I did have a POD bean. It was great, but useless for performing as it had no footswitch built in. This new one addresses that issue. I have already recommended it to one of my band members, and might even grab one for myself at some point as a backup for my Helix, or just for practicing away from home. Amazing that you can get HX quality effects in a $180 package.

I have and still use both the POD 2.0 as well as the Bass Pod and Floorboard controller. Only use em in my home for recording, never used em live. This new one has my interest peaked.
Based on the limited information so far available on these, you CAN disable the cab emulation and use them with an amp, and you can plug in a footswitch or expression pedal for additional control. Having watched a few demos, I'm now most interested to see/hear more about those features. I came very close to buying an old POD second-hand a few months ago. I'm glad I held out. EDIT. I found the manual online: * "If connecting to an amp (or to a powered speaker that offers speaker cab simulation) you may want to set your POD Express’ Cab to “Off”-press and hold the ALT buttons and the TAP switch while turning the AMP encoder to ." * Enter the “Global Settings” and choose the corresponding “Assign” parameter for the ON (FS1), TAP (FS2), FS3, or FS4 footswitches to independently select the desired function. • Set any footswitch to switch the assigned parameter as On/Off. • A footswitch connected as FS3 or FS4 can also be assigned to control TAP Tempo or function as a Next or Previous Preset switch.
Thanks for the info. This is perfect for my travel rig. I can run this with the IR off into my Seymour Duncan Powerstage 200 and plug into the backline cab where ever I go. And I can fit ALL of it in my guitar case. WIN!!!
I think this answers my question. I have a Pod GO that I use for home recording (love it). However, I have it buried in a shelf and pretty much only control it using the Pod GO Edit on my computer (which is where my recording software is). But I recently bought an EVH 40 watt combo. But it only has reverb. Logic would say to just use the Pod GO for effects. But I have it all wired up and have an A/B switch to go between the the Pod GO and the amp. So basically I'm looking for a tiny multi-fx pedal to use when I'm using the EVH. Either for recording directly with the XLR jack or if I take it to jam or gig. So if I'm reading this correctly, this is what you are describing above. That it will bypass the amps on the pedal & simply be an effects pedal?
This was a great demo. I had the original Pod back in ~2000 when I bought my first electric. It was so much fun to have all those sounds to play around with while learning. This little box is amazing, thanks for the thorough review and demo of all the sounds and features. I've moved on to playing bass more exclusively and am very interested in the Bass version ... it's hard not to impluse buy for < $200!
Yes, it will sell a lot and I think they've worked miracles with the UI on such a small unit, but I'm thinking that a lot of people who buy it won't actually use it much. It would be great for a novice and I like the fact that you can turn off the amp emulation but most guitarists would have these functions covered.
Amazing product and value !! What a brilliant design, imagine having this when you were 19 y/o, no money and taking the bus to practice; and this delivers pro quality tones, ain't no 90's Zoom pedal, LOL. Answering your question, yes, I have an old bass POD rack that I still use every time for home recording.
Come on ...I still have with me today the first ever POD item with a massive rotary knob and the first POD Bean (stuff for collectors I guess) which were truly great in mid 90' when they came out. After some 30 years here we go again with something intriguing ....worth of a closer look :-) well done.

Just received the pedal from Sweetwater, plugged it in and played through headphones, and I love it. These things are subjective, of course, but the sound and ease of use are so awesome (for my use case) that it’s instantly sent everything else I’ve used to record direct (e.g., Boss IR-2, DSM Simplifier, Thermion Zero) to the storage shelf. Will fire up the bass unit later his afternoon.
@@isaacdust Me too! My only wish is that I could assign the ‘on’ switch to turn on the delay and also increase the output level to use as a clean will boost with delay for solos. Otherwise it’s great!
Great presentation, big thanks to both of you! Included amp models are based on the Fender Princeton (best clean model in the Helix imho), the Matchless Dc30 (Vox-Style) and my personal favourite, the Friedman BE 100. For Metalheads there is a model based on the Peavey 5150. What more do you need? I think I will probably buy one😁.
Take a DI-Box, boom, XLR Out you have. It's not that hard! 🙂 I rather have stereo outs than an XLR - gotta make sure the footprint works out, and XLRs are huge.
Yes Line 6 has done it again!! Been getting tired of lugging my trusty HD500 pedal to band rehearsals and this is just the ticket to do the job. Hate to say if you need more than this to sound good, I hear U2 is looking for a new guitarist. 😂
Great demo covers the basics nicely thanks. In the manual an external footswitch can be set to control Delay, but it isn't clear if it can it control the looper on the Delay knob? If not this is the one drawback as looper on an external switch is a must.
I love the Helix stuff, the Pod go is awesome, this new Pod Express is just as great and I will buy one, but Line 6 need to make a GOOD portable amp that sounds good. I tried the Boss and Yamaha stuff and I sent both back. I prefer using the Helix thru studio monitors.
Yeah I can hook it up to a Poweramp split it out with a couple of cabs but I sure would like to be able to go to the parameters without having manually changing the effects all the time will it do that question mark. thanks let me know
Hi, GrimyRen. The cab sims can’t be bypassed for just a single output. For that capability, you’d likely want to step up to something like the HX Stomp. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Question - I saw at the end of the video this could be used as an effects box without the cab sims. Could this then plug directly into an amp that doesn't have an effects loop built in - like a Tone Master, for instance - and still be usable? The pre-amp effects makes sense to me (gain, distortion), but not the typical post amp effects (chorus, reverb). Will it become a jumbled mess at some point?
Hi, mpactdesignmedia. Yes, this could be used like a standard effects pedal in front of an amp. As long as an amp is running clean, the effects loop isn’t really necessary. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
I've got one question: does TAP button controll also DELAY time? What happens when you use DELAY and CHORUS simultaneously, is it possible to controll these effects independently?
Hi, jacekklimkiewicz4898. The Tap button does control the delay time as well. Both modulation and delay effects will sync to that tempo. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Hi, two_legit1832! Thanks for your question. Yes, the POD Express output can be connected to the return of an amp. As with any effect, adjust the effects and controls to obtain your desired tone. The amps and cabs can be bypassed should you want to use the unit for effects only. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Robert Williams, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 2371, robert_williams@sweetwater.com
Hi, tubularbill. This can be used in front of an amp as well. If you do that, you’ll just want to turn off the amp/cab modeling. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
I’ve been wanting a second small amp cause I have two Orange 1x8 cabs, but the problem is this has stereo outputs. I still want my pedalboard, but it complicates things cause I could run stereo in two different ways.
Hi, Nicky-T. The modulation rates can be controlled from the tap tempo footswitch, or from the Modulation control knob. When you’re under a specific effect, turning the knob further clockwise will increase the intensity of the effect. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
@@sweetwater Thanks for the answer. My confusion still remains to some extent. I would expect (and from what I hear in the demo),is for the INTENSITY to be affected by the control rotation, not the RATE. So I would expect the MIX to be affected by the rotation of the control. At any rate (lol), good to know that the rate is controllable.
Hello, DTension! You can run the mono out to an FRFR without a problem when the cab sim is turned off. That said, when going to an FRFR the cab sim being turned on is going to sound much better. @@rrmusic4038 If you’re using headphones or earbuds connected to the POD for monitoring, the only choice is to connect everything before. If not and your pedal is a drive or modulation type, then it’s preferable to place before the POD. Longer time based pedals (delay, reverb) are likely placed after. Not knowing what pedal(s) you have and how you amplify your POD makes it hard to be absolute. Hey, FransvandenBergeMuziekschuur! That’s a great question, it’s not specifically mentioned in the manual and it doesn’t look like you can independently control whether the headphone out is a wet or dry signal, but the headphone is supposed to monitor all playback if it’s used as an interface, so if you are using outputs 3 and 4 via USB to get a dry signal out, the routing on the headphone should follow the DAW. I hope this helps! Connor Smith, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1793, connor_smith@sweetwater.com
That would mean you can use the distortion and all that seperately from reverb, delay at that sort of things. It really is alot to ask from a lowly priced amazing do it all box at this price point. Thank you for being awesome . @@sweetwater

Ok, is it just me or does thing thing sound great!!!
And for around 180 bucks!
Wow!
Good amp choices in this
I didn't get that bit at the end, what's the amp models technology based upon? old pod, HD, hx, helix, pod go?
Not a fan of the amp tones but I would use the effects and the stereo outs. The tuner is good too
Too good to be true
Definitely getting one
I can remember when Line 6 was a new-ish company, many considered their stuff cheap garbage. They’ve really come a long way.
Yeah I can hook it up to a Poweramp split it out with a couple of cabs but I sure would like to be able to go to the parameters without having manually changing the effects all the time will it do that question mark. thanks let me know
Can you bypass the cabs on the right output? So left out would go to FoH and right out to a poweramp to have a cab on stage?
Hi, GrimyRen. The cab sims can’t be bypassed for just a single output. For that capability, you’d likely want to step up to something like the HX Stomp.

Hopefully can set clean with some Reverb and some delay and then use those buttons to kick in some mods and distortions like a 2-channel amp?.
Does it have the exact same modeling and effects as the helix?
That looks ridiculous ! Genius.

Merci super 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wheres the Helix 2?... Im still waiting for that one?
Absolutely love it!!!!!
Awesome Pedal- love it
I've got one question: does TAP button controll also DELAY time? What happens when you use DELAY and CHORUS simultaneously, is it possible to controll these effects independently?
Hi, jacekklimkiewicz4898. The Tap button does control the delay time as well. Both modulation and delay effects will sync to that tempo.

Can this be used with an amp via the FX loop?
Hi, two_legit1832! Thanks for your question. Yes, the POD Express output can be connected to the return of an amp. As with any effect, adjust the effects and controls to obtain your desired tone. The amps and cabs can be bypassed should you want to use the unit for effects only.

Can this go directly into an amp or just into a board/PA?
Hi, tubularbill. This can be used in front of an amp as well. If you do that, you’ll just want to turn off the amp/cab modeling.

I’ve been wanting a second small amp cause I have two Orange 1x8 cabs, but the problem is this has stereo outputs. I still want my pedalboard, but it complicates things cause I could run stereo in two different ways.
Wondering how to vary the rate of the modulation effects - is that done with the tap tempo? Or is it only the preset value?
Hi, Nicky-T. The modulation rates can be controlled from the tap tempo footswitch, or from the Modulation control knob. When you’re under a specific effect, turning the knob further clockwise will increase the intensity of the effect.

Does anyone know if that mono out, when the cab sim is turned off, is basically a line out that can go into an FRFR?
Hello, DTension! You can run the mono out to an FRFR without a problem when the cab sim is turned off. That said, when going to an FRFR the cab sim being turned on is going to sound much better. Give us a ring and we can discuss in more depth!

Can you recommend this for Live gigs?
Hi, jonathancalimpitan524! Thanks for your message, hope you’re well and safe. From a sound quality perspective, the POD Express is from the same family as the Helix and HX products. Great sound for studio or live. As far as your needs in live situation, I can’t tell via your question if you need multiple presets, to turn on and off effects, etc. Those functions require external switching, still doable however not as easy as the more sophisticated products.

Ok this is pretty awesome!!! And a great price!!
Still using the original Pod, but adding a simple looper to it sounds attractive...
I am so sold.
Can we assign multiple analog guitar pedals with pod express guitar
Hi, rrmusic4038! Good question. You can absolutely use pedals you have now with the POD Express. Plug into them as you usually do and then into the POD.

@@sweetwater Thanks a lot for the reply...In the pod Express Guitar since there is one input, two outputs and a foot switch...can you please help me in which point should I plugin my analog pedal

Why do I love this and hate it at the same time? 😎🎸
Because it is pod.
@@mooseymoose 😆
It looks to me like the same effects processor that is on the YamahaTHR30ii which I have. I am looking for something to run in conjunction with my Yamaha. Anyone have any suggestions?
One thing I dont like is that Line 6 dont let you know what resolution this thing uses. Ive looked at the manual and website. No spec info, Why?
Can you get a good acoustic guitar sound from the clean channel?
Hi, AckoustixBand! Thanks for your question. In my opinion, yes! While there are no acoustic specific algorithms in the PODExpress, there are several effect options to help shape your sound.

Can I send dry to the headphones? And wet stereo to left and right?
Hey, FransvandenBergeMuziekschuur! That’s a great question, it’s not specifically mentioned in the manual and it doesn’t look like you can independently control whether the headphone out is a wet or dry signal, but the headphone is supposed to monitor all playback if it’s used as an interface, so if you are using outputs 3 and 4 via USB to get a dry signal out, the routing on the headphone should follow the DAW.
I hope this helps!

That would mean you can use the distortion and all that seperately from reverb, delay at that sort of things. It really is alot to ask from a lowly priced amazing do it all box at this price point. Thank you for being awesome . @@sweetwater
