    My rope fish lived to be 17 years old. I loved him!

    • @L4C4c4t4
      @L4C4c4t4 6 месяцев назад +1

      They usually live 20-30 years, so, probably happened something to him before entering in his medium lifespan, maybe he got sick. If yes, I'm sorry, but being able to keep a fish for 17 years is still an incredible goal, so, don't get me wrong (maybe you tought I was saying you are a bad fish keeper)

    I found one at a Petco when I was looking for another species. I was fascinated by the appearance. It has been home with me for about four or five years now. They are everything you say they are. I think it is high time that I get a second one. Sometimes, I see the bichir and the rope/reed fish hanging out together.

    My ropefish ALWAYS hides in my ship decor with my iridescent sharks. He only comes in COMPLETE darkness and only if there is brine shrimp. My ruby barbs usually get all the shrimp before he even comes out. When I give shrimp pellets usually the iridescents get it. My tank is 75 gallons btw.

      You can purchase PVC pipe, they love hiding in it. And lots of plants. These fish are still entirely wild caught, and they can take months adjusting to life in the aquarium. sometimes the older ones (often bigger in the store) are used to eating live food, and it can take them a few weeks to go for a patiently offered meal day after day. Every 3 weeks offer a few fresh killed feeder (rosies) fish, until you get them converted to sinking carnivore pellets. Good points on this vid.

    So I have had my Reedfish for the last year or so.. He is around 7-8 inches, and has recently acquired an appetite for smaller fish. I had a school of 9 barbs , a few GLO barbs as well... In a matter of a few weeks I only have 3 left. I try and feed the community as much as I can to keep everyone happy without over feeding every day but damn, this Reedfish has consumed over 100$ of fish 😂💀I have never seen it feed but only notice the disappearance and newfound girth of my ReedFish. He’s by far my favorite addition to my aquarium but he’s a killer.

Plenty of hiding spaces help...and there is this myth that if put together they'll kill each other that people read on the internet and regurgitate on videos and blogs lol. But that is not true....honestly they can't even do much damage. They primarily feed on algae, their mouths are tiny unlike cichlids which can do some serious damage. Hey I'm a new reedfish owner. Or was. My first reedfish died in about 2 days. I have a 20 gallon long with various kinds of peaceful fish. I have hiding spots. Caves, makeshift hides and plants. But my reedfish died of some sort of bacterial infection that I can't fi d a name for. The face, lips and head turned a milky white with what looked like a white film, and its tail region, and butt, were like dark or blood red and its tail also lost all its color and turned pasty white. Ive read of other accounts of this but no one knows what it is. I'm not a beginner to fish, but I am to reedfish. I tested my water. It turned out to be fine. I even cleaned the water before i got the fish. New filter cartridge all that. And to be sure nothing lingered in the tank after it got sick I did a 100% water change. Cleaned everything again. And am awaiting a new redfish from my local pet store, and asking them to make sure the supplier knows it is healthy. This infection came on so fast. It was fine and swimming and doing its thing the first day. Second day kt was fine. I left flthe houde for a few hours and he was swimming kinda violently and sometimes very lazily. Then the symptoms of his colors. I put him in a quarantine tank. But I lost the fish. Have you ever heard of this or these symptoms?

      what do you mean by "hardy"? able to survive poor water quality, yes. But they have to be basically target fed every day, so i would not say "easy". hardy as in they might die of starvation. They come from the wild, you have to get them eating. And you have to have a tank with no holes. really secure one. I had to DIY, remake my entire hood.

      depends on their sizes, but the general rule of thumb is; if they will fit in the bigger fish's mouth , dont mix them.Sorry for the late reply as i have been on vacation, but i hope this helps! -Gus

      These fish will leave a pool and look for land for part of their time - so your pond's environment would need to be well enclosed. They like soil.

      Filtration, you need a proper filter with coarse, medium and fine filter pads, and when i say fine filter pad i mean filter floss or polyfill.
