This is a great introduction into rollercoasters. There is a very passionate community of roller coaster enthusiasts that live and breathe the thrills these attractions can provide. We would love to welcome anyone new that is interested into our community.
I live in a country where there aren't any roller coasters. I dreamed of experiencing a roller coaster, until one day I went to a trip overseas and experienced the thrill of riding one for the first time. And I still remember every single aspect of it. It was a super fast, high adrenaline experience I have had. Just putting this out there.
Lol bro technically the thumbnail is wrong because kinda is is a strata but it would more be labeled as a hydrolic launch, because in the future there will probably be chain or cable lift coasters over 400 feet. GP a, I right
Very deliberately left out a very popular emerging rollercoaster form (in the last ten years) The Hybrid coaster is steel track on a wooden structure, allowing the structure to take tighter hairpin turns, steeper drops, do inversions, and have more intense airtime. Often these Hybrid coasters are created by taking an old wooden coaster that is less popular, and using its structure to rebuild it as a new coaster. This has been seen with Steel Vengeance, Iron Rattler, The Joker (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom) and many many other coasters. The reason this was left out is because this guy’s company Gravity Group competes very directly with the company that makes hybrid rollercoasters (Rocky Mountain Construction)

I gotta make a correction on 4D coasters: Not all 4D coasters have uncontrolled spins. Rides like X2 and Eejanaika have a seperate track that controls the spin of the riders so you get the same ride every time. However, rollercoasters like Batman the ride at six flags fiesta texas or intamin zacspins do not have a controlled spin so it is a different ride everytime

I absolutely adore riding roller coasters. Every time I go to a theme park, carnival or a fair, I have to ride every roller coaster that they have. It's such a rush and I love that weird feeling that you get in your stomach while riding them. I mean the movie Final Destination 3 kind of put me off of them for a while but I still ride them whenever I get the chance to. So seeing the science and mechanics that goes into making them is so freaking interesting to see. Thanks for sharing this video with us. I really enjoyed watching this.
I'm surprised he didn't mention the hybrid coaster thing that's been so popular lately. Taking on old wooden coaster and re-trackng it with steel so that can potentially go upside down and give more airtime than it would before. Six Flags LOVES doing this (Magic Mountain's Colussus becoming Twisted Colossus, SF New England's Cyclone becoming Twisted Cyclone, etc.)
He's mistaken when he says 4D coasters allow you to spin freely. At least in the case of X at magic mountain (which was the first 4D coaster) the spin around that axis is specifically controlled. For instance, during the near vertical drop, each rider is spun to face straight down. Each ride is exactly the same.
They should add a manual element. Like make a top gun coaster where you have a joystick which can roll and move your carriage etc etc..... Its probably already in the works tbh tho.

Just a bit. Also saying there's 12 Gigas, showing Showing X2 and mentioning free spinning seats as well as no mention of Hybrids.😄 Other than that, great video.
That's so funny that he mentioned a major aspect of the wild mouse rides being to question if they're even safe. I've been on a ton of rollercoasters in my life, but the wild mouse in Blackpool is still one of the scariest that I can remember. I genuinely felt like I was going to get thrown off the track, that thing was crazy. The seats are tiny on it too, me and my friend are both pretty skinny and could barely fit. A+ would ride again.
Gröna lund has some interesting rides, no mention of Insane though, which is a 4D coaster (the tall white/purple coaster to the right on the Gröna lund video at 12:37 , also to the right at 16:24 and to the left at 16:31)
Most people tend to get this wrong but on the ride X2 at six flags magic mountain you aren’t actually free spilling, there is a second pair of rails that run inside the track that control the spinning movement. Pretty hard to explain it you just need to trust me on this one 🤣
That's a very nice video and Korey being very passionate is joy to listen to, so thanks Wired for this video. It's a bit unfortunate there are a few mistakes on the illustrations images, tho (not a lot, luckily).
14:07 this unidentified shuttle loop in the picture was actually the "Cobra" coaster at Moscow VDNKH park. As far as I know, it was demolished several years ago
When this guy was talking about taking advantage of the elements, I remembered my ride at Hair Raiser in Ocean Park, Hong Kong. The park is way high on a mountain and the rollercoaster was going around to make you see how high up above you are in Hong Kong.
Great video, but I'm surprised they completely skipped over the RMC's famous hybrid coasters, where they take an old, beat up, wood roller coaster, and add steel track to make it far smoother, and extremely intense! The king of a hybrid coaster is "Steel Vengeance."
I just want to thank you for this video, I'd forgotten how much I love roller coasters. I just spent the last week binge-watching a ton of theme park content with no regrets
18:00 - Not to come off as pedantic, but the X2 coaster is not a free-spinning 4d coaster. It’s a distinction worth mentioning because one of the reasons X2 is so buttery smooth (and one of my favorite coasters), is because the rotations of the seats are specifically dictated by the portion of the track you’re currently on- there’s no randomness. The result is a smooth ride designed around your center of mass, which means less of that disorienting and painful whiplashed feeling. I make this correction with ZERO disrespect to the engineer here. He’s obviously very knowledgeable and knows his stuff and knows WAY more about coasters than I do! Just thought this one note was worth mentioning. This was a great video! Entertaining and educational! The best combination of things!
I said the same thing in a different post. X2 and Eejanaika control the rotation. All other 4D do not have the 2nd set of rails and actually are free spinning.
I loooove roller coasters. Nothing I would back out. So it’s super interesting to see the different ones and how it’s made and the incredible engineering behind it.

i love gravity group coasters. my favorite roller coaster of all time is one of theirs. the voyage at holiday world.
Same it was cool af to see my #1 get talked about on here
Yeah, plus they always have really fun coaster events! But nothing beats those sunset voyage rides in the fall 😍
Mans working for gravity group while sitting in front of a gci and a b&m
Kings island, the closest park to gravity group hq, the park with the most wooden coaster track length in the world, but not one gravity group ride 😂
@@badlycroppedalanschilke9531 to be fair....the Beast is like 3 normal woodies slapped together
@@Posirep The Beast is like three really weird wooden coasters slapped together. God bless Charles Dinn
Who else got triggered when they showed a picture of Leviathan when talking about Fury325?
what's even worse is that they showed the wrong "batman the ride" xd
@@GoesByJ omg Ik haha
Reminds me of "Not even a 100 year old roller coaster" shows steal vengeance
fury325 is the best thooo
Just a bit. Also saying there's 12 Gigas, showing Showing X2 and mentioning free spinning seats as well as no mention of Hybrids.😄 Other than that, great video.
Ah yes, the classic “Is this safe”? aspect always adds to the thrill.
0/10 what's a roller coaster video without ElToroRyan explaining block zones again
For those of you that are unfamiliar...
Lmao
facts lol

@eltororyan
They missed HYBRIDS!!!
It’s because the guy works for the gravity group, Rocky Mountain Construction (makers of hybrids) rival.
Gröna lund has some interesting rides, no mention of Insane though, which is a 4D coaster (the tall white/purple coaster to the right on the Gröna lund video at 12:37 , also to the right at 16:24 and to the left at 16:31)
13:54 ”so were using Linear Syncronous Motors” Shows a picture of linear induction motors
Anything more intense than that big pirate ship that rocks back and forth and I’m definitely blacking our 🥴😢
This is the only time I would enjoy a roller coaster breakdown.
"Seven Dwarves Mine Train"
Shows Big Thunder Mountain*
"Corporate needs you to find the difference between this picture and this picture."
"They're the same picture."
I was about to comment the same thing.
Green Lantern
Shows Riddles Revenge
Bro your pfp
You gotta seize the opportunity
I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO SAY THATT
17:47 "Any other types?"
"Yea"
This guy's a pro
there’s ALOT more coaster types
@@occasionalcooper8814 like hybrid coasters
I don't even really like rollercoasters and yet this guy makes them seem like the coolest things in the world.
At 12:57 in the video they call Big Thunder Mountain the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train🤣
As a RCT player, I feel like I already knew all of them
Most people tend to get this wrong but on the ride X2 at six flags magic mountain you aren’t actually free spilling, there is a second pair of rails that run inside the track that control the spinning movement. Pretty hard to explain it you just need to trust me on this one 🤣
That's a very nice video and Korey being very passionate is joy to listen to, so thanks Wired for this video.
It's a bit unfortunate there are a few mistakes on the illustrations images, tho (not a lot, luckily).
He's at Kings Island in Mason Ohio
good job sherlock
14:07 this unidentified shuttle loop in the picture was actually the "Cobra" coaster at Moscow VDNKH park. As far as I know, it was demolished several years ago
As a coaster enthusiest I love this video, anyone else a coaster enthusiest
Yes
I take it that this was filmed while gravity group were doing the refurbishment of the Beast? Pretty cool video.
No mention of hybrid coasters?!? Wth
It was probably because he works for one of RMC’s main competitors
Watching to make my coasters better in rollercoaster tycoon, its crazy how much that game got right
I just want to thank you for this video, I'd forgotten how much I love roller coasters.
I just spent the last week binge-watching a ton of theme park content with no regrets
as a roller coaster enthusiast, this is an amazing inside look. thank yall for making this!
He's got the best job ever
This guy's passion makes the video so much better!
"I could tell you some stuff right now, but I'd get in trouble, haha"
Alright then, keep your secrets.
Pretty sure he's standing in front of the Banshee at Kings Island. I just rode thise for the first time last week and it was awesome.
Is actually diamondback .
The fact that he's in front of a B&M, brilliant!🤣
anyone else notice they used a pic of big thunder when they meant to use seven dwarfs
Hard to believe that there wasn't a single mention of RMC.
Right?? Like I kept waiting for a hybrid coaster category or something but nope
@@xxsoulpunkedxx Because he works for the Gravity group and RMC is going to put them under eventually.
12:58 The picture shown is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, not Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
This guy helped make Hades 360 in Wisconsin Dells. I highly recommend y'all check it out, it's a masterpiece!
Or voyage @ holiday world
No it is a rough nightmare

Pretty cool to know that Topher Grace is a rollercoaster engineer when he's not acting.
I loooove roller coasters. Nothing I would back out. So it’s super interesting to see the different ones and how it’s made and the incredible engineering behind it.
Engineer: How big do you want it?
Cedar Point: Yes
I love cedar point
12:57 hate to break it to you, but that's thunder mountain railroad. Not Seven dwarfs.
Who edited this?! So many photo errors it's not even funny.
weird coaster choices that don't match what the engineer's talking about too. hollywood rip ride rockit is a great ride but is an extremely weird coaster choice to display when discussing inversions lol
@@breadvelvet Exactly! Let's talk about overbanked turns while showing a picture of a corkscrew. All they had to do was Google image search the term.
Sound design is trash too
And how about the interviewer, where almost every question begins with "Okay," or "So,"?
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit didn't have any inversions, it has a non inverting loop and when he was talking about inversions I was like, ohp a mistake.
7:24 captions say Aero Development and it upsets me greatly. It's Arrow Development/Arrow Dynamics.
