  • In this video I said regional which is incorrect it was an R3
Royal Air Force Holmpton or more simply RAF Holmpton is a former Royal Air Force Cold War era nuclear bunker that was built in the 1950s as an early warning radar station as part of the ROTOR Radar Defence Programme. Located just south of the village of Holmpton, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, RAF Holmpton remained a part of the Defence Estate right up to 8 December 2014 when it was sold into private ownership after 62 years of military service.
The site runs to about 36 acres (150,000 m2) and comprises a number of surface structures along with a secure 35,000 square feet (3,300 m2) command bunker which is about 100 feet (30 m) below ground.[1]

    I do apologise it’s not a regional it’s an R3 bunker.

This was absolutely fantastic. The condition of the massive place is so astonishing. 👏 Thanks for letting us tour along, Jay.

I did two tours there in the 60's, working down the "Hole" as it was known as. Brought back many happy memories being stationed there even though it has changed so much now, thank you. It was known as RAF Patrington back then, and we lived near Patrington Village on the domestic site at Patrington Haven.

Weirdly it’s closed up. Phone line disconnected. Owners seem to have gone recluse. Weather it’s been recommissioned I’m not sure or the owners just closed it. I love the bunker I would live in it tomorrow

I was stationed at RAF Buchan 1979-84. The layout is practically the same as this with the exception of the rooms had different uses. There was no dormitory, bar or cinema in the bunker at Buchan. The footage going down the stairs freaked me out because it was exactly the same.

Great vid! Always wondered what’s down our local bunker at RAF Shipton. This one is probably very similar. Thanks for the tour!

I've had bad tinnitus since I was 5 years old, and its been constant for the last 45 years, when I went down into to this bunker it completely went away.

That’s such a bazar story. I could quite happily live in one of these places

The bunker was constructed as a Faraday cage, it stops electrical interference and radio waves to protect electrical equipment inside. If your problem started again when you got outside looks like you're tuning in!

thanks for a very interesting video. Being a wheelchair myself this is the only way i can see this sort of thing. I am very interested in ww2 history because we should never forget the Men and women who risked their lives for us.

I agree I love anything military but I was brought up around it. My dad was REME lance corporal class 3 in the Korean War and my uncle was RAF WO class 1 I spent most of my childhood watching Lightnings take of from RAF Binbrook. It was a sad loss to lose that base most of my memories were of it. I have quite a few videos on Binbrook. It was a good station back in the day

Very different from my day( 1962/65). No sleeping quarters, definitely no bar ... all frefreshments from a small room next to rest roomPBX first left in corridor and much bigger switchboard...PABX3.

Was it a good bunker to work in

      @heathermjones1 Год назад +1

It was! So much different then from how it is now though! As I said. no sleeping quarters, sick bay, the refreshments were in a very small room attached to rest room, no cinema or bar and the PBX was first on the right as you enter! State of the art 3 positioned. I was PBX operator. Despite the serious side of what was going on in the world, they were great times.

@heathermjones1 I could quite happily live in that bunker now out the way of all the worlds drama I love the place.

WOW can not believe I`ve been to Spurn Point twice and gone straight past this. But then again that was about 20 years ago. Might of been closed then.

20 years ago it was operational and no one would of really known what this place truly was

Currently closed. Rang recently and no answer. Rang again three days later and now disconnected! Website not working. Facebook pages not updated for years. Supposed to re-open in April 2022 but clearly hasn't. I wonder whether the MoD has decided to take it back given current tensions with Russia, though would not make a lot of sense given everyone will know this place has an underground bunker. Real shame as would love to visit. At least we have your video!!!

Because of the nature of the condition and location and lack of vocal speak from the owners I would say it’s been recommissioned
