Giving them a user manual, versus a remote control to push your buttons and control you is pure gold. This is the stuff I need to better learn to deal with certain people in my life. Thank you SO much!
Excellent tips: Know what's going on inside you, "I can tell...", slow down your words, don't force conversations (schedule them), assert boundaries (using "I" language), pause and put yourself in the other person's place. Thank you! 💛
I don’t know that either of you will see this message but I’m putting it here anyway. As a 67-year-old who grew up in a home where there was alcoholism and arguing and physical violence, a lot of that gets internalized and children as you probably both know. When you don’t have the support to develop effective conversational skills and problem-solving skills, you carry that trauma into your adult years until you do develop some skills. And those hair trigger responses are deeply ingrained self protective mechanisms. The surface may seem selfish response but there’s a physical emotional pain that goes with childhood trauma and it is difficult to overcome, a slow and painful process, and when the world hurt that much as a child it becomesa secondary expectation that it’s going to as an adult so to be in constant self protective mode comes naturally. It’s not selfish, it is self protection.

If someone took 8 seconds to answer my question I would walk away
I get a sense that every waking moment that Rachel is off camera, she's playing board and card games.

The commercials make it seem that way!
