle is just silly . My son Nearly died on a busy highway in the fast lane with no shoulder
