Hi Mark. You certainly are an - 'engine whisperer' - nicely done. These videos of yours must certainly help engine owners who are hesitant about striping/cleaning/renovating - to having a go.
It runs great. Nice to see it will be used again. I have one that I put on a small Bipe. I took it out of the box and I ran 4 or 5 tanks of fuel through it. The bipe was for a 29 to 35 engine. It barely flew on the 20. It got oiled went back in the box to wait for a different plane. The bipe got a nice 25 on it and now it flies nicely.
Thank you Mark for posting this video. I have just acquired the same engine, brand new in box, and plan on breaking it in soon. Your idle to full throttle on this engine seems spot on. Did you not even touch the bleeding screw?
These are really good engine, you should enjoy running it. It was a while back, but think I just set the idle screw mid way in the airbleed and that was fine, never touched it 😀 thank you for the comment, pleased you liked the video.
Hi Mark. Another great set of vids on this OS engine. Just a couple of questions if I may. 1) How did you work out what size "O" ring to order for the carb body to go back into the main crankcase body? 2) What brand screwdivers/hexdriver do you use? 3) How are you fixing the digital tachometer to your test stand? Thank you.
Hi, thanks for the comment, appreciated. The O ring size was taken by measuring the carb spigot and getting a ring 1.5mm id thickness. Sorry don't know the brand but they are available on ebay I think. I use velcro to fix the tacho
Finger-flipping with a plastic prop... I can see you know what you're doing but those plastic edges are pretty sharp and my finger hurts just thinking about it. I'd use a chicken-stick or put a spinner on it and use a starter motor.
More often than not I use a starter on glow engines, but didn't with this just to show what a nice starter it was. Never use a starter on my diesels or Sparkies, you just get used to flipping them over 😀
It depends on the planes and its design, I am building both types at the moment. I do quite like beech engine mounts, but not as adaptable if you want to change the engine, but they do often produce a sleaker look, being built in.
Is there a reason I can't find duraglo 5 anywhere in the UK right now ? I'm embarking on a nitro balsa rebuild which was handed off to me, this being my first nitro as I'm an electric wing flyer. The engine im restoring is a thunder tiger gp 42, your videos have been a great help so far 👍
Thanks for the comment, pleased you found the videos a help. DuraGlo is not made any more, as Model Technics was bought by Optifuels and the range has been sevearly reduced. Model Shop Leeds is the best place to see what is available etc
I have an old OS 40 , totally bunged up. Its not been flown much so, so probably not dirty in over use. I dont feel confident in stripping it down, is there any way of loosening it without a full strip down?.
@@MarkRobinson555 Hi Mark , started to strip it down. Engine stripped, all pretty clean , carburettor still solid. What's the best fluid to soak it in?. Also what's the best solution to clean the gunge on the outside of the engine, it'll be elbow crease as don't have that bath thingy you have.

Thanks very much for the kind comment it's really appreciated 😀
Fantastic job. Just the video series I was looking for. I wish you all the best.
Thank you very much for the comment, pleased you found the videos useful
Thanks Mark, it sounds amazing just like I remember when dad was using it 😃
Thanks for the comment Roy, really pleased it brought back good memories, it does run sweet, thanks 😊

I typed the size wrong on the bipe. It was 19 to 35. Going from the 20 to a 25 made an incredible difference.
I was amazed at how quickly she went from idle to full throttle. Nice little motor. Looking forward to seeing what model you build for it.
Thanks Terry, it did run really sweet 😀
Great transformation Mark!
Glad you think so!
Thing is beasty
Wow, this one is perfect.
Probably, thanks to castor oil, ot runs so good.
Thanks for the kind comment, its appreciated

Nice engine, good job
Thank you very much
I had one of these. I never thought I would find a vid of one being restored on YT! Did you ever fly at Sutton Park? (just hearing your accent hehe)
Never flew at Sutton park, but did go and watch the flying back in the early 1970's, great fun
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Excelente 👌 👌
Thank you very much 😀

50 years old!!!! What a sweetheart!
Hey Mark - when you build your models... you you make your engine mounts or buy them?

Try heating it up with a hot air gun or in a oven, gently on a low heat and try turning over. Once it moves plenty of oil
