Abandoned Georgian Vicarage

This abandoned Georgian vicarage was built around the 1850s as a local told us. Sadly we cannot find no information on this house at all considering it’s a Georgian town house construction. A local told us the owner was living in the caravan up until last year. He was offered the sum of 2 million pounds to sell the house a few years ago but the owner wanted to hold onto it for more money. As of...

I visited before the runway was ripped up twenty odd years ago. The QRA shed was intact and secure, looking through the windows of the staff room, armchairs, table, cooker all in tact. Next to it the runway lighting cabin complete with switch and control gear, cables etc, the runway lighting itself had been removed. Across the airfield one of the hanger workshops was full of batteries and charging equipment, tools etc as if left yesterday. The worst place was the Officers Mess where loads of roof tiles had been stolen and sash window frames wrecked to steal the lead counter weights. Wrecked inside. The H blocks were fenced off but looked OK. Obviously they are selected thieves and hooligans in that part of Lincolnshire!

@@kenstevens5065 that’s really sad. I grew up in a very disciplined house. Dad was X Korean War. I can’t imagine ever damaging anything I wouldn’t dare. To me when I see these iconic places it’s sad to see the destruction. My uncle was stationed at Binny in MT for a few years and lived on Kent Street. Spent many a day out there. I would have loved to have seen QRA area before it was destroyed. After it all closed we had a wonder the runway only to be chased off by dogs. Apparently even though it was closed the USA was using it. We heard them on the dad’s scanner.

Here in May 1982. Never fails to amaze me how we excel at destruction in this country now, but fail consistently to create build or inspire any more. The only thing we can build is ugliness and mediocrity! Honour is something that is never considered any more so the idea of a field of honour must seem baffling! Once, Swinderby was a place where young men who loved and cared for the next generation of Englishmen made their last contact with this once beloved island before they flew to their deaths! My Grand Father was lucky, he survived! His sense of betrayal by the subsequent generation that came along was obvious though! I wrote this on you tube once before about my Grand Father, and some body replied “Well, your Grand father was a racist then!” What ever, what ever!!! Ha!

Sadly I think this world has had it. I truly 100 percent believe this is the decline to the end again of this civilisation. Decency and respect are never to return. Only evil and escalation seem to normal now. I’m a 70s lad. My pops was Korean War lance corporal third class. He taught me right from wrong and to respect. These days have gone

Wow… I’ve just happened across this video after a trip down memory lane, and it has made me incredibly sad. I actually used to work here, and frequently stayed here, back in the early 2000s when Jeremy (the owners son who, after I knew him, ended up spiralling out of control and squatting here) was still in charge of the computer magazine I wrote for. Back then the place was in good repair, and I have many, many happy memories of my time here. I knew that Jeremy had gone off the rails after the magazine was taken away from him, and his marriage broke down (he was always a difficult character), but to see how it all ended is just… it’s so sad to see a building like this, once so glorious, reduced to rubble. I’ve slept in the bedrooms here, worked in the computer labs out the back, partied in what was once the formal ballroom / music room, and played that grand piano. I had no idea that the place had collapsed like this. At least I, and the others who once worked there in happier times, will have the memories from the place before it turned into this mess.
