  • Learn how to fix a kitchen faucet that drips from the spout or leaks from the base, cap or under the handle. If the faucet spout drips, the seats and springs need to be replaced. If the faucet leaks at the base, the O rings need to be replaced. If the faucet leaks from the cap or under the handle, the the cam and cam washer need to be replaced. You may also have to replace the faucet valve ball if it's damaged or pitted.

    Word of caution for those who have an older home ie plumbing turning the shut off valves can cause these to leak. If you haven't touched these in 15, 20 years that was my experience now I have to replace both valves. I was able to tighten the nut on one but other leaks a lot. I fixed the leaky faucet though, just a word of caution but otherwise hands down this is the best how to video on You Tube.

    Great, simple video! 👏 can someone please advise? Mine is a very similar Delta single lever faucet. It was dripping out of the spout. Disassembly and replacement of seat and springs went great. Cleaned, greased and reassembled. Lever was so smooth. Leak at spout stopped but now it's slowly seeping out of the base and theres NO HOT WATER! What the heck?? Yes main water shut off is back on and cold and hot shut off valves are back on. Thanks in advance 🙂

      You're welcome. A Delta or Danco repair kit. Please see "Show More" description area below video where I have the parts listed.

    So if it's dripping from the end we just do the seats and springs and not the other? Is there anything on the end of the faucet to deal with? Another video from one of the big box stores basically said to buy the entire kit and replace everything. I have replaced seats in springs for my bathroom faucet before... It's going to have to be this weekend before I can handle this because I'm about to leave town so I'm just going to turn the water off while I'm gone so it doesn't drip. I really wish I could tackle this this morning though

      Thank you. Re the cap--I'd try a large pair of Vice Grips or Channel Locks to remove the cap. Make sure you put something between the cap and tool to protect the finish on the cap or you will scratch the finish.

    2:27 What is the name of the tool you used to tighten the retainer nut? And is it generally available at hardware stores or online?
    5:29 Can't tell which end of the cone-shaped spring is inserted into the bottom of the seat. Is it the wider end of the spring that's inserted into the bottom of the seat?

    • @misterfunnybones
      @misterfunnybones 17 дней назад +1

      The retainer nut tool is included with most parts kits. Springs go in big end first. The seal washers then sit on the small ends of the springs.

      @@misterfunnybones Thanks. As the faucet was still within the warranty period, I had ordered the parts separately (over 3 separate orders), so I never got a kit, per se. After replacing every moveable internal piece, with no improvement, I finally figured out that the little ?knob? that the ball mechanism attaches to was missing -- apparently broken off. As that was integrated with the base (which was NOT going to be replaced under warranty), I threw in the towel and bought a new Moen faucet. Same design, though, so hopefully I can apply what I've learned to future fixes with this new faucet. 🙂

      @@eponymousIme yeah. It gets to a certain point where your time plus parts costs more than a brand new faucet & the newer ones are very easy to install. Let's hope they last. 👍

    Btw, if you call Delta, they will send you the part, but you'll have to send them a picture of your faucet unless you know the model number. Although then it will take 8-10 days to arrive. I live right around the corner from an HD, so I could have been there and back in less time than it took to make that phone call.

      I don't know the name of the tool, but it comes in the repair kit you can buy that has all of the parts you need to repair the faucet. The tool is a wrench made to remove and tighten the retaining nut. Look online and you'll see the repair kits. Lowe's and Home Depot have them, too.

    • @frugaldiy1

      Maybe, but those caps can look similar to each other and not work because the threads are different.

    What if I can’t get the set set screw to loosen?? It’s very hard to get to, half facing the wall, so I can’t see what tool is needed but it feels like an Allen wrench fits in - yet it is not getting any looser! Any hints?

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  Год назад +3

      Hi Rochelle. Here's what I'd do. Get a flashlight and mirror. Point the mirror directly toward the hole where the set screw is located and shine the flashlight directly toward/onto the mirror so you can see if the set screw, in fact, takes an Allen wrench. If it does, I'd take take a pair of Vice-Grips/locking pliers and clamp them onto the end of the Allen wrench as I'm turning the wrench.
      Note: slow and steady pressure/force is the key here when turning the Allen wrench with the locking pliers.
