We need more men like Dr. D in this world! Not only is he extremely relatable, knowledgeable, and provides great advice, but he possesses a level of deep empathy and compassion that is hard to find in people, even in his field of work. He treats everyone like a dear friend and that skill of being truly genuine can’t be taught.
2nd call was hard to listen to. I once witnessed an accident. The guy’s head smashed and lodged into the windshield. He died instantly. His kids were in the backseat. They survived. I didn’t know this family and it traumatized me. I literally couldn’t breathe when it happened. The image of his head in the windshield is etched into my memory. There are things you never get over. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to know it’s your family in the car. I don’t know how we have the mechanisms to survive trauma as severe as that. It must be a lifelong battle.
I'm choking up trying to even fathom how traumatic this was for her watching her world (possibly) shatter in slow mo that day. Thank goodness everyone is ok. John's explanation of what's mentally happening and how to deal with it was amazing. (25:08)
Jefferson out here like a BOSS, speaking wisdom and standing up for decency and deescalation and live and let live! This is why we love him. Thanks for having him on!
Just kind of fell into this program in my algorithm, and now I'm a pretty avid listener. It's nice to have some fresh ideas to deal with old, reoccurring problems.
To the second caller Lynne: Try looking for an EMDR certified therapist in your area. They can help you reprocess the accident. I was in a car accident last year and was struggling to get back on the road. I kept hearing the noises in my head and was terrified it would happen again. My therapist at the time did a session with me and it helped so much. I don’t hear those horrific noises every time I get in the car now, and I've even been able to drive on the road where it happened. Wishing you and your family the best 💙
I wrecked my mom's car with her and my sister in it when I was 15 1/2. I spent years playing the what if game and I could still hear the crash. I wish my parents would have taken me to therapy. Even though everyone was ok with no injuries the what ifs and the sound haunted me forever.
FYI untreated SLE (lupus) can often be misdiagnosed as schizophrenia and other mental disorders and can take a very long time to diagnose properly. Scary stuff.
Yes I've seen this in my Lupus support groups. Especially true when flare ups can feel like your body is literally on fire and you describe it to someone.
Interesting. I’ve suspected I have lupus because I’ve had rosacea on my face in the butterfly pattern. I’ve had many other symptoms like randomly feeling sick when I don’t actually have a cold/flu bug. My mental health isn’t great either.
@mamadoom9724 I have Rosacea too and the flare ups made my Lupus diagnosis hard to determine. It took 2 years 4 ANA tests and several specialists to get a diagnosis and treatment. Pay attention to your body.
Did anyone notice in the second call it sounded like she was trying to say something about her husband? Like the accident changed him and their marriage is either on the rocks or over. When she started out she said “my husb- his dad,” then she kept saying “mmm” or “uh” when he came up. She also said “it changes a person” …she seemed really uncomfortable whenever he mentioned her husband. I wish Dr. John would’ve pursued that. anyone else?
Good observation! I noticed the "it changes a person" comment but I brushed it aside because I thought he's probably just still traumatized but yeah maybe there's more going on there
In my opinion it's more of a disassociation. My father was hit by an 18 wheeler on his way to work when I was 3 my older siblings were 5 & 7, and my mother 6 months pregnant she was a stay at home mom in was the 90s. My father needed multiple surgeries for his broken back, but he made it to see my little brothers birth and he was born with an umbilical cord around his neck- my little brother flatlined and was brought back. It re- traumatized both my parents. Of course they weren't the same, so I think that's what the caller is saying. The trauma is fresh for all of them My father refused pain killers and worked while having a broken back. My mother was angry at him, she'd tell him all the time you survived only to live in pain everyday and your children (not our children) are seeing this. She left when I was 12, it was too much to know she almost had to raise 4 children alone. I didn't drive until I was 25 and I didn't witness my dad's accident my older brother took me to a theme park and we rode every roller coaster he said & made me open my eyes on every descent of a ride before he taught me to drive. I took my first solo road trip a year later. My father was so scared he had me film a video for my son just in case. When I came home he told me he was scared but was proud of my bravery. I still avoid the freeways whenever possible, but that's a good idea in Texas anyway. My dad is in his 60s and even has a great grand child turning one next week. What the caller is really asking is if she should go to therapy and she should. She brings up her roles as a mom & parent because it's easier to deflect from her own shock & pain.
One thing about the first caller… psychiatric medication withdrawals are 90% of the time prolonged and absolutely horrific, so the withdrawal could appear like a mental illness even though it’s simply an effect of the drug.
Good on the mom for helping her son with this anxiety NOW, my parents didnt help me at 15 and I was in the car. They watched me spiral and now Im 37 and still dont want to get in the car. Luckily his brain is so plastic as a child. Take him to therapy, CBT, do EMDR, teach him to drive early, take him Go Karting.
My dad was pcitofrinic diagnosed 6 months before I was born. He did a lot of drugs before and after. Growing up I was worried about me having it but I'm 33 with 3 kids and I'm fine bar chronic anxiety lol. He was my best friend and rhe kindest man I knew but very lonely I tried to be there but not many other people did. His life was really heartbreaking. I hope people start to support people going though this more.
My oldest adult child has schizoid affective disorder and her sister does not have it. There is a two year age difference. My suggestion is for your wife to go to counseling, it will help. It's tough for the family but there is hope. My oldest is on medication that helps and has a boyfriend and is living life and she's doing well. She doesn't stop taking her medicine but I know a lot of people do and it is really heartbreaking. When the sister is doing her best your wife and yourself should talk to her about taking the meds and what happens to her when she doesn't. Ask her what she feels like on them and encourage her to talk to her psychiatrist. Taking her meds keeps her out of the mental health hospital so tell her that again and again🙏🙏 My prayers are with your family.
I was taught at a young age, to believe None of what you hear and only Half of what you see! Tried to instill that in my own children. And my parents also asked me “were you there?” lol that brought a smile out , hearing Jefferson say that. So many parents today don’t teach their children about the Bible, much less God! When you stop worshipping, other things change in you. As weak and fallible humans are, we NEED GOD. Even if it’s teaching your child basic morals. But the further you are from God, the colder your heart becomes and the less love you have in your heart.
I am only 5 minutes in but I want to give advice to the caller and anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation. Look into NAMI Family-to-Family. It is a free, 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. I took this class maybe 7-8 years ago. It really gave me perspective.
Yeah, my mother got diagnosed schizophrenia when I was about 8, she was 27. She had a minor head concussion and it turned into full blown REALLY BAD Schizophrenia. In and out of Mental institutions, Group Homes…. I am 57 years old. My whole life, friends, family and just anyone would “toss” that diagnosis around if I had a bad PMS EPISODE… It was so unfair growing up with a crazy mother yet all eyes on me betting I was crazy too! I’m highly successful and have a Happy life. But, I worry about that “gene” will pop up somewhere in my Grandchildren. It’s very frightening…
Wow, my mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia when I was born. She used to run away and live homeless. I understand, in and out of mental hospitals and they just made her worse. NAMI groups told me it’s rare to have a mom with schizophrenia, it usually rears it’s head in teenage years. I could see the sadness and lack of affect expression in her face in pictures of her youth. It’s a signature look that’s common to people with schizophrenia.
@@redeemed8988 We both probably have lived a life that most people can’t even imagine with Mothers who have Schizophrenia. I know the “look” you’re describing. My Mother’s eyes would have this stare that wasn’t connected with this world. She kept running away too… we lived in like 8 different places, including a Battered wife-shelter. Even a Hotel room in California, for a year. Yes, most people are diagnosed in late teen years. It’s so so sad because my Mother was very intelligent, played the Piano and got her Associates Degree. She was totally fine until she hit her head in a car accident. I’m so sorry for you. It’s a terrible experience for everyone involved with a Schizophrenic Parent …
@@Rhond5 My mom was really intelligent too, she was known for being studious and reading and writing and would have been so successful. Bouncing around like that must have been so destabilizing. I worked for a Child Psychiatrist along time ago and he said children of schizophrenic parents are highly adaptable. I’m glad to know you made it out thriving and with success in life. I understand the stigma around it, I’m sorry people would toss that diagnosis around, I can relate. The fear didn’t leave me until I hit about 30. I’m glad to know you made it, I’m glad to hear your story and to know we’re not alone in this. My mom taught me long suffering in a way I don’t think I ever could have if I didn’t witness her enduring her sickness.
*People Pleasers* Love this topic! I stopped this after 45 years of working. It was so exhausting. I was always a Yes person. If someone hurt my feelings or became too demanding I just sucked it up hoping that one day I would be done, done, done.
I'm curious if the sister isn't going thru what I did in my 40's. In and out of psychosis for about 5 years. I was not med compliant until year 5. Psychosis can be caused by many things, one of which is THC (weed). There is a great book called I'm not sick, I don't need help if the sister is not med compliant. I've been off all meds and doing just fine now for about 4 years. There is hope!!
I've had a primary Depression diagnosis since I was 8 or so. Medicated for around 35 years. I've been on every anti depressant, some antipsychotics and every combination of them. The best response was to eliminate my suicidal drive. Over one week last month my diagnosis was changed to Bi Polar 2. Almost one month in on the new meds and I'm better than I've ever been as an adult.
I did this by myself, after my mother had attacked me, she was accusing of being crazy and on the wrong meds while choking my me. The irony. I told myself “yeah? Well ok, game on B”. I will do what I know you will never have the courage to do and willingly, cause I’m a responsible adult. So I went. grateful for the opportunit, thinking that if I have something, then great, I’m all in, let’s go, there’s so much better treatments nowadays, it’s ok, I’m ok with that, I’ll% comply. Being the mother and only same parent of 2 boys, they really needed and deserve a healthy mom, that’s all that matters to me. Get better. Turns out, I got diagnosed with PTSD. It was an experience, but I’m glad I took her on it. It’ll go to court. I have a psych exam, she doesn’t. I had filed a declaration right after it happened, I didn’t know what else to do, where to go, I couldn’t drive far, I didn’t need 911, so I drove to the nearest police station. Another trace 😊
I have a friend that just got diagnosed with schizophrenia in he 40's. Her case is more mild. She said she hers sounds like a radio always playing in the background.
Stress depletes certain VITAMINS & MINERALS , so do meds, up those & it's VERY VERY HELPFUL. Difference between functional coping & failure in our household 💥🙏👍
😢😢😢 SZA at 40!!!! Mayor mental health issue!!! My heart goes out to them. Genetics is probabilities, nothing is written in stone. At this point almost 0% going to happen to his wife. One thing at a time dude❤❤❤
I was in a car accident with my husband and my baby boy. We rolled 3 times because of black ice. I live in northern utah and mountains and ice still scare me 18 years later.. some fears dont leave all the way, but u have to get back on the horse and keep riding!
Matching sweat sets are super in style right now! I’ve worn my lime green matching hoodie and sweatpants in public many times! Pair them with some cool sneakers and a dangling pair of earrings and it’s “classy” lounge wear 😂
Schizophrenics are notorious for not being med compliant. I am more scared of that diagnosis than cancer. Its a truly horrible thing to live with or be a family member.
This. I had a distant family member that didn’t take meds. When on them they were fine apparently but when off could be dangerous. Not many memories of this relative. No hard feelings- just didn’t get the help they needed early on and had trouble being consistent with the meds.
This hit alittle close to home. It wasnt a car accident but my trauma comes from my daughters birth. She had a critical heart defect that went undetected for 24 hours after she was born and it went from being happy to my newborning in an extremely critical condition. The hosbital she needed was 1.5 hrs away and they needed a helicoper asap but they were all busy. It was so stressful and traumatic. Thankfully one was able to get her after they dropped off someone else. They discharged me and we grabbed our things and took off to the childrens hospital. It was a whirlwind and we had 2 other kids to find places for as well. Ever since i have medical anxiety where i think the worst in every illness and panic. I will say i do a decent job on not passing that to my kids. I keep my panic inside. Thankfully my daughter is now 7 and doing great. She had a ballon procedure the moring after we got to the childrens hosbital then another at 11 weeks old which got us to 8 months until Open heart surgery. They did something called the Ross procedure where they tool her pulmonary valve and moved it to her aortic position and pit a donor on the pulmonary spot. Her donor will need replaced as she grows ,we are hoping for a couple more years on the one she currently has before replacing.
Schizophrenia diagnosis in women coming later in life can actually be common. Symptoms coming right after or before menopause or after pregnancy is frequently a trigger. Women tend to get symptomati later than men. Not to say it is a rule but it is a trend.
@@Plooky1969 I figured as much. When the caller said "there were other issues going back" I immediately thought "a history of drug use" will be the other issues. Nothing else makes sense, it wouldn't go undiagnosed for so long.
You are truly a great specialist after watching your show heartily by listening to people’s issues and commenting I felt physically exhausted. Even when this is only virtual I still experienced same stages of emotional turmoil as I am at my job. God bless you for the work you do it is not easy. Takes a toll on your physical and mental state. Professionals such as therapists, counselors, social workers, etc.. need to know self care is vital aspect of their lives. Need to stop watching this show.
RE: the second call. I think Dr John is right on the money. When I was 5 I was attacked and bitten in the head by a German shepherd. Hospital visit and many stitches. The VERY NEXT DAY my parents took me to go see puppies. They started right away with exposing me to the very things that traumatized me.
When I was a child, possibly 10, my grandma was going about 25 miles an hour and she turned about to yell at my siblings for fighting (I was in the front seat) she looked forward to late and hit the back of a boat. We were all physically okay and I don't think initially the fear set it. But after I wasn't able to sit in the front. I wasn't able to be in the car for so long without having panic. It's sad that my family didn't seek therapy for me at a young age. It's likely the reason I never wanted to learn to drive. It's also part of the reason I didn't get my license until I was 23. Trauma that happens to us as children or adolescent/teens it can form us in ways we don't even realize. So if your child experiences a trauma, have them go therapy. This is just my experience and my opinion.
To be fair, offering kids therapy is a much newer thing. Child psychology, child psychiatrists were rare and focused on major issues like autism, and major dusirds like ODD, etc. Older generations didnt t think childhood " minor" events would affect kids forever. On a family trip long ago, I was 9, my sis was 12, and we had an infant sister too. Dad was driving, mom caring for Lil sis. We got rerouted off a secondary highway due to an accident. We were stuck in traffic, Dad watching the road, mom fussing with baby, my Sister and I had a clear view of the accident scene, and there were 2 adult bodies covered in sheets on the ground, and a fully uniformed nurse holding a small baby in her arms in a bloody blanket, beside an old style ambulance. It bothered my sis and I a lot. My mother pooh poohed it. sis didn't get her license until she was married. I got mine at 18, but didn't want to. Parents didn't see what we saw, so they didn't get what distressed us. So we fell silent about it. Therapy dudnt exist, and I finally got to talk about it in my late 20s in therapy. Listening to our concerns and reassuring us after the event we would have fared better.
John, for you to diss the jogging/sweat suit was alarming but I agree. To call it a onesie is heartbreaking. I’m the queen of the jumpsuit clan. I always match. I never need to think of what to wear with my pants. I never have plumbers butt. I have roughly 10 scrub jumpsuits to wear to work in healthcare and over 20 for the gym. I even have an elegant one for banquets. I am the onesie and my life is less anxious because of it.
Some women have late onset schizophrenia that is triggered at menopause. These women become menopausal earlier than most women, in their mid-40’s on average. I’ve experienced this in my family
Hey everybody, if we get together to down vote these scam investment posts, maybe we can combat the bot-likes and push them down. Maybe I’m being naive about how it all works; I just want to save the truly naive from falling for them-and some do.
Yup. Just saw a news report where a guy lost his entire retirement fund after 30 years of saving. They call it pig butchering. Fatten the pig up……. Invest $1000, get official looking paperwork that investment is now $1500 after 3 weeks. Wow! Go take out $5000, worth $7000 in a month…… then $50 000, $100 000 until it’s all gone. The poor pig is so thrilled to have moved their $400 000 life savings into a million dollar ‘investment.’
Wow. Scam? I thought I could make 10 million a week with a 3 dollar 50 cent investment if I contact sherry Davey Tommy Sally macgillicuddy. Back to the drawing board I guess
It’s worth trying for sure, I love the idea. But John delony is tied to the Ramsey name, and personal finance RUclips videos are the highest paying for RUclips ad revenue, so they will always be a high profile scam target
@@Dark_Souls_3 This is true. That's why all I would do is just a quick click on the thumbs down button, only on the original post, of course. If just one-twentieth of the listeners did it, it might make a difference, until they think up a way to get around it.
Just hit the three dots by the comment that looks kinda like : and it will let you report them as spam. I report every one of them I see because they seem dumb but there are always people out there who will fall for them 🤦🏻♀️
Why does the second caller keep saying they “got” witness the accident. It may mean nothing but it’s such a strange way to say that. It makes it sound like it was a good thing! Haha. Maybe just a local dialectical sort of thing but I found it odd.
Dr Delony, “Wow, she’s 40 and just being diagnosed with schizophrenia now????” Ummm, YES!!!!! Why is this such a surprise when millions of people go without basic health care in this country let alone mental health care. I think you’re a very smart person, but a tad out of touch!! When I was a waitress for 20 years, I went without health insurance, and health care. Thank God I was healthy. I used to save $300 a year to get a basic woman exam that screens for cancer of the cervix and uterus. A regular doctor would not see me because of lack of insurance. I went to Planned Parenthood. It wasn’t free. Three hundred dollars a year, but I was grateful to get to have a yearly exam. Breaks my heart, so many people want these clinics closed. I just went for basic care and was grateful a licensed gynecologist would see me!!!!
Hopefully they have not settled this case because they need to add MANY years of therapy to help them get through this. I hope she can look into the EMDR therapy that @theshunnedBandersnatch below mentions. Scary for them, they need to look at that day as a lucky day not a tragic day, they were so lucky to survive that car crash. I wish them peace and the ability to move forward.
“The specific psychiatric disorders in which mitochrondrial dysfunction has been identified include the following: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depression, autism, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anorexia nervosa, alcohol use disorder (aka alcoholism), marijuana use disorder, opioid use disorder, & borderline personality disorder. Dementia & delirium, often thought of a neurological illnesses, also included.” 📚 Brain Energy: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Understanding Mental Health-& Improving Treatment for Anxiety, Depression, OCD, PTSD, & More by~Christopher M. Palmer
I think doctors don't want to be the one who gives the news of a devastating diagnosis that has no cure- schizophrenia, dementia. The doctors may know for a long time but never get round to telling the patient or caregiver.
First caller: what about the three kids. I understand about being anxious in general and about being very concerned about her sister ... But I feel like the sister and her husband's focus is way too much on other sister. At some point you have to create a little bit of "emotional distance" for personal wellbeing and also for the sake of their marriage and for their kids.
Delony said he won’t tell us who he is voting for, but he also tells us daily the dangerousness of narcissism, name calling, chauvinist, selfishness, abrasiveness, arrogance, etc… so in a way, we all know who Delony is voting for.
Can you stop with your obsession with dehumanizing women by calling us "females"? It is super obvious you are insecure and putting down an entire group of people doesnt make it less so, @dabd8175
🎯 so many people ‘light themselves on fire to keep other people warm.’ Sadly mental illness, addiction etc. can be an ever consuming whirlpool that drags down all things too close. Some people escape but then swim close again and are pulled under, they break free but just can’t seem to find the strength to swim away and are eventually pulled down to where they finally drown. Those who bring their spouse and children repeatedly into the whirlpool with them are another level of cray cray on par with the pool itself.
Wow this advice was WAY OFF with the first caller. A diagnosis is not help. It’s just a label that comes with a stigma. And medication for bipolar or schizophrenia are so not-well-tolerated they should never be the first attempt at treatment.
Dr delony can you throw some dollar amounts on how much these tests should run???? If I had a plumber clear a drain $80-120 is normal. What's a ballpark price private practice for a consult and tests requested 5:19
Check internet for your location. You will need a professional to explain the results of testing to you. So it's not like a yes no lab test. So depending on your concerns, you could choose a psychiatrist if you are dealing with psychiatric illnesses. Or choose a psychologist if it's more behavioral, personality, relational issues. Psychologists use more testing than psychiatrists, but usually around sorting out learning disorders, or inventories of rating symptoms ( many are on the Internet). So I'm a clinical psychologist and testing is not something I use because I don't see teens or kids. I use interview to identify patterns of symptoms and determine if medical intervention is needed, or not. Rates here are 200.00/ hr. Psychiatrists are covered here by healthcare.
Pretty vapid discussion about politics at the very end. I applaud the advice on how to get along when contentious topics arise. But the last bit of advice was really sad.
The lack of understanding of how Bipolar and Schizophrenia present clinically is alarming on this episode. Both diagnosis responds best to antipsychotics. Obviously there are many different ones not to mention some people have comorbidities. These diagnosis are complex and take years and even decades to weed through. It's not uncommon to be in your 40's and even 50's before you are diagnosed. The prodromal stage can last a long time in many patients. If you're going to have a podcast and speak on mental health you should have some basic knowledge about these things.
Lyn is literally good John you’re trying make her say she is not okay. You’re inprinting that further for her. I see what you’re trying to do resisting pain creates more but she’s okay. This is a thing of the past. It’s good. 👍
It was really interesting to hear the conversation about political discussions with people, especially people you love. I'm gay-married. I've been with my wife for about 30 years. So much of the political rhetoric is around lgbtq Americans, and I can tell you that, especially here in Texas, the rhetoric feels hostile and aggressive. I have felt a lot of fear and anxiety in the past 7 years. Watching people at school board meetings frame people like myself and my wife as fundamental dangers to children feels like they are fomenting violence. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I find it very difficult to respect homophobic and transphobic ideas and rhetoric from people who volunteer them to me. I never argue, but those kind of conversations tend to be really one-sided for me, and they really keep me awake at night. I have no idea what these folks are going through personally, but I often imagine them sleeping soundly - having unburdened their feelings that people like me should be detained and executed at worst, or stripped of our civil rights at best - while I wonder if I need to make arrangements to leave the state and the country for my physical safety and the safety of my family.
Most people aren't actually homophobic. We don't want you talking to our kids about it though and y'all do that an unnecessary amount and then get upset like y'all are entitled to talk about your sex lifestyle with our kids. I pray you're not like that but most are.
@@nobodynecessarilyheterosexuality is shoved down everyone's throats all the time. Heterosexuality is central to most literature, music, television and film. Heterosexuality is central to the bulk of family policy across the globe. People still announce their heterosexual marriages in newspapers, still have heterosexual marriage ceremonies, and exist in public with their children (which they should.) All of these are signifiers and indicators of sexual behavior and contact. I don't think that this is objectionable. To behave as if heterosexuality isn't an ever-present ingredient in almost all cultures is, well, the result of privilege. And if you think that it is dangerous for children to know that there are people of the same sex who love one another and who are married? Then you do not think it is okay to be homosexual.
@@williambeast8665 I think that you should be grateful that you have not had to pay attention to the very real legislation moving through Congress and our state houses. I'm grateful that you have not had to read portions of project 2025 that explain how your marriage will be eliminated as well as your right to determine things as simple and pedestrian as next of kin. And while you don't think it is realistic to fear people who are fomenting violence against lgbtq Americans, the threat is real. As a gay person living in the United States of America, my experiences with homophobia are not limited to what I see on social media, or in national, state or local media. My experiences with these things have been and are still in the flesh. In my life. On one hand, I could be hurt and humiliated that you think I'm being hysterical. On the other hand, I'm just really glad you don't have to live with the level of antagonism and aggression that I had to live with as a kid in the '80s, and now again since 2016.
I liked to listen to Mr Fisher. I am still having a problem about the elections. We are a couple that are at a second marriage. I have adult kids and my Texan husband never had kids. It drives me insane that honor, dignity, honesty are not important anymore. Since the orange man was in power intimacy went down because I do not recognize the man I married.
Dr. Deloney, love your show. I think its disgusting you have people here are making fun of a serious health problem like a mental illness. Talking about "females" and making snide comments. I think most men have a total lack of empathy and, honestly maturity. It'd be great if you could do a show about that.
People have to learn to ignore the trolls. The more disgusting things they say, the more people reply and that’s what makes them happy. They don’t care if it’s positive or negative. A troll that people ignore is a troll that goes away.
Never ONCE has Delony ever defended any man or woman who acts and behaves like Trump. It’s pretty obvious who Delony is going to vote for unless you think he has no character. Imagine Delony getting off a call and ending it with “what a terrible person, but we can trust they will be a good president bc of their promised policies.”

My daughter also benefited greatly from EMDR training. Plus I'm hearing amazing things about it for all sorts of post trauma incidents.
I noticed the "it changes a person" comment but I brushed it aside because I thought he's probably just still traumatized but yeah maybe there's more going on there
💯 caught the " his Dad " correction.
The trauma is fresh for all of them
My father refused pain killers and worked while having a broken back.
Possibly the accident was his fault...?
One thing about the first caller… psychiatric medication withdrawals are 90% of the time prolonged and absolutely horrific, so the withdrawal could appear like a mental illness even though it’s simply an effect of the drug.
Very true!
It took me 18 month to recover from withdraw after cold Turkey a ssri! Sometimes i thought dead would be a relief!
@@corneliabruckner490that’s devastating.. I’m sorry you had to go through that.

I agree. There’s a chance she’s not even schizophrenic.
Oh man Jefferson Fisher and Dr. John? This is a quite a Monday! 😂 🔥
Taking her meds keeps her out of the mental health hospital so tell her that again and again🙏🙏
My prayers are with your family.
My whole life, friends, family and just anyone would “toss” that diagnosis around if I had a bad PMS EPISODE…
It was so unfair growing up with a crazy mother yet all eyes on me betting I was crazy too!
There is not a single gene identified for. But about 1/8 of the children also develop schizophrenia.

We both probably have lived a life that most people can’t even imagine with Mothers who have Schizophrenia.

So wise to point out that changing meds ( or some meds on there own ) can create episodic issues & they can look like a whole other issue. 👍
I loved your answers for the 2nd caller. Going thru the storm, a step at a time, cured my panic attacks.
Great show you guys👍
Stress depletes certain VITAMINS & MINERALS , so do meds, up those & it's VERY VERY HELPFUL. Difference between functional coping & failure in our household 💥🙏👍

Same here. I have a relative who had it (and a friend whose mom got it in menopause) and I'm terrified I'll get it too 😭

Mom and son should go together ❤️🙏 maybe he needs to see his mom is scared too but will keep driving

Meth is terrifying. Addiction is one gateway to dark things.
That's the only reason I can think of for someone not being diagnosed until 40.
@@MadCatLady28 that was why I commented. Schizophrenia is usually diagnosed around 20.
@@Plooky1969 I figured as much. When the caller said "there were other issues going back" I immediately thought "a history of drug use" will be the other issues. Nothing else makes sense, it wouldn't go undiagnosed for so long.

Why does the second caller keep saying they “got” witness the accident. It may mean nothing but it’s such a strange way to say that. It makes it sound like it was a good thing! Haha. Maybe just a local dialectical sort of thing but I found it odd.
Dr Delony,
“Wow, she’s 40 and just being diagnosed with schizophrenia now????”
Ummm, YES!!!!!
It is literally not a democracy unless there is another side. Gotta respect the other side even if you struggle to respect their beliefs.

Wait. He said she was 40 then says shes 34...

Lol. Mind your own business and enjoy not reproducing. Everyone wins!
Most people aren't actually homophobic. We don't want you talking to our kids about it though and y'all do that an unnecessary amount and then get upset like y'all are entitled to talk about your sex lifestyle with our kids. I pray you're not like that but most are.
Detained, executed, and stripped of your rights?😂 Yeah no, maybe turn off the TV/screen/news cycle for a little while.

I don't think we can pin intimacy issues on Trump. There's something else there. ❤
Lol can't tell if you're trolling or not......blaming Trump for intimacy issues, that's a new one 😂
TDS
Trump is the best
You are wrong
Dr. Deloney, love your show. I think its disgusting you have people here are making fun of a serious health problem like a mental illness. Talking about "females" and making snide comments.
I think most men have a total lack of empathy and, honestly maturity. It'd be great if you could do a show about that.
It’s always the same troll, he’s been commenting here for years. Don’t engage.
People have to learn to ignore the trolls. The more disgusting things they say, the more people reply and that’s what makes them happy. They don’t care if it’s positive or negative. A troll that people ignore is a troll that goes away.
Most men? Most men will have nothing to do with a bitter harpy like you. Go cry somewhere else
Bitter
@@Gotoworkkk the troll is bitter? Yes I agree.
This wasn’t juicy enough
She needs to try the carnivore diet. They are doing studies on it now but alot of people are reporting good results.
