This guy is actually one of the lead engineers at The Gravity Group. He designed rides you may have ridden like The Voyage, Zippin Pippin, Hades 360, Mine Blower, and Ravine Flyer II. He is one of the best coaster designers out there right now, I strongly recommend riding one of his creations!

Something to note about rides going down: quite often it happens because of the guests on the ride and not the ride itself having an issue (cleanups take time), and if it's a sensor being tripped when it shouldn't be, that's still much better than it not being tripped when it should be.

The most insane coaster I’ve been on was X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain in LA. The seats are on the side of the rails and spin independently (though how they spin is programmed in). It’s absolutely nuts-you have no idea what’s happening. The ride starts by climbing up the hill backwards, so you don’t know when the drop is coming. Suddenly, the seats spin so you’re staring straight down the nearly 90-degree drop. It was a bucket list coaster that did not disappoint one bit.

1:19 This answer should have been reviewed by a physicist, I doubt it was. It doesn't apply to steady drops or loops.
We don't experience weight in the first place, what we actually experience what we sit down is not our weight pushing downward, but the surface pushing us back upward, and that feeling is concentrated on where we're making contact with that surface, even though our weight is centered in our lower stomach. What we call the feeling of weightlessness is when that upward push gets weaker or disappears completely. When a carriage falls down a steep, steady drop, accelerating under its own weight, that is when riders experience the most weightlessness, because the carriage stops exerting that upward force on them. A similar, though generally weaker sensation of this is felt in loops as the carriage crosses the apex.
The whole centripetal acceleration explanation is a special case of this explanation, and _only_ applies to going over hill crests, which wasn't in the original question to begin with.
