I admire you choosing to live in a pop up camper and making it so comfortable. We are overlanding South America (in a van) and have shared time on the road with a Canadian couple in the same camper. Yours, for a single driver, really highlights the possibilities. Well done I think. By the way to stop fussing with your turnbuckles check out RUclips on “how to seize a turnbuckle” from years of living on sailboats you don’t need to be tightening them all the time. Cotter pins and baling wire to the rescue! Best wishes from Valdivia Chile (this week).
Hey thanks, I appreciate that! I’m excited to explore South America. So many beautiful places to see. Yeah when Bowen installed the truck bed replacement the camper is now bolted down. Very very very rarely do the turnbuckles come loose
Absolutely love your sense of adventure. I live out of my suv and travel, but want to get a mid-size truck with a Four Wheel Camper. I like your arrangement it gives me some good ideas on how I might want to do things.
Thank you! Just so much world out there to see and learn from. How exciting! When do you think you'll make the switch? If you have any questions, happy to help the best I can
@HifromAshley Love your attitude. There is so much to see out there. I have traveled and lived out of my vehicle since 2008. First, with a car and a tent, then a Subaru Forester sleeping inside. Just bought a new Subaru Outback about 6 months ago and feel I'm living a life of luxury. The mid-size truck with a 6ft mid-size truck really appeals to me now, though. Figure in maybe 6 months I could make the finances work. I really like the Four Wheel Camper with the base model. I like the way your setup looks, though, with a couch or bed for comfort inside. The front dinette in the model would work, but it is little pricey as an add-on to the base model. Maybe could do something that works for a lot less. Anyway, I enjoyed your video. Thanks a lot.
Since 2008 !!! @@mickeybrumfield764 that is incredible. It would be great to see if you could rent a similar set up to experience it for a week or long weekend. As you know there are pros and cons for everything hahah Personally, I strongly dislike the prefab FWC, they all feel like you are living in a hallway, I am so lucky to have found this custom shell model. If you're a person that like comfort and open space, I would strongly suggest trying to find a shell model and custom build it out or if you have the cash to buy a new shell model. The only add on from FWC I would say is, two fans and the thermal package. Other than that all the wiring and solar from KP at Zero Declination in Reno NV and then build out the couch platform and cabinets with 1 inch boards, overall the inside cabinets could be built and installed in one weekend.
@HifromAshley What you say makes a lot of sense to me. I don't camp in regular camp grounds, I go off-road and find my own places. I will need a 4 wheel drive truck and the Toyota Tacoma(experience) or the Nissan Frontier(less expensive) appeal to me. You can get a Frontier with 6ft cab and 4-wheel drive with a payload of 1430 lbs. Do you think that is enough? Does your satellite oriented internet work well in most places?
@@mickeybrumfield764 same, off road has the best camp spots. 1430 for a custom shell should be enough for a solo traveler. But it depends if you will add a bunch of heavy items like a winch or the 360 awning can be quite heavy. Starlink is simply amazing. Its so fast and works just about everywhere.
Very nice build! We use to have a FWC as well and hopefully will again soon. Next time definitely with a Bowen bed as well. Have fun driving south. We are a few countries ahead of you.
That is so awesome, where are you now? I just arrived to Costa Rica a week ago. You’ll love the Bowen bed, such a game changer to keep things organized
@@HifromAshley you are speedy! We just left Costa Rica 2 days ago. Spending a week up in some elevation in Panama to escape the heat. Let us know if you cross over anytime soon.
@@malimish a cool off will be great! Panama has some incredible mountain. I’m currently looking to escape the rain, day 7 or 8 of rain for me in CR I’m looking to head to the pacific. Trade the rain for heat, if you have any camp spots, would appreciate that. Haha yeah I drove straight through Honduras, I’ve been before and Nicaragua, needed to exit before my 90 days, otherwise would have liked to stay in Nica longer.
@@HifromAshley we spend just shy of 3 months in CR and I can send you some places we stayed though it's not gonna be easy to escape the heat unless you head up higher. You are coming into the wet season now. I'll send some over based on where you are planning to be via IG if you'd like

Obviously this is Porter’s house but it’s super ace of him to let you crash too :)
He’s so generous, he even lets me drive his truck and chauffeur him to a new country each month.
You are amazing - thank you for sharing and all the very best to you and Porter!
Thank you! More videos coming soon. Will give Porter some pets for you.
What a beauty!
