Thank you so much! My husband passed away in February and next thing I know, I have an outrageous water bill because of the constant leaking. This was super easy and an awesome way to prove I'm going to be OK by myself!
I love your black cat. Mine died about 3 years ago at 16 years of age. Your video helped me recall how cats like to focus on small and intense things that their humans do.
Crystal clear instructions made the job a snap! (I would probably flush the crud from the lines before replacing the parts, but that’s just a minor detail.) Thanks so much for posting!! We saved ourselves $$$$ for not having to call a plumber.
Very nice video. It clearly explains the process. I have 2 tips for you: 1) ensure the drain stopper is in place so if you drop the screws or springs, they don't disappear down the drain making your project bigger than it needs to be. 2) The brown water was not from the old grommet. It was from the corrosion/mineral deposits on the inside of your shut off valves. Instead of cranking on those valves without water flowing, I would suggest running the water while shutting off those valves so that the corrosion and mineral deposits flush through those valves. The way you did it, you may have forced some of those mineral deposits into the valve seat possibly damaging the valve so that it doesn't completely seal. Again, thanks for posting.... and it was a great video.
Unfortunately, it is pretty common for the shutoffs not to work very well, and you have to shut off the water main. This will be usually in the basement, garage, or crawlspace.
Hey, I figured it out from someone's comments. I turned on the water, and gently turned the valve knobs left and right until they freed up. Cold valve went from grind+squeak to smooth. Some black water came out. Then to stop the drip I turned off the cold water supply. The hot doesn't drip. It's a single spout faucet. We can replace faucet later. Maybe I will just leave it as is. Not my property. Thanks for getting me started with your vid :)
Bless you, Lou -- I don't have a husband around the house (at least not one who knows what a wrench or screw driver does). Got my leaky kitchen faucet fixed, thanks to you.
For those of you who are interested in some possible alternative solutions; I managed to switch the left with the right side (as opposed to buying new parts), and the leak stopped! Do this before you spend money on new parts that may not be necessary. Thanks for creating this video!
+Tommy AbdAllah - Thank you. That is a good idea for a quick fix. In fact, just pulling everything out and putting it back in might stop the leak for a while. These parts do wear out, and chances are that this kind of fix will only last a few weeks or months. If you don't mind working on the drip again fairly soon, this is worth a try. Otherwise, these parts are less than $10 and the fix will last for years.
Are you kidding me, you're going to turn off the water, take it all apart, switch the parts around and hope it seals? Instead of buying a kit for 7 bucks and doing the job right? You're either a hack, the cheapest man alive or someone's slum landlord. I think I lost IQ points reading your post.
I must say that you give a better explanation than anyone else I've ever seen. Now, all I have to do is hope that I can fix my leaky faucet as easy as you did.
Yas! I was so afraid to even attempt to fix my leaky faucet- but I finally got up the nerve, and found your video on you tube. And it was so frikkin easy to fix! It felt brilliant! Thank you!
This was the most helpful video for me. One thing I learned from trial and error-- my replacement springs did not have that slight taper described in the video, they were straight cylinders, and they did not work for this project. They go in fine, but you can't get the tap off! I used the replacement gaskets with the original tapered springs and it was a success.
Thank you! Wanted to fix my leaky faucet forever, even though I live in an apartment complex. Just wanted to do it to prove to myself I could do it. And I did!
Did not take note of how I took the inners out and through trial and error still could not get it until I watched this video and 2 minutes later my taps were fixed. Thank you for this excellent video.
Thank you so much! Just fixed my problem! I was putting the cap first before the spring, then when I watched your video I realized I was doing the wrong thing… I’m an amateur and I should learn more about the basics of plumbing for when something breaks I don’t have to call anyone to fix and save hundreds of dollars. Thanks again!
Yes,I did it! .With my husband deployed I panic last night when I heard my bath tub leaking. I decided to go online ,watched this video and this morning went to the hardware store and bought the pieces,I only spent about $20 .Im so proud of myself and I owe all to this video.Thank you and god bless you!
Thank you! Such a help. We had a steady stream leaking and we've never repaired plumbing ourselves. We watched your video and followed it exactly. Completely fixed!! Saved! Thanks for the easy to follow directions :)
Thank you for the tips! My landlord says he has called the plumber about my leaking kitchen faucet. Yet here it still leaks. I'm going to to take care of the problem myself!! I am woman see me fix the leak.
Lou, your video is awesome. You were very good at explaining the steps it takes to change a leaky faucet and I am very confident I can do it on my own. I was having trouble getting anyone to come and do it because it is such a small job. THANKS!
Aloha, Lou! I was going to call a plumber as I am not very good with repairs. Came across your video and followed your demonstration. Your video and instructions were very clear and simply. Thank you for taking the time to film and share your skills. Mahalo from Leaky sink in Hawaii.😄
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this video. After putting it off for way too long I finally fixed the leaky utility sink faucet in my laundry room using this as a guide. Amazing how simple it is - you laid it out so well. I will say that I, too, had a hard time shutting the water off! I don't think it'd been done in ages. I had to put a wrench on one to turn it. So much so, the packing nut had to be tightened when opening the valve back up again after repairing the faucet; it was dripping quite a bit. All good now (although the crusty drain is leaking when water is dumped into the sink, but that's a repair for another day!) THANK YOU
Thank you for making this video!!! I was able to fix a leaky faucet in no time at all. And your video has prevented me from going crazy! Thank you for your help!!!
thanks for the video. I have the exact faucet and it just what I needed. you saved me a bunch of guess work with the spring and the direction of the value.
Funny you noticed that too!! Lol I thought I was the only one. I would have definitely dropped everything down the drain and have to go back to get new ones again!
Very good video. One thing you should do is put a rag in the drain in case you drop those small parts. You wouldn't want to have to go back to the store to buy more if they fall down the drain. I really love that video.
Thanks! The other videos all have different looking mechanisms. This is the only one that resembles mine with the plastic/nylon part, but I can't budge mine. Checking with the hardware store and a photo before I wreck it. You gave me hope!
I DID IT! Can't remember all the steps, but it is a beautiful work of art. I went with the same cheaper faucet type and replaced the whole thing right down to the bottom fittings under the cupboard. It is truly glorious! I am assuming you are now standing on your head under the sink hoping to get out in the sun someday. Don't be afraid to git yerself some of those there shark fittings. Oh yeah! VERY expensive and SO WORTH it!!!!!
Thanks for making this easy to follow. I am always hesitant to mess with plumbing bc it gets expensive to fix if u mess it up, But ur instructions are so concise I feel confident enough to tackle it. If it works out, I'll be back for instructions on how to install the replacement dishwasher that I bought A YEAR AGO. lol
Straightforward and very helpful! video! Thanks so much for not dumbing it down like most of the DIY videos I've seen ~ and an even bigger thanks for not adding background music!!! Cute cat too! ✫ ✬ ✭ ✮ ✯
I would suggest that you tell everyone to turn off the main water valve in the house before attempting this especially people without a plumbing background. I followed your directions exactly but being a novice I thought I had turned the water off under the sink but all of a sudden pulling out the cylinder a volcano of water came rushing out and up which was highly pressurized and very hot. I was rushing everywhere to get towels to put down to soak up all of the water. There was water everyone and the ceiling is ruined as well as our dining room ceiling. I was soaking wet and had to be careful going to the basement because I didn't want to fall on the basement stairs since I was soaking wet. Now instead of saving money I have a lot of repairs. Your directions were great but I would tell everyone as an extra precaution to turn off the main water valve. I wouldn't want anyone else to have the experience that I had. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. My faucet is a Delta too, but it is in the style of the old rust brown western type of decor. Anyway, when daylight first comes, I too shall try your technique. Thank you again for your instruction and help.
Thanks, great video - one other suggestion would be to use a small Philips screw driver when putting the new spring and washer in place. Went right in and then I used my finger to push it in place. NO MORE DRIP!!!!!
thank you for showing the spring inside, been trying to figure this out for some time. The faucet is not old nor is it worn out, the parts are pretty new....discouraging to say the least. Your cat is too cute))
Great video. Sometimes just tightening the screw on top also solves the problem. If that does not work, then replacing these parts seems to be the next step.
Lou.I took mine apart and there were no black washers that I saw so i cleaned it and put it back together NO LEAKS.Then I saw your excellent video and how you replaced that black washer+spring down inside. So if the dripping starts again i'll know what to do.THANKS A Lot. Bigband Lou
Excellent video. Just one thing I would add. I see your sink drain is like mine and I drop things all the time, so would advise putting a towel or something over that drain hole for when you drop the little spring or black washer before you get it in. Going to definitely try fixing mine myself now with your video as back-up. Thanks.
Thank you so much! My husband passed away in February and next thing I know, I have an outrageous water bill because of the constant leaking. This was super easy and an awesome way to prove I'm going to be OK by myself!
+Terri Emling - Good for you! Home repairs are usually pretty easy, save you lots of money, and give you that DIY satisfaction.

mr diyguy123 Hmm. We have a leaky bath sink. Bought a new faucet to install. But... the shut off valves don't shut off. Advice?

Thanks so much for showing how to fix a dripping faucet. Your helper kitty was so cute.
My husband couldn't figure out what to do so I showed him what RUclips was good for.... :D Thank you!
Stubborn old man 😆
Bless you, Lou -- I don't have a husband around the house (at least not one who knows what a wrench or screw driver does). Got my leaky kitchen faucet fixed, thanks to you.
Thanks! your a life saver! my faucet was driving me CRAZY! fixed it for $2.50 after 2 years
