@@Freestyle80 if we want efficiency, we will just turn the settings down or cap the fps or put the laptop in a lower power profile. I'm very happy with my 600 dollar 2021 Acer Nitro 5 Ryzen 5 5600H RTX 3060 laptop. I'll probably upgrade to the 5000 or even 6000 if the price is as low as what I paid for my current laptop. Otherwise, I'll just keep on waiting. My last laptop was an HP Pavilion with a 1050 Ti from 2018 for $450.
Yeah, as an owner of RTX 3060 laptop, I feel like for once I am relieved to take a shot at it. The generation leap of 40 series is laughable, considering they tag the price so high, just for that fake Frame Generation feature (Don't get me wrong though, DLSS 3 is a neat feature, but not at such an atrocious price.)
@@nickochioneantony9288 the high price has been the same for my current Acer laptop when it first came out. When these laptops launch, they are all 1,200 to 1,500 but the next year, when the new models are unveiled, they end up getting up to 50% off, which is the best time to buy them like I did at the end of October last year at Walmart. Historically, Black Friday has been the best time to buy these discounted gaming laptops. But for some reason the deal I got was available online at Walmart and similar ones at Best Buy at the same time. The model I chose was definitely the best bang for the buck I could find back then. It was strange but a nice score for a change.

In that moment, everything are pushed towards MSRP as all tech riding towards the next gen (the same will happen again every year, you just have to see when that release window happens, be calm to get a good deal). And after seeing this gimmick by nvidia, let's just say we will hold on to our hardware for 3+ years if they keep doing some overpricing strategy.
You answered all the burning questions I had with the confusing laptop GPU releases recently. Thanks for the hard work! What annoyed me was manufacturers like Lenovo and Asus are charging ~3000 Singapore Dollars for configurations with a high-end CPU and a RTX 4050. Who in the right mind would pay 3000$ for a laptop with an RTX 4050 ??
Yeah it's similar here in Australia :( even the Legion Slim 5 which I believe is meant to be a more budget friendly model is $2600 AUD for the 4050.. Pass! I believe SGD and AUD is similar in terms of conversion.
You can get a Lenovo LOQ with 7840HS + 4060 for about 1.7k SGD on the Singapore Lenovo store rn (with discounts). And that's with maxxed specs (display, storage, RAM, battery etc.). It could go as low as 1.5k if you pick lower options. I'd know cos I just bought one lmao. Not sure where you're getting the 3k pricetag from, but that's way overblown.
True, it's the top binned AD107 die.......in the past the full 107 was the 50Ti.......the binned down 107 was the regular 50........So yes, the 4060 is the 4050Ti.........at least it has 8GB of VRAM.
When I first got into this I didn’t know much about gpu’s or vram. I ended up buying a couple of laptops and taking them back to Best Buy as I learned more. Walked in a couple weeks ago, the HP omen 16 13th gen i5 4050 was on sale for 799. They had an open box one that was basically new for 712. 4060 is clearly better, but I couldn’t pass it up for that kind of money.
4080 is about 30% faster than the 3080ti. But the 4070 is worse than the 3080ti. If u compare 4070 vs a full powered 3080, the 3080 would win. if u take all these results (1440p) by JarrodsTech: 3080ti vs 4080 => 30% for 4080 3070ti vs 3080ti => 8%for 3080ti 3070ti vs 4070 => 2% for 4070 3070 vs 3080 => 12% for 3080 I would say 4080 is approximately 35-40% faster than 4070.
Wow the mid tier GPUs REALLY need Ti versions with at least most of the same value as the 4080 and 4090. Can’t believe they put all the value into these egregiously expensive products because that’s where it matters the least. You can’t make the broke buy 24 karat gold. Make the cheaper stuff utter dogsh*t and they’ll just avoid you. Not shoot for the more expensive stuff.
@@d1kgaws12 thats why 3000 series Laptop gpus are still so good, except frame gen there is not really an improvement for the 4000 series in the mid tier. 4080 has a big performance jump but thats not what a normal person can afford.
@@PepeTheFroggg actually between 3080ti and 4080 is no vram limit. So it might be in vram limited games an even larger difference between 4070 and 4080 lol
I wonder what the difference in performance will be between rtx 4050 mobile 105W vs rtx 4060 mobile 75w. Many laptop manufacturers use the same GPU models but with different TDPs.
Jarrod I think the main advantage of RTX 4000 series is that you can predict it's performance and expect it to be consistent due to it's generally lower power requirements. For example the 3070Ti laptops can be a few %ge up and down simply due to the fact that not all laptop's have VRMs capable of supplying full power to the GPU while the CPU is also active in a game. For example the Omen 3070Ti 6800H is about 5% slower than an MSI GP76 as in actual games, the Omen is able to sustain an avg. of 125W to 130W. So RTX 4000 series is more manageable in terms of performance and thermals. Although NVIDIA nerfing these GPUs so hard on laptops is very very disappointing.
Fair point. One nice thing about these newer cards in the midrange segment is that they have very, very nice thermals. With a little undervolting they can run really cool, allowing for some decent overclocking.
Thanks for the video!! I bought Asus TUF F15 2023 from Amazon UK for 1015£ and waiting it to be arrived. 12700H + RTX 4060(140W), it has 16 gb ram and 512 ssd but I already have spare parts for it to make it 32 GB and 1.5 TB. Seems like a good deal to me. Here in the UK there are not much price difference between 4050 and 4060 laptops as I can see.
Damn man that's a steal In India that same F15 model is going for 1265£ ughh I gotta settle with 4050 for the same price reasons And I think the performance is almost same This for my budget and ddr5 ram is a bonus

Honestly there should only be at most 3 SKUs. Looking at model numbers like 4050 and 4060, they're so far down the stack that one might start considering past-gen models instead like maybe saving for a 3070 laptop
I got lucky in Switzerland and got a HP Omen Transcend 16" with i7 and 4060 at ~900USD back in March 2024. I strongly recommend to wait for Black Friday deals, they will be great considering OEMs need to clear up stocks before RTX5000s arrive.

Hi Jarrod, your content is incredible and I appreciate the hard work you put into your videos. I have an idea for you, would it be a good idea for you to do a mid-year laptop buying guide each year? Getting the LOQ 16 and definitely made the right choice by splurging for the 4060. For an extra 150€ Ryzen 5 7640HS, RTX 4060, 16GB RAM is going to last me a long time.
@@kishorekumar7478 The omen is objectively better spec wise, but that depends on how you will use the laptop. If you will do gaming/working + some occasional video editing, honestly it depends on the price of both of them. LOQ 16 I just got for 1099eur with ryzen 5 7640HS and RTX 4060. I see the omen right now where I am costs 1799eur with ryzen 7 and rtx 3070ti. For me personally, that gap in specs does not justify such a price disparity. If it's within 150-200Eur then you'd actually have to consider if you want to spend a little bit more for the ryzen 7. For me, I game on the newest games and sometimes edit in premier a few things, host an occasional minecraft server with friends or something for me Ryzen 5 is more than enough, there is also something to be said about RTX 40 series having the newest features like DLSS 3.0, meaning that in the long term it's going to be supported more than the RTX 30 series. So performance wise, it could end up outperforming 30 series in the long run. There are many things to consider, but 1st would be price and 2nd most of all is future proofness, as tech comes out every year you want to get something that would be supported for as long as possible to make sure that your device lasts you a long time. I know ryzen 5 is considered mid range now but in practice it's really powerful, not going to run into any issues with any app, game or workflow. Only if you render a lot of things and saving seconds really matters to you, then of course. Hope that helps you make the right choice for you. Both laptops are great, I'm sure but at the end of the day you should go with what is the best value for you, it's your hard earned money.

It’s actually pretty great. Lots of people don’t realize that there is a generational upgrade between each card since the 1650M. I think people has high expectations wanting the GPU be a High settings gpu, but it was more so medium 1080p or 900p high settings. (1650 was more like medium settings at 900p) But now with the 40 series, people dialled down their expectations thinking it would be Ultra 1440p 60fps this time, but now it’s what people thought it would be with the 3050ti, which is fine tbh. I don’t ever expect entry level gpus to go as far as being 1440p, since that would be a big reach. Tho, ultra settings for 1080p is a bit much either way…. So I dunno. More frames then
Looking at this now really makes me wonder if RTX 5050 will be rebranded 4050 with 128 bit bus width , 2 GB more VRAM They're probably limiting the GPUs by bus width and such things just to show generational performance leaps

Given temperature difference, I would rather go for 4050 between two. The thermals will go bad later with accumulated dust and dried out thermal pastes. If I needed a high performance laptop, it would be at least 4070 or above with big thermals not in a budget or mid tier laptop case. But then again, internal GPUs are getting better and better. I'm not sure getting a laptop with dedicated GPU would be viable option after late 2024 or early 2025. Since my laptop usage isn't really a 'main' machine.
Tbh the cost per frame measurement should start counting frame at a tolerable minimum for most people, say 20 or 30 rather than from 0, as you wouldn't want a cheap laptop to play games at 10fps even if its cost per frame is probably insanely low. Frames below that cutoff is really meaningless for this measurement.
Hey Jarrod, I use a MSI Summit E16 Flip with a 3050Ti, but I noticed that the new generation has the 4060. Could you make a video comparing them? I do know that any gpu that goes into a Summit E16 will be highly thermally constrained because they are super thin 2 in 1s with P series processors, but the comparison is still of interest especially since MSI thought the 4060 was worth putting into the smaller frame where I haven’t seen anything more powerful then a 50 class card before.

Where does the assumption come from that future games will need so much more Vram at the same resolution? Historically, Black Friday has been the best time to buy these discounted gaming laptops.

The 4070 vs 4080 has the big performance gap now, thats why there is a smaller gap between 4050 and 4060.
4080 is about 30% faster than the 3080ti.
But the 4070 is worse than the 3080ti. If u compare 4070 vs a full powered 3080, the 3080 would win.
if u take all these results (1440p) by JarrodsTech:
3080ti vs 4080 => 30% for 4080
3070ti vs 3080ti => 8%for 3080ti
3070ti vs 4070 => 2% for 4070
3070 vs 3080 => 12% for 3080
I would say 4080 is approximately 35-40% faster than 4070.
Wow the mid tier GPUs REALLY need Ti versions with at least most of the same value as the 4080 and 4090. Can’t believe they put all the value into these egregiously expensive products because that’s where it matters the least. You can’t make the broke buy 24 karat gold. 4060 will always perform better
I have rhe 45w 4050😅
With a little undervolting they can run really cool, allowing for some decent overclocking.

should I buy LOQ 16 or omen 6800h rtx 3070 ti?
@@kishorekumar7478omen ftw

I think people has high expectations wanting the GPU be a High settings gpu, but it was more so medium 1080p or 900p high settings. (1650 was more like medium settings at 900p)
But now with the 40 series, people dialled down their expectations thinking it would be Ultra 1440p 60fps this time, but now it’s what people thought it would be with the 3050ti, which is fine tbh. I don’t ever expect entry level gpus to go as far as being 1440p, since that would be a big reach.

Tbh the cost per frame measurement should start counting frame at a tolerable minimum for most people, say 20 or 30 rather than from 0, as you wouldn't want a cheap laptop to play games at 10fps even if its cost per frame is probably insanely low.
Probably not as we only have time to focus on gaming models these days, sorry!
@@JarrodsTech I meant between just a 3050ti and 4060 generally. Either way I understand. Thanks for the videos!
I love your content, keep it up !! and when are you going to review the rog g14 2023?
When I'm able to get it. It's been a bit of a struggle unfortunately.
Here on my 3050 Ti. I'll be waiting for 60 series.
Hi @JarrodsTech. Can you test Asus Tuf F15-FX507ZV-LP094W. It is the cheapest full powered Rtx 4060 laptop I have seen so far around $1200 but with 12th gen intel core i7 processor and how it stacks up in the competition. Would be helpful for a buying decision. Thanks.
4060 vs 4070 would be nice🎉
Hey jarrod. Thank you for this Review. Are you working on reviews regarding the loq Series by Lenovo? If so, when can we expect to See them?
Where does the assumption come from that future games will need so much more Vram at the same resolution? We have long since arrived at the next-gen PS5/Xbox series and graphics performance will therefore not increase substantially over the next few years, as these consoles will continue to be the gold standard for game development.
Hey jarrod could you review the new Asus z13? I have the 4060 model and I’m noticing lots of micro stutters. It’s making the game unplayable, hopefully there will be a fix in future updates? Or is that just how it will be?
I have question please
Which one should i choose f15 with Prosser intel core 13750 and rdx 4050 or A 15 with prosser R7 7534h s and rdx 4060 please answer both 16 Ram DDr5
Can you do 4060 vs 4070 laptop? Might as well do some premiere and photoshop exports
thanks for the comparison, for future videos can you please add the desktop benchmarks as well especially when we have 4070ti/4080/4090/7900xtx (if you have have them 😀)
is there any test to see the performance of Adobe after effects? if so can u show those in ur future videos?
some of us dont game much and only buy these powerful laptops for work mostly. so ya its a big deal
how is ASUS 2023 ROG Strix G16 16" FHD+ IPS 165Hz Premium Gaming Laptop, 13th Gen Intel 14-Core i7-13650HX, 16GB RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB, RGB Backlit, Windows 11 Home for unreal engin 5?
Neither of those are worh the $$$. As long as Ngreedia will be skimping gpu dies + VRAM and laptop manufacturers will be putting 512gb ssd, 16gb ram and 1080p screens without full sRGB on 1200€ laptops, I ain't buying shit...
My legion 5 with 3060 and 5800h, 1TB SSD that I bought almost 2 years ago, feels like a steal now... I've noticed that on the newer models the components are totally downgraded at the same price point.
bro , mw graphics were awesome and we run that game in intel hd graphics , its all to extort money
i wish u do ASUS TUF A15 2023 R7 7735H,RTX 4060 configuration review very soon.. and thanks for good videos..
The more VRAM, the better. But if it's between the same goddamn iteration from a particular series, I'd rather consider even an older model. If I have a freakin' 1080ti that has 11GB VRAM, I'd never trade it for any RTX card.
As someone who uses AMD
Radeon RX Vega 10, buying RTX powered laptop is my dream. Maybe I'll wait for RTX5000 series
get a laptop with RDNA integrated graphics if you can, entry level gaming performance but with much better battery life, no VRAM issues and much lighter, thinner. Nvidia is making joke GPUs.
Love this video. Just got a 4060 RTX laptop
They will have to drop the 50 60 70 80 90 concept. Since 50s are literally giving you casual gaming, 60s midrange, 70s give you 4k, 80s give you all. 90s make no sense to buy and should instead be repurposed as GameDev GPUs for next gen.
Immo they need to change the numbering concept and reboot their brand. Maybe take the Apple route and labels cards with a regular RT, PRO, ULTRA cards. And go with a different name for game dev GPUs.
Just got a Zephyrus g14 with this and the ryzen 9, I just wanted something I’ll be able to game on and use for as long as I can
Which one is better for gaming:
Msi katana RTX 4060 (8gb) intel i7 12th gen
or
Msi Cyborg RTX 4050 (6gb) intel i7 13 gen??
4060 all the way
@JarrodsTech man I am LOVING your children of bodom shirts!! Best band ever
i5 13420H Rtx 4050 6gb (tgp 75W)
Vs.
i5 12500H Rtx 4060 8gb (tgp 75W)
Which one is better? The 13th gen one is Nitro V15/Victus and 12th gen one the Gigabyte G5 KF
Hey jarrod which laptop should i go for the one with rtx 3060 or 4050 both im getting for 1280$
What about 3070 vs 4060?
Nice shirt man favorite song?
Something wrong with some of these benchmarks, it's impossible that 4060m gets 110fps in cp77 raytracing at with dlss balance, when other reviewers get less than that even with frame gen
Maybe the CPU? these laptops have I9-13900HX.
May be due to the different test location in the game.
Nice video man! Can you review the rog flowx13?
why r there no creative benchmarks? This is idiotic. Plenty of sandbox style games mimick modelling programs there's really no excuse even if ur only gaming
