One of the things I really like about your videos Ken is that you're able to do it all in one take. You see all these other "creatives" relying on the jump cut, and it drives me crazy. Your dedication to the single cut shows just how much expertise you bring to the subject of singing, and I'm a fan of what you do! Keep rocking always \m/
Thanks, M-Ben! Not only is it a one take, but there is zero autotune. It troubles me that some vocal coaches say that autotune is the accepted norm and so therefore it's OK for vocal coaches to use artificial means to sing on-pitch! Really???
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy pitch correction is the norm. Auto tune is the most popular form of pitch correction. If you take the top 20 songs on billboard almost all of them have some pitch correction or autotune. It makes a good singer great. You can make autotune not sound like the sound we associate with auto tune such as the cher effect or the tpain sound.
Was it the norm for Freddie Mercury? Or Dio? Or Ann Wilson? Just because something is popular or the current "industry standard" does not mean it should be used. And it certainly does not help make better music. Auto tune makes people lazy, and the music suffers because of it.
M-Ben Fowler were talking about current day. Idc about Freddie Mercury. His time has come and passed. Great vocalist but music changes I doubt he'd be famous in this era making primarily rock music. Rock's not the musical juggernaut it once was. Because the people today have different taste. It doesn't mean it's better or worse it's strictly opinion not fact. I grew up listening to rock, pop and rnb from the 80s. Most of time i prefer current music today then 80s music with the exception of MJ. And that's my opinion it's not fact. I enjoy listening to today music over the past. It's your opinion that's auto tune is lazy and makes the music suffer is simply not fact. Your sounding like an old person complaining about music was better back in the day than the music people listen too today.

Not only that, but there is loads of music on here; old folk music, folk hymns, ballads, blues, work songs, chantys. This far surpasses the environment of a single local teacher in a practice room.

sigh my vocals class teacher never tells us how to improve technique, she just tells us to sing with more emotion and gives tips not to be nervous SMH you’re a god tho
Hi Ken, just came across your channel today. Wow... you're a superb teacher ! So impressed with *how* you teach ! 👍😊 So glad that Dennis DeYoung is still going strong in 2019 ( 3 years after you filmed this ) He is so phenomenal isn't he. Pure talent. BTW, like recipes, vocal lessons just never get old, and that there is magic ! Thanks again Ken !
MysteriousGirl 92 Yeah, it is... we're joking around, making up lyric lines that sound similar. "I wanna Rock and Roll all night... and PART OF every day." ;-)
Cortney Kepesky that was how Dennis DeYoung did it. He deliberately sang in what he called a "phony baloney" English accent to get that sound rather than his native Chicago south side.
This may come off wrong but there is no one, single "british accent" even England itself has various accents and dialects. I doubt you sound like a jordie or a manc when you sing. :P Interesting though. I've always found a lot of English singers sound american when they sing.
4:42 WOW, it’s amazing to hear how easily he ascended into his head voice/falsetto! And it sounds so full! He’s got an amazing voice, it’s great! He really knows what he’s talking about.
Oh and aaahhh, thanks for the clarification on those lyrics! I went my entire life thinking that the guy was singing; " saved an open Coors for an emergency ~~~" Thank God I never sang that one karaoke! (Kidding, I never sang karaoke)
Auditioning for the voice for the second time, and I have great confidence this time. Your lessons help alot, and if I had the money I would buy your stuff for sure.
@Tristan Clemons @Dai Shere you both are much braver than I am :) Good luck out there. Get those chairs to turn! Remember to create a moment. Light up the room!
My Husband can really get that ruff/growl sound James has, going. We like to end random thing with a ruuuuuuff. It's hilarious and one of our favorite bits in our repitiore.
It's not about what he can do. That's his voice, not yours. Find what your voice can do, and make the very most of that. If you try emulating someone who has a ton of training and talent you are going to get frustrated, or pick up very bad habits. Concentrate on your voice, not his. Oh, and never be afraid to make a horrifically bad sound. You have to make those sounds to learn how to make nice ones.
Almost 1 year practicing. I can sing like 80's 90's Rockstars. Though this generation doesn't appreciate Old slow rock. It makes me sad that they listen to autotune than natural voice.
I am a second soprano in my church choir for 14 years this is how we practice before class for warms ups depending on what we are singing. I sure do miss choir since Covid. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you Ken I think you are the best 👍
Stumbled across this by accident and never heard of this guy. But he impressed me, nonetheless, within the first five seconds because he wastes no time teaching what you need to know. Trying to think of everyone who I know who enjoys singing, so I can share. Too bad that singing is nothing that interests me, personally, because if it did, then this guy would be my mentor.
Thanks for your kind comments, George, and I really appreciate it if you will send some links to some of your friends that might want to learn more about singing. That's very generous of you to take the time to do that!
Like most singers, i’m starving. So no money for A-class singing course. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge for free 🙏🏻 A first class act sir. You definitely are.
Just discovered you, fantastic! Your voice is beautiful! I am a mediocre singer, but I love to sing, so I want to improve enough that the people around me ( yes, I break into song anytime, anywhere) don’t cringe at my voice, because I can’t imagine life without singing. Thank you!
Don't get mad, get glad! I have a lot of students just discovering how to really sing! They are so glad to finally be getting it. It's never too late to get a good thing going!
Im not even kidding "only sing the vowels" has just changed me from a sucky singer to decent...just that one piece of advice has made a huge difference
And that's just one piece of information. Think what it would be like to have an entire course of information like this. Thanks for reporting your results, Steve!
This is really fascinating. I had no prior knowledge about vowel shapes and air flow through the mouth. You really show that the voice is an instrument to be mastered with practice. Thank you. 😊
Fred Herrman I've been singing like 30 years, and never much thought about it in an intellectual manner. I'd say, "Don't pronounce things too sharply, it takes the feel away." Example: America. We can't say "All-e-ga-tor lizards in the air..." because it's distracting. You blend the letters together more, like you do if you speak the language natively.
I would love to, Imma! I have a ton of free videos on RUclips, but I also have a singing course that is on sale right now. www.kentamplinvocalacademy.com
Hey, Ken. Great videos. I'm looking to take some vocal classes near me. I love singing, and have a decent voice on my own, but my range is lacking. Specifically, I get a crack I can't get rid of between my normal range and falsetto. I've tried practicing it away, but it still happens. Another issue is that my falsetto is really crackly and not pure. If anybody has any tricks to use, please tell me.
I am so impressed on how you teach vocal technics bro. not mentioning you singing skills and voice quality. I also teach voice lesson here in the Philippines and i amm learning a lot from you. Thank you very much! God bless you!
This... is incredible. You are a talented vocalist and a talented, passionate teacher. I'm a computer engineer who always wanted to learn how to sing and has been kind of trying to learn on the side, and I really appreciate these videos.
You are one of the best teachers on RUclips. I never knew that singing techniques were this important than simply doing some random vocal exercises. Thank u soo much 🥰🥰
I love singing even though singing doesn't love me as much as I do lol! Well, I will just focus on my daughter. When she grow older I will let her watch your video Sir.
Wow, game changer! Those 5 vowel sounds are also used in the Maori language (New Zealand's Indigenous culture). Might be why they are such good singers too!
Ok so I have a RUclips subscription, and I had the screen turned off but when he hit that High note I came on to like the video.. my mouth dropped! What an incredible teacher.. he clearly loves what he does! #Yaaassss But on a serious note.. I want to be able to hit high notes like he does.. I love his singing and speaking voice. The acoustics in the room are perfect and everything sounds powerful.
Keep watching the videos, angelique! I need you here to sing vowels with me. You can to the essay in the morning... and listen to the video in the background...
I am a retired guitarist/musician who sang background vocals in cover bands for decades. I had some sinus surgery done in 2017 and it changed the resonance in my instrument. As a result of that I haven't really sang since then because nothing worked like it used to. I was never a great singer but was what I considered adequate. Ken, you are very inspiring. Enough so to make me want to learn to sing better. I write and record my own original material these days just for fun and I occasionally produce projects for others. I believe that knowing how to sing correctly would greatly improve my ability to communicate vocal nuances to other singers when working on productions.
Ken, just wanted to personally thank you for your help. And I wanted to say that I think the SINGLE MOST helpful thing is your passion for your craft. That passion is very inspiring!! (Its why Ive long been subscribed.) :) Keep up the great work sir! You are keeping real talent and real music alive!! ;)
WOW! I am simply blown away! So excited to check out your other videos! I am a actress in NYC. I have been looking for the perfect coach for voice lessons. You are AWESOME! Thank you so much for sharing your gift!
I recommend that everybody come back and watch this video at least once a month if you don't have a vocal teacher or Tamplin's singing course. This is probably his single most important video beyond the basics with breath support and all that. It's just such a nice concept that will almost immediately improve your singing if you ever feel you've hit a wall in your singing path. I've been working on a cover for Come What May from Moulin Rouge and I could not hit the highest note of the song for whatever reason. I sang the song with just vowels and I immediately figured out why I was splatting; my vowel modification was terrible. Such a good video, love love love.
Thanks for the kind words, undeadman7676! You're right, this video contains PURE GOLD for those wise enough to recognize it when they see and hear it. This information, as well as an infinity more, is part of my singing course. This technique alone can unlock a lot of songs and help you to determine why you can't sing it in practical applications, yet you are capable of hitting the notes in scales and exercises. It's the consonants that mess you up, and the fact that you are trying to sing words instead of vowels. We sing on vowels. Consonants interrupt vowels. We break the song down into pure singing, and it gets much easier to see, hear, and feel what we are doing that is holding us back. I give information like this for free in hundreds of videos. If you get the course, all of this and much more is given with exercises and instructions, plus the moderators on my forums help my students to get to the next level by giving feedback on your progress if you are enrolled in my course.
Weird that I watched the whole video (I'm not a singer) and halfway through my throat starts to hurt a little, like being rasped, as if I were singing the notes myself with you all the time... Weird how the mind and body connects some times... Reminds me of the research done a while ago where a group would exercise at the gym and the other group would only visualize exercising inside their heads, and both groups achieved the same muscle growth for that period of time.
Interesting that your throat hurt, but mine didn't. I reduce the air flow so that the volume is also reduced. It's not nearly as wearing on the voice as it sounds like it could be.
FireRust Tommy Shaw let me strum his guitar during a song and grope his leg too!🤩. It was awesome! Then bumped into James in the lobby of the suites we were all staying in,and he says you looked like you were having fun last night! Im like heck yeah! been around since Crystal Ball fer creyemeny. 🙃
Dude... they weren't born in those decades, it's normal that they don't know. And even so, I know a whole deal of music, even ancient music, roots reggae, whatever you name it. And I didn't know that song from Styx ; )
Holy Tamplin! Watch out Karaoke I’m coming lol 😂 seriously 😳 This is a great video! I don’t know how I got here but I’m sure someone in my home is going to be angry! Lol 🎤
Miss Defiance hahahaha me too. It came up on my RUclips feed and I thought I'd watch to see if I could learn something new, well I'm blown away! 🤗 Gotta show my kids this when they're bigger.
I agree. Not even sure how I got here, but the topic is fascinating, he's easy to understand, and he sounds wonderful...even found myself participating near the end (thankfully I'm here alone)
Literally Have went from not knowing i had the voice I do to making music. Have 12 songs released and never quitting! You've helped me tremendously and I can't thank you enough. I hope your voice and lessons touch anyones ears that want to sing. We ALL have a voice!
I have watched various vocal teachers on youtube and I have to say, I think you're maybe the most englightening of the lot. Thanks for this content. Super useful!
Wow great video! I kind of suspected something like that about the higher pitches and vowels, but it's great to have someone explain it all with so much authority.
Hey Ken - I joined after 10 minutes of viewing this vid - hadnt heard of you previously but you make perfect sense and you dont mince words - totally on point from the gate. Im 64 yrs old, a blues player and want to add more range to my bass voice and hopefully learn to sing with some vibrato. I have one video uploaded in 2007 - an improvised song from a bet.
One of the things I really like about your videos Ken is that you're able to do it all in one take. You see all these other "creatives" relying on the jump cut, and it drives me crazy. Keep listening, and don't let it bother you. It's part of the process of getting better. Keep singing, keep improving, and don't ever give up!
I'm the same way
sigh my vocals class teacher never tells us how to improve technique, she just tells us to sing with more emotion and gives tips not to be nervous SMH you’re a god tho
Cauliii, you can always get good informatino about improving your vocals on my channel. Thanks for the kind words.
Leave her! You only get one chance to chase your dreams
You need a new singing teacher
Cuz she doesn't know how to sing thats why...
Practice... Practice.... Practice
Can someone give Ken an award for giving hearts to allll comments ✨😄?
Btw just noticed he's becoming younger and younger.
Haha! Thanks! 💜💜💜
dude I don't know Who You Are but you can really sing!!!
Thanks, Douglas! Pleased to meet you. Ken's the name. Thanks for the compliment!

Hi good one
CN
Thanks great one.
Glad to have you here, BlakeLikeAPro!
Try styx father Sosa Dennis de young hard to sing song
I used to think it was "set an open course for the birds and sea." lol
Mark Cheetah- "Hold me closer, Tony Danza", “The girl with colitis goes by.”, “Like a virgin, touched for the thirty-first time.” It happens...
Haha! Yeah, there's a lot of those. Cheers! :-)
MysteriousGirl 92 Yeah, it is... we're joking around, making up lyric lines that sound similar. "I wanna Rock and Roll all night... and PART OF every day." ;-)
haha " set an open course full of urgency"
yeah, it's "the virgin sea"
My jaw dropped when you started singing, sir, you are just..😦✨❤👑👑
Wow, thank you!
Interesting 🤔 I've noticed that it's easier for me to sing some words in a near British accent, while I'm totally a southern North American 😅
Interesting though. I've always found a lot of English singers sound american when they sing.
Cortney Kepesky: Bet your voice is beautiful & bet you're a heart breaker.
Robert Culpepper funnily enough my English friends have told me it's easier for them to sing with an American accent
I only sing alone in the car, but i do this too! I can also do a really good South East English accent because I used to live there
4:42 WOW, it’s amazing to hear how easily he ascended into his head voice/falsetto! And it sounds so full! He’s got an amazing voice, it’s great! He really knows what he’s talking about.
My singing is cringe worthy...
uvcoach42- I can help you with that.
Well, stop cringing and then your "singing will be worthy." ^_^ See? Simple. Just drop the cringe.
🙋🏽♀️
@@vadaminot429 me too😭

😀👍
Hell yeah
Oh and aaahhh, thanks for the clarification on those lyrics! I went my entire life thinking that the guy was singing; " saved an open Coors for an emergency ~~~" Thank God I never sang that one karaoke! (Kidding, I never sang karaoke)
LOL! That’s so funny! But I really like what you heard! Who knows! When traveling, when you might want or need an open Coors
Bahaha! I thought it was "Set an open course for an emergency."
TONI DUPONT-MORA 😂👍🏼
I thought it was “set an open course for a merging sea”. Until today!
Don't let this guy fool you, you were exactly right. Coors is the official beer of Styx. Aiiiiii swaaaaayaaaaaa eeeee aaaaiiiirr
Auditioning for the voice for the second time, and I have great confidence this time. Your lessons help alot, and if I had the money I would buy your stuff for sure.
Tristan Clemons I'm auditioning for the voice too!!
Tristan Clemons good luck y'all!!!
@Tristan Clemons @Dai Shere you both are much braver than I am :) Good luck out there. Get those chairs to turn! Remember to create a moment. Light up the room!
I auditioned twice and i wish i had found his videos before i did because they are so helpful
Tristan did you get picked?
Who watches too many videos and still don’t know how to sing
Well, you do have to do more than watch. You need to actively participate.
Kim Lisa Yep, I still sound like a cat caught in a trap! 🤣
I'm just going to end everything in "Ahhh" Ohhh" and "YEAH!" like James Hetfield.
Name this tune:
Yeah ee yeahaaaah...... HO! 😄
Ha, ha!
🤓
phantumgrey oooh yeah!
My Husband can really get that ruff/growl sound James has, going. We like to end random thing with a ruuuuuuff. It's hilarious and one of our favorite bits in our repitiore.
Ken, I want a few your stem cells transplanted in my vocal chords and surrounding area. LOL. Killer vid.
LOL! Thanks for the compliment, Eric!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy please i want to learn how to sing like Don Williams, please help me
Detest Star dude....
Detest Star savage af lawl
Likely cheaper to have him as your vocal coach, but I see what you're saying :)
4:45 I quit. I'm done trying. He just crushed anything my voice can even dream of doing.
You can do it, Gabrielle!
Though this generation doesn't appreciate
Old slow rock.
It makes me sad that they listen to autotune
than natural voice.
😀😀😀
You're not looking hard enough if you think everything is autotuned
Rock is my favorite
Im keeping my singing in the shower. 🤣
My girl friend asked me if I could sing solo, she meant so low she couldn't hear me ;-)
David Mohr, take my singing course and she will be loving those solos! :)
kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
That is hilarious 🤣😴
David Mohr - Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
David Mohr sing in a different key, try key west. Lol
I sing good tenor. Tenor twelve miles away.
erixpass- Haha! good one! :)
erixpass 😂👌 cracked me up
Ya you got me, lol'ed ty
And I will sing the solo. Solo ya cant hear it.
Ha!
I am a second soprano in my church choir for 14 years this is how we practice before class for warms ups depending on what we are singing. I sure do miss choir since Covid. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you Ken I think you are the best 👍
You're the best, Millie! Thanks for the visit! 😊
🥰🥰🥰🙏
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge for free 🙏🏻
A first class act sir.
You definitely are.
Jean-Sébastien Richer I hear man. Help yourself, there are more than 600 videos out there.
Oh I definitely will, master Tamplin ❤️
So I tried to practice this and I swear I even offended the birds... I can tell your classes would be awesome
Try to keep the birds happy! They are our friends!
hahahahahahahahahaa BEST coment
Just discovered you, fantastic! Your voice is beautiful! I am a mediocre singer, but I love to sing, so I want to improve enough that the people around me ( yes, I break into song anytime, anywhere) don’t cringe at my voice, because I can’t imagine life without singing. Thank you!
Wow that will be so great Well Good morning 🌞
Wish I would have had you at age 24, I am a little pissed off right now
Don't get mad, get glad! I have a lot of students just discovering how to really sing! They are so glad to finally be getting it. It's never too late to get a good thing going!
Paul Dance you are so funny . Made me laugh. I wish the same thing.
sigh me too!
What age are u now then??

Im not even kidding "only sing the vowels" has just changed me from a sucky singer to decent...just that one piece of advice has made a huge difference
And that's just one piece of information. Think what it would be like to have an entire course of information like this. Thanks for reporting your results, Steve!
This is really fascinating. I had no prior knowledge about vowel shapes and air flow through the mouth. You really show that the voice is an instrument to be mastered with practice. Thank you. 😊
Fred Herrman - You are welcome!
I suspect you have to have knowledge of phonics in order to understand. I don’t know, since I was taught to read from memory, not pronunciation.
Thank you ❤️
You're welcome, Wagner! 🙂
I wish he can give me training, l sing like a strangled cat.
I would love to, Imma! I have a ton of free videos on RUclips, but I also have a singing course that is on sale right now. www.kentamplinvocalacademy.com
Imma you are very funny. Don't worry you will learn to sing well.
Thanks a ton!
wow you're awesome!!!!
Thanks, Mopheus!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy Oh and you're very handsome too 😁
Thank you, Morpheus!
This... is incredible. You are a talented vocalist and a talented, passionate teacher. I'm a computer engineer who always wanted to learn how to sing and has been kind of trying to learn on the side, and I really appreciate these videos.
Awesome to hear from you, Elysian Shadows! I'm glad these videos are helping you! 😊
Internet is so small Falco
I envy anyone who can sing in tune,
My course can help you! kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
It's tough but you can do it too. Just gotta practice
You are one of the best teachers on RUclips. I never knew that singing techniques were this important than simply doing some random vocal exercises. Thank u soo much 🥰🥰
FORGET TO SAY:YOUR A GREAT TEACHER WITH GIFT OF ENCOURAGEMENT !!! GBU ☺
Thank You, Sally! GBU, too!
Carl Wells Could be!
Your teaching technique is outstanding! You sing beautiful - perfect tone. Thank you for sharing!
So nice of you well Good morning 🌞 I hope all's well with you?
Ok so I have a RUclips subscription, and I had the screen turned off but when he hit that High note I came on to like the video.. my mouth dropped! What an incredible teacher.. he clearly loves what he does! #Yaaassss
But on a serious note.. I want to be able to hit high notes like he does..
I love his singing and speaking voice. The acoustics in the room are perfect and everything sounds powerful.
wow i have a essay due tomorrow of 2400 words, and im here singing vowels with ken awww hell nawww lol... i wish i can sing like him haha
Keep watching the videos, angelique! I need you here to sing vowels with me. You can to the essay in the morning... and listen to the video in the background...
Hell, I can't even sing but I'm sitting here nodding my head like,"Yeah, that makes sense." Thanks for the great vid tho!
Rock on!
I'll be here when you're ready. kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
Ken, just wanted to personally thank you for your help. And I wanted to say that I think the SINGLE MOST helpful thing is your passion for your craft. That passion is very inspiring!! (Its why Ive long been subscribed.) :) Keep up the great work sir! You are keeping real talent and real music alive!! ;)
musicisbrilliant - Awesome! Thank you!
WOW! I am simply blown away! So excited to check out your other videos! I am a actress in NYC. I have been looking for the perfect coach for voice lessons. You are AWESOME! Thank you so much for sharing your gift!
Thanks, Angela!
My vocal teacher told me speak and that is how to sing. Help. lol.
You need to sing like you are singing. Speaking is for speech. Singing is for singing songs.
Your music teacher needs to sacribe to Mr.ken teaching .
Wow.. Just landed to this Amazing class.. yes it's 2020🤓 and I ain't leaving... camping Here🤗 till I get it right. Learning so much. Thank you
😊
Wow! Really impressed! I've just started to learn how to sing and your expertise and tips are awesome! Thank you Ken😊
Thanks, Jimmy!
FeelingShred Soo true!😁 And yes we're very appreciative of technology now..I learn more from utube then my school and parents taught me!
You inspire me to become a great singer and never give up! Do you have any other tips?

oh Ken, you didn't have to tell me it was "an old STYX song", if that's not common knowledge by now, too many people don't understand amazing music
Lol 🎤

Why am i watching this? I don't even sing... but here i am mesmerised by vowels.
It must be time for you to learn to sing, Miss D!

Awesome, Star!
I have watched various vocal teachers on youtube and I have to say, I think you're maybe the most englightening of the lot. Thanks for this content. Super useful!
I tried for 3 seconds and it made me cough 🤣 Singing is not my mission hahaha 😝
Wow great video! I kind of suspected something like that about the higher pitches and vowels, but it's great to have someone explain it all with so much authority.
Thanks for your comment, Morganstudios! I appreciate it!
