- We were excited to visit Pniёl in the Western Cape, not only because of its incredible history but also because it marks our 500th video. After spending a longer time at home between trips than usual, we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the fascinating places in Pniёl and meeting the amazing people there. The beautiful location of the village, which is surrounded by the magnificent Simonsberg and Groot Drakenstein mountains, along with its historic church and the nearby Wine Route, make it a truly remarkable destination. We are so glad we chose to visit Pniёl. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #pniel

My dad grew up in Pniel. My dad and family were members of the congregational church. I have fond memories of visiting my late grandparents. We moved to Johannesburg in the 70's but always thought of Pniel as home. The river was the high light
Greetings! Nice to be back on the road again. What a quaint little hamlet Pniel is, serenely tucked away between those majestic mountain ranges. Your drone footage gave the perfect overall birds-eye view of the village. Thanks for stop.
What a peaceful place!
Hi guys it was worth the wait these small South African towns never fail to amaze me lovely tranquil vibe stunning background of the mountains I can imagine how happy the slaves were to be able to settle there .loved the story about the guy with wine in his bag 😅 loved the drone footage such a beautiful place .you mentioned Paarl pale I remember how cheap it was 50 cents for a massive bottle crazy. For only the second time I noticed the concrete wagon wheel fence.!!! .I found the church simple and serine the guys were really friendly and what a history Mr November has . Sonia was right about boules also known as petanque they do a kind of throw with an under wrist action!!! . Sports fields topnotch as I have come to expect in SA. Only in South Africa can you meet the local snake catcher and what a story loved the museum the slave list was intriguing coming from so many different places. I have got to mention the fox fur stoles my granny used to have one. The blue skies warmed me up on a cold day in spring in kent. Thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one
Welcome back Sonja and Curtis. I have never clicked on something so fast. Those trees and mountains are stunning. Thanks for taking us on this journey with you. Safe travels.❤
❤
Hi Ingeborg! Leuk om weer zaam te toer!
Wow nice to see the church again .as I visited it 3 times before,I happen to be a congregationlist
Now there's another one of those villages that gives one hope for the future. A really impressive little town. Beautiful, too.
Hello hello hellooo, Pniel is a Lovely little town ❤ Love the trees, so colourful!! That mountain is so outstanding 😊 than you again, was a great trip 🎉
I am close to tears! 😢❤ this was such a beautiful video and a reminder how blessed we are as a community. Thank you for making me realise again how beautiful our town is. Great video. I need to find out now who was uncle Klasie van Graan because we share the same surname! Thank you for this!
Sometimes when I watch your videos, it takes me back to walking around, sitting, driving there and I can almost smell the air of those small towns. Leaves, flowers, soil, fynbos. Fresh natural pleasant and earthy. Good exploration of the historic details of these places, too. Well done.
Yeh. I am so glad you are back.
My town, born here...now raising my family here 🥰🥰
Sonja and Curtis welcome back, what a nice place without any liquor outlets, the best place to raise kids, and wow wow the beauty of the mountains and you look refreshed hope Sonja is refreshed too, love you both.
Welcome back you two! This is a really fascinating trip. A beautiful place, steeped in history and culture and surrounded by those spectacular rocks. Peaceful, clearly most accommodating for the people living there. Thank you for taking me there. I'm so glad you're back. Ready for the next trip.

Yes Pniel what a beautiful place it is.We use to give day outings many years ago with our soccer club(ALSTON PARK-GRASSY PARK) to a beeatifull private place called WATERWAYS with a beautifull river flowing where we just enjoyed the beautifull and peacefull enclosure, braaing, music and great vibes with our wonderfull supporters.Awesome times in that beautifull place❤
Stunning 🤩 mountains ⛰️
Pinelands also have a bylaw that liquor may not be sold. No bottle stores in Pinelands.
My late husband Gregory Rose was born and is now buried in this beautiful town!
Pniël is beautiful; thanks for sharing your visit.
I was not aware of the biblical origin of the name.
"He called the name of the place face of El, for I have seen Elohim face to face." ( Genesis 32:30 ) .
That origin suggests three syllables Pe Ni El
The deelteken ë also implies that i and ë are in separate syllables. ❤️
Hello Hello Hello, 😁 what a stunning video this was a lot of history too, thanks for taking us once again on this amazing journey with you, and congrats for 500 videos milestone, many more to come.😇 Cant wait for the next video looking forward.
Hi there, my wife and I have watched several of your videos. You have inspired us to take a three week road trip from Roodepoort to the West Coast and other parts of the Western Cape. Thanks, keep up the videos ❤

Loved Pniel.!Thank you.
❤ having u back🎉
Wow, amazing scenery! As a linguist, I'm happy that you've spent some time finding out and explaining how Pniel is pronounced. I also appreciate the etymology of the name and never knew that it was linked to Penuel in the Bible. The 1st time we drove through this town was back in the mid 80s when I was 10 years old and I feel very ashamed now for pronouncing the name without the n (you know what that means in Afrikaans)!
Welcome back👏
U have not been to newcastle yet ... we would love to see a videon of newcastle kzn
Welcome back. First off that ok express makes the best date loaf I have ever tasted outside my kitchen....lol THIS town is for me an absolute gem of a place. Everywhere you look is beauty...and I saw the squirrel 😂😂❤🎉🎉
The drone footage in this video was stunning Curtis. Just thought I'd mention it. The colors and those mountains. Not called the fairest cape for no reason 🎉🎉❤❤🎉🎉
Baie dankie my vriende , ek soos altyd dankbaar.......
Do you have a link where we can also see your interactive map where you travelled? Would be nice to click on a place and it takes you directly to the video!
That's a fantastic idea, but a whole lot of work, which I hope to get to one day. 🚙😁 As of yet, I've managed to create the Playlists per province and per trip. Thank you for watching!
Paradise...South Africa 😊❤😊!!!Im Proud as Hell❤😊❤!!!

m saa
Ek geniet julle videos so baie!
Grootdrakenstein mountain Correction. My beautifull hometown.
Thank you for this beautiful video. The Ubuntu monument have 4 sections. The top rock comes from Simonsberg and bottom from Robbin Island. The chuckles are open and stands on Africa and the earth (circle) around it.
The meaning behind the name Pniel places the emphasis on God (El) P-ni-el
Wow what a beautiful place. I am finally on your last trip. Took me a jolly good time to work through al the trips. My opinion is that the pronunciation is as per Mark's comment, "@marckdan2508 I grew up with it known as P-nieel (Pee-nie-hel)" Reason being of the ë. I may be totally wrong. I love the fact that no liquor is sold in the town. For interest sake, how far is the next town (how far do residents have to drive to buy alcohol?)
The residents of Pniël don't have to travel far at all if they're in the mood for some alcoholic refreshments. Stellenbosch is only 12km away and Franschhoek not much further at only about 19km in the opposite direction. And, as a bonus, there is some beautiful scenery along the way! 🚙😁
We pronounce it pin yal
Squirrel at 18:52 😀

I enjoyed visiting Pniel.......P..Niel. I have passed through there 100's of times and never explored it. Thanks for taking us along. Once again, the Bible Verses quoted tells one alot about the folks that lived/live there. Loved Sonia's explanation about the surnames.
pniel of the bible, South Africa is the holy land, tons of biblical places there
Thank you for finding us these hidden gems. I was totally blown away by everything.❤

Good to see your Drone up again, Curtis. Welcome back! There are a number of travel blogs available these days, but not one as good as yours for interest and entertainment. Keep up the good work.

hi ! Sonja and Curtis , from Australia ,Ron and l are recently married we are in our later years, Ron was born in Cape Town ,Pniel was considered his second home when he was growing up ,as his dad was part owner of a farm in the area, even shared with me what pew he sat in church and brought back vivid memories for him, every night we try and watch a episode of your travels ,we just loved Kruger National Park, keep up the good work ,stay safe regards Ron and Pamela
according to Google - Petanque (pronounced Pay TONK) and Boule (pronounced BOOL) are the same game
Psalm 125 vers 2
Rondom Jerusalem is berge, so is die HERE rondom sy volk van nou af tot in ewigheid.
500 videos. Great achievement!
Have never heard of Pniel until now. A beautiful town and well worth a visit. We'll add it to our bucket list for our next adventure in SA! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for this video! That was my first visit to Pniel 🙂
Fantastic first visit. What a beautiful town! I try to promote your channel as much as I can as all South Africans need to see our beautiful country and appreciate your contribution to it's beauty despite the lack of care, respect and maintenance over the last 30 years.
Wow but this place has grown! Everyone wants to come live here and who can blame them. Looking very agtermekaar, very beautiful and well maintained. A real heartbeat of culture. The church is so beautiful, and thanks for all the interesting information,. Good to see you guys behind the wheel again. My place on your back seat is definitely booked ❤❤❤
Pniël has the knockout combination of incredible natural beauty, a rich heritage and the friendliest folks one can ever hope to meet. It was an absolute joy to visit and I'm so glad you enjoyed it with us. 🚙⛰️
Well hello there and welcome back. What a beautiful little town Pniel turned out to be. You could not ask for a better backdrop than those mountains. Surnames named after the months of the year the slaves arrived at the Cape, like "November " are very interesting. Many of the Coloured workers who worked on our farm at Hansmoeskraal had names such as "Herbert Squash ", Stock Jantjies " ' " Jan Slapslaai " ensovoorts. I bet Curtis was hanging out for a nice cold beer in Pniel.😂🍺Apparently the suburb of Pinelands also prohibits any liquor outlets. Looking forward to following you on this next journey. Now I can get my weekly fix again.
❤🍉
On the road again 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Had my wedding reception in the churches hall, beautiful place.
My town. Thanx for visiting
Nou verlang ek darem terug na my plek.
My husband and I love your videos Curtis and Sonia. We would just like to put a face to your voice Sonia 🙏 You 2 have become part of our evenings, sitting cozy in front of the Tellie watching your travels. Thx for all the interesting info as well 👍 and love your meal times too. Cheers to many more travels. Maybe we can even meet up in The Kruger one year 😊
I'm so glad to hear you enjoy our videos so much. 🚙😊 Sonia explains in her own words in Episode 480 why she doesn't like being filmed, in case you haven't seen it yet. 🥰 Kruger is the best place on earth!
I grew up with it known as P-nieel (Pee-nie-hel)
How fitting to have Ricky's Drift, described as paradise on earth, sponsor this episode on the village of Pniel. I was enjoying their plum jam and have a bottle of their olives, all thanks to your episode and showcasing that beautiful place...You couldn't have chose a better day to showcase Pniel. I drive through it often and have never stopped by, its interesting to see what we miss along the way to our destination. A great 500th video and congratulations on your 32K subs..😊
Baie bly om julle weer te sien. Wat n oulike plek
