They usually live 20-30 years, so, probably happened something to him before entering in his medium lifespan, maybe he got sick. If yes, I'm sorry, but being able to keep a fish for 17 years is still an incredible goal, so, don't get me wrong (maybe you tought I was saying you are a bad fish keeper)
I found one at a Petco when I was looking for another species. I was fascinated by the appearance. It has been home with me for about four or five years now. They are everything you say they are. I think it is high time that I get a second one. Sometimes, I see the bichir and the rope/reed fish hanging out together.
Im looking at getting one. I just lost my goldfish, so I have an empty 55 sitting in the living room. We are gonna clean it out, redecorate, and hopefully get something unique.
very cool, I think I might get one once I have the space. my passion still lies with show goldfish and aquascaping but I've been looking for a new interesting fish for awhile, and these seem perfect.
+Rob I don't have and haven't had any experience with show gold fish but if you'd like to show me some of yours I would love to use them for my channel. My email is at the beginning of the video of you're interested.
well, once I can save up a bit and purchase a decent quality camera (I don't have a smartphone, so I don't have that convenience) I will definitely take you up on that offer, right now they'd just look like colored blobs on my camera, but I would absolutely love to show my little buddies to RUclips.
I've seen these fish before but they were called ropefish by this person and said to be extremely predatory not to be kept in anything like a community tank.
+Kyo Jane they can be pernicious indeed. I've seen them hunt feeder rosy minnows and swallow them whole. As long as they're kept with fish bigger than an inch and a half they'll do fine with other fish. 👌
i have one of these in my 25gal (eventually going to get a bigger tank) and originally had a betta in there as well. today when i looked at the betta i noticed he had eaten a huge section of the betta's tail fin! luckily i have 4 tanks and had a place to move the betta, but just a warning to everyone looking to get these guys, i wouldn't recommend putting them with any think that has betta-like fins or they may get eaten.
My ropefish ALWAYS hides in my ship decor with my iridescent sharks. He only comes in COMPLETE darkness and only if there is brine shrimp. My ruby barbs usually get all the shrimp before he even comes out. When I give shrimp pellets usually the iridescents get it. My tank is 75 gallons btw.
My beloved rope fish slinkey is amazing she gets along great with our black spot catfish and is best buds with our peacock eel and one thing I can say and she loves to eat guppies and hides in our filters and loves her little rock she claims as her own good advice though
I have a rope fish and he's picky eatter he really likes blood worms and every one in a while worms it seems he like easy food that doesn't thrash around
Nice video mate. How on earth do you clean the tank without them jumping out? Don't want to worry about them jumping out every time I need to clean the tank
You can purchase PVC pipe, they love hiding in it. And lots of plants. These fish are still entirely wild caught, and they can take months adjusting to life in the aquarium. sometimes the older ones (often bigger in the store) are used to eating live food, and it can take them a few weeks to go for a patiently offered meal day after day. Every 3 weeks offer a few fresh killed feeder (rosies) fish, until you get them converted to sinking carnivore pellets. Good points on this vid.
I hate to ask a question that sounds very stupid but the reedfish is that the same as a ropefish? Also is it better to have two? or does that matter? I know sometimes fish need each other like schooling fish
So I have had my Reedfish for the last year or so.. He is around 7-8 inches, and has recently acquired an appetite for smaller fish. I had a school of 9 barbs , a few GLO barbs as well... In a matter of a few weeks I only have 3 left. I try and feed the community as much as I can to keep everyone happy without over feeding every day but damn, this Reedfish has consumed over 100$ of fish 😂💀I have never seen it feed but only notice the disappearance and newfound girth of my ReedFish. He’s by far my favorite addition to my aquarium but he’s a killer.
So I just got one the other day, I made sure I got food that sank so it could eat it. Well he prefers to eat the other fish in there. I am now missing two bumblebee fish. So I'm just going tot buy him live feed. What do you suggest, that wouldn't be to expensive to keep up with?

Hey im thinking about getting a few of these is 5 to much for 75 gallon or should i only get 3? The tank will also have a couple of big plecos (8-12 in) and do you have any ideas for colorful smaller sized mid and top swimmers that wont get eaten to make the tank not look empty
I have a 55 gal, my ropefish is at least 7 inches, he won't eat. I've had him for about a week, I know their like eels and like to hide, I have many hiding spots in my tank, I never see him so I can't feed him, I found out he comes out at night. +YaBoiRaven V. They love them, I'm doing a better update for this video and I actually got a little footage of my reed catching and eating a rosey minnow!
Boulders and rocks look amazing in tank but cause so much trouble. I will do a video explaining what I mean. I am thinking of getting rid of it and go with plants for my fishes to hind... I'd like me self a Reedfish looks like a sea snake lol. My little boy will go through the roof if I had one lol

Cons is they usually hide that's why you can' t see them swim very often.

Filtration, you need a proper filter with coarse, medium and fine filter pads, and when i say fine filter pad i mean filter floss or polyfill.
