WOW!! A lot has changed from my day. I was in A school back in 1985. (so old) we had 4 people to a room, 4 lockers, 4 desk, bunk beds and community bathrooms. This was at Great Lakes, so bootcamp was there just across from where the school was. I did go on later to become a surgical technician, going to Bethesda Naval. Surved in the FMF over in the Gulf, Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Alot has changed, even the location with A-school being mixed with Air Force, and Army. The previous a-school in Great Lakes is still standing (abandoned) with all of its history inside. Hands down you had a wild ride during your time serving for sure with FMF, and the multiple tours! Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and thank you for serving.
Wow what happened.....needs a complete revamp. Thank you for taking the time to post your experience shipmate very informative. Appreciated it. Keep making them
When you hit a school you're gonna be doing workouts with other atfs early as hell in the mornings kinda like SOs went to dive mo in boot, but y'all be getting barely any watches so enjoy that 😂
I’m actually a drop from EOD/ND/DMT prep. It’s really not a prep it’s an assessment and selection course. Biggest thing is having absolutely perfect form for push sit and pull. Good run times. Get very comfortable in the water. They’ll do a lot of things trying to make you freak out underwater etc. find your happy place in the water. Good luck bro. Hope you make it!
was the rate of HM open when you went to meps?? Im going to meps soon hopefully to become a HM and people been saying its not likely going to be open. I have the asvab score all ready for it.
Great video, very informative...how long was your A school and how was the weather down there? I'll be done with bootcamp around february and will head to core school after that...i can't wait
okay that's it, i'm subscribing, your videos are AMAZING!! Thank you for making this video, it's very informational! also, how do I become a Navy Corpsman that works with the Marines?
Grace Eitland Quizlet is your friend, it is very competitive especially since some people already have prior experience. STUDY,STUDY,STUDY! Cannot stress this enough. Ask a lot of questions, if your class decides to do a night study, even if you're not required to go,go, it won't hurt you. Stay focused, i saw a lot of people go down for stupid shit like drinking, assault and just bs. Find a good group of friends who will keep you motivated. It really comes down to how bad you want to be #1, hooyah?
Going in as HM in March, I really would like to go greenside. Any advice on best route to get picked for that? Don’t you get to have some liberty and pick your orders during A school? I know it’s up to the whims of the navy in the end.
Friends and family can meet you at the airport before you fly out to exchange anything extra that you need or want to take to Aschoool. Now that you are a service member traveling on orders you should be allowed extra bags and overweight by most of the airlines without additional fee. When I left bootcamp i have 1 seabag, one garment bag, and the bootcamp issue backpack.
@@owensmattHey, if my family can’t meet me at the airport after BC graduation can they just give me the bag and I bring the bag into Great Lakes with me until I’m sent to A School?
A-school was little over 2 months, almost 3. Depending on if your orders already have Cschool attached to them or you get a Cschool options when you pick orders to stay after you graduate Aschool and different schools are different lengths
They are multiple choices and they cram ALOT of information in a short time and studying for each quiz youll have to do in the evening. Once you get into the nursing weeks of school it's becomes a little less stressful.
Matt Owens what did you do to like be able to learn everything if it’s so crammed ? Like I don’t want to be to overwhelmed and at least have some free time
Yes, there's thousands of corpsman that are reserve. You'll go through the same pipeline as active corpsman through bootcamp, aschool, and cschool (if you are selected for one). Once you graduate the school you'll return back to the office you were sent out from and you'll be a reserve corpman from then forward. You'll still have obligations to fulfill but yes you can be a reservist and a corpsman.
Badass video man just became your 100th sub. Quick question i leave for boot camp soon im gonna be a corpsman. Will i have time to train MMA when i get to the fleet?
I've heard some of the process and school house requirements have changed but it should still be around 19 weeks after you class up. Some times waiting to class up can make that shorter and/or longer.
Depending how long the wait is to class up. Once classed up about 6 months give or take no setback with getting dropped back from possibility of failing a test (which happens alot but it's a huge deal as long as you continue to pass)
In the fleet if you are in a BLS class and you're still within date it's not required but in aschool they may require it just to keep everyone on even terms.
Fleet returnee is normally someone that comes straight from the fleet to be classed up. Depending on your instructors they may give you the responsibilities of fleet returnee still.
Inna Yeremina when I was last there you were able to but only in designated smoking areas but rules are always changing with military so it's possible that has changed.

I was an HM2 loved being a Corpsman!!!!!, I was in San Diego, Balboa Naval Hospital where I was trained.
I went to Hospital Corpsman A School in 1965 (I’m old) and right to the Marines for add’l training before my time in The Nam.
I just arrived at Fort Sam Houston yesterday. Thank you for this.
Did you make it?

Great video bro new subscriber do you have to get national certified as and EMT....did you join straight out of high school
battleborn213 it's not required for Navy to get nationally certified out of aschool but Air Force is required.
Great vid content, thank you! Quick question: can you do med school in the Navy, while you are active? Or does it have to be after your tours?
Do you get to pick what kind of corpsman job you want ? I’m interested in physical therapy, if not how do you get assigned your corpsman job?
I'm enlisting as a HM soon, and I was wondering if you have any suggestions to what books I should read before A-School.
Don't read a damned thing before you get there. You'll know what I mean when you get there
Do you need a security clearence? Ive heard yes and no

How was it?
Is Chicago O hare airport were we cen get our luggage for A school from friends?

Hey. What if we're already EMT-B certified? Do you think its redundant to do HM?
I’m a bad test taker. How hard were the test and are they multiple choice ????
They are multiple choices and they cram ALOT of information in a short time and studying for each quiz youll have to do in the evening. Once you get into the nursing weeks of school it's becomes a little less stressful.

Jesse Jack good question
Does a corpsman get to travel a lot or not?
I answered your question in my last video. Check it out if you have a chance & thank you for the question.
Any advice for HMDA?
You'll have clinic life or big deck selections when you choose orders.
I am still struggling on if i should become corpsman oe join the army to become a ranger medic haha
Ranger medic if you want to actually see combat or do that training.
@@Supremebean303not true. Greenside is always in need/undermanned rn.
How many weeks is it?

How long is the school for x rays?
All together and with clinicals can be close to a year at Fort Sam
what about a transfer? from a clinic, but want to start clinicals for x rays? 6 months?
Depending how long the wait is to class up. Once classed up about 6 months give or take no setback with getting dropped back from possibility of failing a test (which happens alot but it's a huge deal as long as you continue to pass)
I'm just super scared of giving people ivs
Matt, May I ask you a personal question? What is your father’s first name?
I have the same last name and am looking for relatives.
If you’re already BLS certified, do you have to recertify?
In the fleet if you are in a BLS class and you're still within date it's not required but in aschool they may require it just to keep everyone on even terms.
Matt Owens Thank you
waht about prior service dudes do they fall under fleet returnee
Fleet returnee is normally someone that comes straight from the fleet to be classed up. Depending on your instructors they may give you the responsibilities of fleet returnee still.
I did my corps in san diego ay balbo
Are you allowed to smoke E-cig at A school? And if you are not allowed what is the punishment can be? Thank you
Inna Yeremina when I was last there you were able to but only in designated smoking areas but rules are always changing with military so it's possible that has changed.
do you get to pick your C school
Does Lee have a channel? I want to be a rad tech as well and I have some questions.
Sadly he doesn't have a channel but what's your questions on being a rad tech?
