3:15 My brother used to work as a testing engineer at Intel, his job was to test chips under extreme conditions and see how they degraded over time in order to create the specs they should actually be run at. He says they can tell if the CPU has been abused like that. They aren't putting them in a PC and just seeting if they post they have multi million dollar diagnostics machines where they stick the CPU in it shows the signals coming out if it (think an oscilloscope combined with a logic analyzer), they can even test it if it's non functional in a PC. It shows the waveforms of the TTL signals coming out of the chip and according to him they will show degradation (become less square and more distorted) over time if the chip is run outside temperature or voltage specs. And they can pretty much tell what was done to it based on what signals are distorted and in what way. They may or may not go to the bother of actually doing that but if they really want to they can tell.

With other words: Just buy RAM kits that will use XMP or EXPO profiles only to match the supported spec of your CPU (AMD 7000: DDR5-5200MT/s; Intel 13th & 14th gen: DDR5-5600MT/s).
Well that's the best way i guess but people like me always think the higher the better and the more it cost the better but you're right sorta i mean if you get a new cpu for example ryzen 8000 in the future i bet it has more mhz for the cpu and you can put more mhz on it so if you would wanna more you would have to pay for new 2 or 4 ram sticks 🤷🏻
For some reason stupid RUclips won't allow me to share their own video links and write a helpful caption for the audience, so check the link in reply for that overclocking policy video.
They probably void the warranty because overclocking the RAM is actually overclocking the CPU, because the memory controller is physically on the CPU and XMP or DOCP draws more voltage through that controller. I've had 1 Ryzen 3200G burn out from this. It was fine for a Ryzen 1200, two ryzen 5 2600, and a ryzen 7 1700.
In most cases I believe enabling xmp shouldn't void your warranty, however there are those insane kits that do like 4600 MHz and motherboards will throw insane voltages to the vccsa and vccio like 1.5v.
I fried my 1st not-used motherboard from overclocking. (Thought I had killed my ram, bought more... and it still didn't work) A few adventures after that... I swore off overclocking. Maybe on an old PC for fun. But if I NEED to for my daily driver/gamer... then it's time to save for anew parts.
It's like if lambo said their cars can go over 200 mph but most speed limits are way below. If someone were to ignore the speed limit and crash than it would be hard to get Lamborghini to pay the damages just because they advertised their cars could go that fast. It does make some sense. The cpu sets the speed limit and the just because the ram can go faster doesn't mean it should. So it's kinda like checking to make sure your motherboard can use a cpu, make sure your cpu can handle the max speed of the ram
Yes, it can. Because running fast memory 'over spec' (2800MHz, CL16) damaged the IMC on my 5930K. *Three times.* Three separate CPUs. Eventually the 4th RMA Intel refunded me outright and I bought a 6850K to replace it and never had a problem again. Wish we could go back to simpler times.
Imagine putting up with months or even years of random BSoDs and general instability, only to find out the problem was being caused by XMP, since your board isn't good enough to run the RAM at it's rated speed.
If don't want to watch the video, just go into your Bios, set the highest XMP, or AMP for AMD, your memory can take, save the settings, boot into your OS, and leave it alone if you are not having any stability, or heat issues, but if so lower the XMP/AMP till it's stable. For example on DDR3(Not SODIMM, or DDR3L) a lot of memory will default to 1333Mhz, or but can be OC with XMP/AMP to 1866Mhz, or 2133Mhz just fine, and in fact AMD will run better by default when the RAM is OC.

With other words:
Just buy RAM kits that will use XMP or EXPO profiles only to match the supported spec of your CPU (AMD 7000: DDR5-5200MT/s; Intel 13th & 14th gen: DDR5-5600MT/s).

I will pair the upcoming Ryzen 9 9950X with a JEDEC ECC memory kit of 2x32GB DDR5-5600MT/s CL40 @1.1V.
For some reason stupid RUclips won't allow me to share their own video links and write a helpful caption for the audience, so check the link in reply for that overclocking policy video.

my 2600k is still running @4.4Ghz on a 1867MHz XMP profile in extreme phase mode (since 2011)
Thanks for the tech tips. Oh it is nice to see him without his glasses I have seen him wear in the past. Must switched to contacts.
Whaat? So when i upgrade next year.. my ram might be slower than what the ram speed was on the store's website? hmmm.
Love the way this guy talks and his character 👍👍
They probably void the warranty because overclocking the RAM is actually overclocking the CPU, because the memory controller is physically on the CPU and XMP or DOCP draws more voltage through that controller.
I've had 1 Ryzen 3200G burn out from this. It was fine for a Ryzen 1200, two ryzen 5 2600, and a ryzen 7 1700.
i dont even understand what he’s talking about but these are fun to watch!
In most cases I believe enabling xmp shouldn't void your warranty, however there are those insane kits that do like 4600 MHz and motherboards will throw insane voltages to the vccsa and vccio like 1.5v.
3:02 "Putting too much voltage in ur RAM"
Unexperienced PC USER: *OOOH Ur Ram Square? Mine Rectangle!*
Steve tested this the other day, 5x on phone and 5x online, had no issues with xmp warranty and called it a non story.
I fried my 1st not-used motherboard from overclocking. (Thought I had killed my ram, bought more... and it still didn't work)
A few adventures after that...
A lot of these issues seems to be with people over clocking. If you want more speed just buy something faster by default
When you overclock your ram, and it's so fast that you ramm into ram

Love the Powerfull FormulanToilet Cleaner.
the burger on the right at 0:10 probably tastes waaay better than the one on the left
Not only did I just buy another ram kit, its the exact one they display at 0:12
0:10 Other than riley's hair, he really doesn't look that different mirrored. I guess he has a really symmetrical face.
Riley: Use an XMP Profile!
Me: Use an eXtreme Memory Profile Profile
I got an ad before the video started with linus in it lol
Love this Riley dude.
Very good video, thanks a lot, regards!!
