Back for Day 2 of research preparatory to shopping for hearing aids. Happily, this video came up again today and I get to watch this charming lady again ! What a doll... again !
I am a 15 year old that’s had hearing loss my whole life but just came enlighten by it a couple of months ago and I’m playing and getting my hearing aid in 2 weeks. This video help me feel like I’m not alone so thank you !
Yay! Congratulations! Your hearing aids will help you hear many more things! Have confidence and talk with others when you notice they look at your hearing aids.
Thanks! I've only got one working arm so the factor of cleaning and maintenance will be paramount for me. My audiologist hasn't even discussed the differences, difficulties or long term costs. Typical employee of a Chain, all they want is an easy sale at the highest price point you can afford! I'm now looking for a new audiologist, thanks again.
I went years with untreated hearing loss. I have severe loss and Mines genetic too. When I first got hearing aids Mines in the ear it was overwhelming and stress relieving at the same time.
Hi my name is Barry from the UK I found your channel by accident! Even though I have worn hearing aids for over 30 years I learnt a lot more from you! I started with the body worn aids with the box & wires! I still use them on a bad hearing day! But I also wear two BTE ones! We get them free in the UK via the NHS but not top of the range ones! A friend has just started wearing hearing aids she has RIC in both ears but with her loss after listening to what you said I think she needs BTE with proper ear moulds! I have a severe to profound hearing loss,so RIC would not help me! I love your white ones it's good you show them off your partner must be proud of you! I hate hearing aid shops pushing the tiny aids or invisible ones! They are trying to make you feel ashamed to be deaf or hard of hearing! It's scary & lonely at the moment with face masks because of covid! I tend not to go out much! I have a saying #deaf not daft! If you wear glasses to see they are a fashion item! The bigger the frame the better but hearing aids have to be hidden which I hate! I am deaf nothing will change that! Thank you for taking the time to read this! 🌈🌈
Hello! It is nice to e-meet you! I am SO glad you found my channel and commented. It was so fun to read it! Life is so cool like that sometimes. Cheers for matching BTE hearing aids! That is so neat you get hearing devices for free via NHS in the UK. The U.S. hasn't jumped on that boat yet. I hope your friend can test the BTEs out and decide what she prefers. BTEs take some getting used to, they can feel plugged at first. Yes, I love my white hearing aids, I don't want them to blend in, like you said, yes, we are #deaf, not daft - I love that!
Thank you for taking the time to reply,it's just after 5pm here in the UK so I know replies can take longer! From what I can tell you have really good speech! I have seen people with RIC's but I never got the chance to try them! When I first got the body worn aids people did call me names as back then we did not have headphones & mobile phones so my hearing aids ended up in a drawer! But I got deafer & deafer due to noise damage working with noisy machines! I was shocked when I had my test it was in the bottom half of the audiogram! It hit me that I was classed as severe to profoundly deaf in both ears 😭 I ended up having speech therapy as I could not hear my own voice a lot of the time! I love the way in each video you have your hair up & you play with your hearing aids! They look quite sexy if you don't mind me saying! It's harder if you wear glasses & a facemask! What I like about your channel is you wear hearing aids & your not trying to sell them! I think in the USA the government should pay for your aids! You did not ask to be deaf! Plus surely if everyone that needs them gets them more people can work if that makes sense! But we have to make hearing aids sound as sexy as glasses! I bet there are people reading your posts that wish they had hearing aids,we are not daft so why do people shout at you or speak differently we are #deaf not daft ..
@@barrytaylorprofoundlydeafi2479 Wow, what a story! Do you feel your hearing could have been saved had you had proper ear protection? Excessive sound exposure is sadly, the leading cause of hearing loss. That is good to hear you've received the help you need! Thank you, I hope to build my channel to spread awareness and help others - I hope to change the stigma!
You’re absolutely right!. shame comes to mind. I guess it’s because it’s It’s not exactly considered a fashion statement. However, more public awareness should be brought forward, at least through the NHS. My mother is 75 and suffers from severe to profound hearing loss, she feels very conscious showing them. She keeps both her ears covered with her hair so no one would notice them. Worse of all, when she can’t hear properly, some people think she’s stupid. It really breaks my heart that she feels misunderstood. However, I’m happy that with new technology, hearing aids are improving constantly.
@@m.f.b7144 some people knock the NHS but we are so lucky to get free hearing aids & batteries! Without hearing aids my world would be muffled sounds! Nobody would understand a word I am saying as during lockdown seeing less people a lot of the time I leave my hearing aids out as I am not speaking with people! So I am told I sound like a person that's been deaf all their lives! So I wear them every day again! Plus since writing the first reply I have sight problems & am deafblind! Over in America there are so many people with a hearing loss that need hearing aids but cannot afford them! It's criminal in this day & age that hard of hearing people don't have access to hearing aids, they change your life for the better! We should not have to hide them! We need glasses to see & they are a fashion statement why not hearing aids too! What a great post you sum up it up completely! ❤️❤️
Well done!! I have been deaf in my left ear my whole life...nerve deafness in that one. So during 69 years of my life have always just known sound on my right side. I am a musician. 5 weeks ago I woke up and ...you guessed it....DEAF in my one good ear. Drastic life changer. Total silence except for some bird sounds in my head.....being treated for sudden hearing loss now by ENT...now starting to have some hearing come back slowly....lower frequencies coming in...high ones not good. Unfortunately as a musician my world has stopped. I can't hear the various instruments I play and cannot discern a simple chromatic music scale....all sounds like digital garbage. Life goes on. I am starting to look for hearing aids and really appreciate your video. I think the only option for me is the BTE since my loss is severe. I don't know if I will ever get my ability to hear and discern music back....it's in God's hands....good hands. So thank you. I was thinking maybe the RIC but now believe the only option is BTE.... my doctor appt is soon and I will get his opinion. Thanks for making this video and you are a fabulous presenter...I can hear you but as a Mickey Mouse voice....better than not hearing at all. Prayers out to all those with hearing loss seeking solutions and healing. God bless.
You have great faith. Faith of Job. I am just a fellow hearing aid wearer but recommend the BTEs. They have more power to help your hearing loss. I hope you are pleasantly surprised with the way the hearing aids work for you.
Thanks for the real world, simple explanation. From someone who was blessed with good hearing until it’s was damaged due to decades of exposure. Appreciate it!
It is my pleasure! Welcome to the hard of hearing world; I will be your friend through this journey! Feel free to let me know what other questions you have or any video ideas you may have! :)
Didn’t know this! Thank you so much for the video! I have RIC and love mine!! It comes with an app and I can remove the ear mold to wash plus it comes with tiny little filters that I switch out every so often. My audiologist fitted also added a little piece to my ear mold so it fits snugly in my ear since my ear is small. I grew up with hearing aids but unfortunately my family wasn’t super understanding of my hearing loss. I still struggle sometimes being comfortable showing my hearing aids even if they’re small. It’s getting better though!
Hii, I wore a hearing aid back then like I was 4-13 years old...and I stopped wearing hearing aid because many of my friends abused me and teased my speaking and hearing disability. They also took my hearing aid and throws in the playground. I complained to teachers for that. The teachers didn't do anything to them instead they said go to classroom. I felt like this world is so full of cruel and hatred, they didn't understand my pain. Right now my age is 17. I love to wear hearing aids but whenever I wear my hearing aid, it struck me bad memories that happened back then, I don't have more power to wear that hearing aid😢😢😢😢. Anyways your video is best, it helped me to distinguish between BTE and RIC...thanks for adding subtitles..❤❤❤❤
Hi Srinidhi! It makes me sad to hear people were mean to you. Please forgive them and remind yourself of how much you love your hearing aids when sad thoughts come back. It takes practice but will be worth it my friend.
@@srinidhipkumar9619 I have a close friend who has been hearing impaired since birth and told me he was made fun of in high school. Had I been his teacher I would have never let this happen. Luckily Robert has had a steady job for many years and gets around a lot.
I am shopping I was wondering about the tube or the icr I’ve had both it’s been so long since I had the tube type could not remember the pros and cons I do remember the tubes having condensation build up in them stopping sound I am really struggling with my hearing now people think I’m an ass but I get so tired of asking them to repeat themselves so I just move on and do things my way. In some ways the loss of hearing makes me a better troubleshooter in electrical problems because I have to use a meter I see things often overlooked by the hearing crowd. I have worn hearing aids now for almost 30 years I’ll be 50 in July not being able to hear really sucks at times. But I’m hearing you with the bte with tubes and so far my research points to resound. I’ll be browsing the rest of your videos after this long winded comment. Such a nice friendly smile . Thank you.
Thank you! Based on the fact that you've had difficulty hearing, it sounds like you could use a hearing aid with more power. BTEs have lots of power and have been great for me. Do you know what your dB loss is? Mine is 65-85 (moderate to severe) and so BTEs are good for that loss severity. WIth the condensation, I get that too on a daily basis but use a dry aid kit (Global Dry and Store II - expensive but worth it. The UV light kills bacteria and reduces itchiness) to remove moisture over night. Welcome to the channel!
@@DefiniteHearing I do not know the number. The 16th I have an appointment with an audiologist. I will get the particulars then. I guess I need to be more serious about the hearing problems and scrutinize more. Be more in the know. On another note I have been looking for ways to save some dough. I stumbled across a company/organization Hear in America. You ever heard of this the claim is 30%to 70% savings on aid purchases. Some extended warranties and a few other claims I actually reached out to them yesterday. I don’t know if by luck or they would do it for everyone. But they asked what organization I was with . Told them found you on the web. He said ok and signed me up. No cost. To good to be true? But they schedule an appointment the 16 June so I’m going to follow this trail and see what happens. Find out if I save or not.
@@DefiniteHearing I had a test I believe if I’m reading it right 75db left and 80db right tomorrow I will go to a second hearing professional I am going to a few different this time as much as these cost I’m shopping around usually I jump quick because I’m excited to hear. Phonak Nadia and oticon exceed are interesting me as of now but I’m not sure if oticon is iOS it for sure is android but I don’t like android. I’ll keep you posted I don’t believe they have resound at this hearing pro you did say in your video not sure which one yours were resound.
Lovely video! I wear RICs at the moment but my hearing is getting worse and I expect I need a new receiver at the very least. Maybe next time I will have a BTE. As a RIC is so discreet it is hard for people to see them and with the Pandemic it has caused increased problems.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Ah, yes if you think an update would be good, I encourage you to see to it. Yes, the RICs are quite tiny cool little things! Hearing is the most important part, though.
I enjoy your shows. I have both styles as you describe and use them alternately. While the RIC hearing aids are smaller, the receivers dont stay in and they can be easily lost especially in the era of using facemasks
@@DefiniteHearing CIEs sound like you are sitting in an auditorium and listening to a PA system with slight echoes, the BTE with molds have a better sound and I can get it louder.
I had bte when i was younger but it was way different.. i fine them both similar in some ways but i could use either really with my moderate hearing loss. They also make slimmer tubes for the BTE I think as well.. RIC usually has a better chance of getting better natural sound quality because the way they work. Unlike other hearing aids, they work by bringing sound closer to you in a natural manner, as the receiver is placed in the ear. But its more ideal if your hearing loss is mild or moderate but they make high power level receivers for severe losses now,.. I have medium power receivers with my devices, and they’re much stronger than the low power receivers.. You need the proper power level
@@theyorkshireladyoyo How are you doing? have both styles prefer the ones with ear molds, you get used to them and become not aware. Mine are totally clear full shells but I also have the skeleton variety. One issue that the tubing will get stiff, may crack and need to be replacd.
@@mitchdakelman4470 yes I wear mine I love them but I don’t wear them every day cos my parents won’t wear there aids so they have tv full blast hence stopping me wearing mine
It’s a very good comparison of BTE & RIC hearing aids. I have BTE hearing and I was frustrated that my doctor did not advise me to purchase RIC. I live in a remote place and now I see that BTEs are probably the best choice for me because they are more reliable.
Thanks for sharing Emily. I have previously had a bone anchored hearing aid back in 2012 on my right side. By 2014 by some miracle, my hearing drastically improved and I had the abutment removed. Since then my hearing on my left side which was always my best side has dramatically reduced. I have been offered a BAHA again for my left side however due to Covid all short to medium term surgery has been suspended in the UK. I also had reservations about another BAHA as I reacted badly to the operation in the past. I have been referred to a local audiologist to look at the possibility of using conventional hearing aids however I am skeptical about this as I have middle ear loss. I am not confident they will improve my hearing much but have to wait and see! Thanks again. Jack
Hi Jack! Thanks for sharing. Wow, what a journey! I think that is sad that the surgeries have been postponed. However, that is what needs to be done to vanquish this pandemic! I'm not sure how things are in the U.K. but in the U.S. there is a trial period for hearing aids. If a trial period is available in the U.K., hearing aids may be worth testing! Best wishes on your journey!
I've had a hearing loss since I was 8 or 9 years old caused by mumps. I'm 78 years old and have been able to get aids tailored to my loss only for about the last 30 years. During this journey I've had several BTE aids and a couple of RIC aids. The RIC aids seem to delivery enough power for my loss. There are also aids that fit entirely within the ear, but they are appropriate only for mild-to-moderate losses. I know several people who've had aids that sit in a drawer because they are disappointed with the performance. This is a result of poor communications between the hearing aid provider and the patient. It's the provider's responsibility to make sure the patient has realistic expectations of the device. If the device is unused the provider has not helped the patient at all. The provider should explain what to expect of the device and follow up several times to make sure the patient is using the device correctly and is happy with the results.
Thank you! I just got some starkey 2400 RIC’s but I am quite active and I notice that a little bit of physical activity and sweat, they are done. I like the size of the RIC but I was reading the BTE’s are a little more durable. I am considering taking these back since I’ve only had them a few weeks. But my hearing loss isn’t profound and I’m wondering, are the BTE’s actually more durable in your opinion and is the audio quality a little better on the BTE’s? I love the RIC audio quality but they are very tinny sounding and I was wondering if the BTE had a little more bass? I am more concerned about the resilience against sweat so if they BTEs offer more bass and better durability I’ll probably definitely go for it. Oh and btw just subscribed, hope it helps!
If you're in the U.S. you can return hearing aids will no penalty up to 30 days of getting them. Definitely go return them if they're cutting out. They shouldn't be cutting out. I also recommend putting your aids in a hearing aid dryer to keep them dry and operating properly. For my moderate to severe hearing loss, yes, BTEs are much more durable and have better sound quality. They have the proper power I need to hear.
@@DefiniteHearing thank you! I have an appointment Monday to go in and have them look at them. I have another couple weeks left on my return period so if they tell me nothing is wrong I will probably just ask for my money back and try a different place. Thank you. They did work wonderfully to begin with, it was really nice to understand people again and hear some of the sounds I’ve been missing out on.
Very informative and nice video. My father's DBHL is 71 in right and left ear. Severe sensorineural hearing loss. 71 years old. Could you please tell me me which type hearing aid should we use. Which brand is reliable . Please answer. It will be very helpful. Which is better BTE or RIC?
I will be getting my first hearing aids soon and I want a BTE if possible. I am super paranoid about losing them and I am planning on putting some kind of strap on them (like what they do for kids)...I might actually bead something attached to hair clips. I am not planning on trying to hide them. I am going to decorate them instead and make them fit in with my spooky cute authentic.
Nice video. I got a question. Do you think BTE could be fitter for someone like me. Unilateral hearing loss (normal from 0 to 1500 hz, then the cliff between 1500 and 2000 hz and last severe loss between 2000 and 8000 hz). It has to be sort of open to use my normal low frequencies and close enough to prevent feadback. Do you think that could be possible? are you aids calibrated in the high frequencies calibrated to get the gain that your hearing losses require? I am asking cause i have seen that audis often provide just enough auditability to improve speech recognition but not to cover all hearing deficiency to avoid distortion specially in noisy settings.
I can’t wait to dump the RIC and go back to BTE. Probably never should have made the switch. Thought I wanted discreetness but now I have changed that mind set.
2 reasons. My RICs are pretty much maxed out in power. But more so I’m super active with working out and playing golf. I’m constantly having to take them out due to sweat causing distortion and often they will just cut out on me. The health club I workout at is the company I worked for 20 years. so when I have to take them out it’s next to impossible converse with members and then when playing golf The round isn’t enjoyable not being able to hear. From what I understand the BTE hearing aids are better if you are super active etc? I am getting new bigger ear molds so hopefully this will help for the time being. We are trying no vents to cut back on feed back and hear better. A little nervous about doing no vents so will see. When people are behind me I don’t always hear if they are trying to get my attention. I’m not very good in telling people I’m hard of hearing so also thinking the bigger ones will make people more aware with the hearing aids being more visible. I want to get the best blue tooth BTE’s out there😁
@@bartfleming473 I am super active - I love to exercise and run, I have had trouble with my RICs and not the BTEs. I hope it will be the same for you. I think a BTE will be great for you based on what you said. BTEs were an adjustment for me. I felt so "plugged" and everything sounded like I was underwater for about two to three weeks. (It is funny I feel like I know what that would sound like.) But YES I think the bluetooth connectivity is SO incredible! I'm excited for you to try it out!
I did have BTE’s from the time I was 4 until I went to college. Hearing aids have never felt the same since until I put molds in the RIC’s 3 years ago . I get the new earl molds any day now so will see . Never thought I’d be excited about getting new ear molds lol
Thank for the video I have Worn behind the ear hearing aid since i was 3 years old i have never used Rit hearing aids i don't think i would like them because i need powerful hearing aids
I'm glad you enjoyed it! You've been wearing the BTE's for a long time like me. We're matching! I love my powerful hearing aids. I didn't realize how much I was missing out on before, but everyone else noticed! Not anymore with my BTEs! :)
i recently learned in aug. last year that i have neurofibromatosis type two that has give me 2 acoustic neuromas and my left hearing has declined to a moderate hearing loss so i decided to give hearing aids 4 days ago... and im not sure whats normal and what isnt...the lady sais my right ear has been so good that its over compensated for my bad side. so like..the hearing aid seems...never on? except for those split seconds its like having surround sound which feels amazing but then i get really sad when it stops feeling surround sound so im not sure if i need more tweaking for the programing of the hearing aid or not...
I was curious what each looked like on from the front, side and back with your hair up. I've not had hearing aids all my life and therefore am worried how they show or stand out or don't. I don't know if I want to match hair or not either because there's skin near my ear, not my hair. So I feel like either of these in my brown hair color will just look like there's a bug on the back of my ear and also might be much more obvious than more if a beige color. I definitely want to see what they look like since I some choices.. Please and Thank you. If you do show that in another video I'd definitely appreciate a link. Or the video title so I might search and find it. Crazy enough I've not seen many options of viewing these things on in different colors :-( Even with a Google search. :-/
I've never had anyone think mine are bugs and even my BTE white hearing aids are difficult to see from the front and side - they're more noticeable from behind when my hair is up. Hearing aids are becoming more popular and are SO worth it! Confidence wise, definitely take time to think about this and what these devices are for. It is a whole other battle to feel confident in hearing aids; if/once you overcome it, it'll be worth it.
@@DefiniteHearing I am actually super excited to not have to be saying, "What?" over and over and over again. And/or being able to hear a TV at normal volume as opposed to pretending to hear it or asking if someone will please bump up the volume. Just trying on a pair I was so excited! 😊. I did ask to try another color to compare. But yes, in that moment I didn't care. However I didn't see them through a mirror. They seemed so comfortable I just wasn't much aware they were on except for the fact that I could hear better. YAY!!! I haven't seen them on me and mine do have the clear tubing and in ear headphone earplug looking thing so I'm guessing that will show from the front. :-/. I'll eventually be okay with it I think. Hopefully. Thank you. 😊
@@sleepwalkerZZZ Wahoo! Know that the "what?" may not leave instantly as it can be a habit. You'll hear what someone says but out of habit say what. This is normal and will phase out with time. :) Yes, the tubing can or cannot be noticeable. Just know that many people do not see them unless you draw attention to them. Love them, and your confidence will chase the hearing aid concerns away. I'm so happy to hear things are going well!!
That is totally normal for BTE ear molds to make you feel "plugged" or underwater. You will get used to it overtime. BTE molds typically offer a better seal on the ear and therefore, better sound quality. (Usually less feedback, too.) Overall, RICs typically aren't as powerful as hearing aids compared to BTE hearing aid models. Therefore, talk with your audiologist, if your hearing loss is moderate, severe or profound, a BTE most likely offers the power you need and deserve.
@@DefiniteHearing that’s good to know thank you for the reply :) I asked my audiologist incase and she said I could need a new tube so they away getting serviced :)
Why are they only available in beige? Don't they come in other colors? I want mine to be noticeable. I want it to be a fashion statement. I once read a book where someone wore bright blue and I want mines to look like that so do they come in blue with sparkles? I don't want to hide my hearing loss. I kind of want to celebrate it and if I need to wear a hearing aid I want to show it off I don't want to hide it
@@DefiniteHearing unfortunately for now I'm not a candidate for hearing aid. All it did was make my tinnitus worse and make the distortion worse that I already have because I've lost most of my hearing due to speech recognition on that side. It also amplified loud sounds so that they sounded louder and the noise actually hurt my ear. So the basic hearing aid is not for me and the audiologist is going to look into alternatives that may be helpful to me but so far I haven't heard back from her and I'm not feeling very positive in that respect. Eventually I'll probably lose all of my hearing in that ear and I'll feel really unbalanced. Because what I'm dealing with is not regular hearing loss, it's hearing loss due to a tumor that's growing on my vestibular cochlea nerve and pressing on it and causing the tinnitus and the hearing loss and it's progressive. It's a benign tumor but it's still a tumor and it's still inside of my brain and it's grown about a millimeter in a year's time so it's definitely something to be worried about. I'm due to get a third MRI next April to see if it grows anymore and if it does and it's troublesome then I would need to see a doctor that does radiation
I have watched several of your videos learned a lot, am getting molded resound one in a couple of weeks. It has been hard to keep up with you because you talk so fast.
I didn't get the RIC kind because it was going to be expensive. It turns out that having a hearing aid that shows isn't always such a bad thing. Normally I neither hide it nor make it stick out, but since the Chinese coronavirus hit, switching to blue tubing has helped on a couple occasions with the masks, but not even a fraction as often as I hoped.
I agree that having a hearing show isn't always a bad thing. I don't mind that my hearing aids show. Typically, older people care though as they feel it can be a sign of aging. Hence the fact most hearing aid manufacturers only produce skin tone and hair color aid colors. I haven't heard of the blue tubes. Do they reduce feedback?
@@DefiniteHearing No, they are cosmetic and work just like clear. You can get them in other colors if you want. With everyone wearing masks it's probably best for now that it's more obvious (to some people) that I didn't hear them if I don't respond or don't understand them. Did you ever have a problem with bullying or alienation at school over your hearing aids?
@@seanfortine2707 ah, that makes sense! Yes, I had instances of bullying throughout growing up at the public pool, in school, et cetera. I would say no, to the alienation though. I am the party-starter, invite people type of person. There were certainly times I had pity parties and had to fight my personal negative thoughts of "You're different, distance yourself." The majority of the bullying instances were by people who didn't even know me; I recognized that and refused to take what they spewed out. In one instance I became good friends with the bully. (On the first day of class, he made some rude assumptions - I was sassy and poked at him and it worked out.) The rude comments by people that knew me well hurt the most. Have you dealt with bullying and alienation due to wearing hearing aids in school?
@@DefiniteHearingWas getting bullied at the public pool over your hearing? I didn't wear hearing aids until recently, but I have a mcirotia and am totally deaf on my right side. I kept my hair long most of the time. I got bullies a while when the style got dated. I switched haircuts and gradually got shorter around my ears. I got some comments at first but as it gradually got shorter, that stopped save for a couple people I discovered insulting me when they realizes I couldn't hear them (except for a couple times they weren't as sneaky as they thought). I didn't engage. There was a lot of bullying in other situations but I'd have to pay you by the hour for that!
@@seanfortine2707 Yes. People would try to play those games like Marco Polo and Colors, I didn't "play right"/couldn't play because of my hearing loss. I'm not a fan of swimming and wonder if those experiences in childhood could be a reason why. I like being able to hear and know what is going on around me. Hearing aid wise, do you like them? Has it been hard to adjust to them? That is good to know more about your loss, thanks for sharing. Hair cut wise, I am so sad to hear you got bullied. I am your friend and standing by you virtually against any unkind words! Hair cut wise, do what you feel comfortable in. Unfortunately, it sounds like some people will be bullies about the hearing or hair, regardless. Way to not engage with the bullies; every situation is different but that takes true strength and courage. Bullies lack understanding of what their victims go through. I often opt for the same route as you. I always laugh a little to think we hard of hearing people are naturally good at ignoring bullies. ;)
I am just buying HA, and seems that I have the same conclusions...RIC seems to me not so practical in terms of cleaning. Also, I found RIC so small, I don't feel if it's still here...and also I afraid to break cord between two parts of RIC...It's my subjective opinion, of course..
The RIC is kind of a smaller BTE. But it is not the style but hearing aid power that matters most for your hearing loss. I like BTEs because the sound sounds more natural to me.
@@DefiniteHearing lately I've been ear drainage fluid and it's damage my RIC receiver with custom ear mold...I have to get it replace 4 time! I've been thinking about going back to old school BTE hearing aid.

Typical employee of a Chain, all they want is an easy sale at the highest price point you can afford! I'm now looking for a new audiologist, thanks again.
Way to look for a new audiologist. Best of luck!
I went years with untreated hearing loss. I have severe loss and Mines genetic too. When I first got hearing aids Mines in the ear it was overwhelming and stress relieving at the same time.
Yep, that sounds right. New hearing aids take time to adjust to reintroducing all of those sounds you didn't know you weren't hearing!
I’m so glad this is helpful!
Thank you for your valuable inspiration. I'm sure I will move forward wearing the hearing aids... Thanks once again❤❤

Great points! Thanks for sharing! Did you notice a difference in the way they sound?
You’re right, the proper power level is critical.

Yes, the patient needs to advocate for themselves and the provider needs to properly support them.
Thank you. Which is better BTE or RIC?
He needs a BTE for that loss. I recommend ReSound and Phonak. They have the most "natural" sound.
AWESOME!! I'm so excited for you!!
Yes. I do think a BTE could possibly help you. Please meet with an audiologist to confirm.
I can’t wait to dump the RIC and go back to BTE. Probably never should have made the switch. Thought I wanted discreetness but now I have changed that mind set.
Oh man! At least you figured out what you like. I'm curious, you switched to RICs for discreetness, what makes you want to switch back to BTEs?

Love them, and your confidence will chase the hearing aid concerns away. I'm so happy to hear things are going well!!
I have BTE for both ears but recently they make my ears feel blocked? Then I came across the RIC, would I benefit to changing to the RIC hearing aids?
That is totally normal for BTE ear molds to make you feel "plugged" or underwater. You will get used to it overtime.
BTE molds typically offer a better seal on the ear and therefore, better sound quality. (Usually less feedback, too.)
Overall, RICs typically aren't as powerful as hearing aids compared to BTE hearing aid models.
@@DefiniteHearing Agree, used to them and become unaware that they are there. They do certainly help, and dont slip out like the little CIEs

hey i was born with mine when i younger since i been wearing with battery hearing aids i younger age until now i upgrade to rechargeable hearing aids
That’s great! Do you like battery powered or rechargeable hearing aids better?
Why are they only available in beige? Don't they come in other colors? I want mine to be noticeable. I want it to be a fashion statement. I once read a book where someone wore bright blue and I want mines to look like that so do they come in blue with sparkles? I don't want to hide my hearing loss. I kind of want to celebrate it and if I need to wear a hearing aid I want to show it off I don't want to hide it
I agree with you! They only come in boring colors because unfortunately, the demand for exciting colors isn't great enough. Yet. ;)
Thanks for letting me know I talk fast. I'll work on that.
Hello, you can always decrease the playback speed, like to 0.75 or so, to hear her slowly. :)
Yes, subjective but very valuable! Choose what you feel is best for you as you'll be wearing the hearing aids!
Is there smaller bte?
The RIC is kind of a smaller BTE. But it is not the style but hearing aid power that matters most for your hearing loss. I like BTEs because the sound sounds more natural to me.
@@DefiniteHearing lately I've been ear drainage fluid and it's damage my RIC receiver with custom ear mold...I have to get it replace 4 time! I've been thinking about going back to old school BTE hearing aid.
my loss is age related so..it is what it is. no problem
Yes, age can be the cause of hearing loss. Regardless of the cause, addressing a hearing loss is a good idea.
Ma'am, I am from India. Which type of hearing aid is best for over 80 years BTE ya RIC?
Great question. It depends on your type of hearing loss. I recommend visiting a licensed audiologist. They will diagnose the type of hearing loss you have and the severity of it - this will help you get the hearing aids you need.
@@DefiniteHearing thanks ma'am
I’m 13 years old and I’ve had hearing loss for my whole life and I’m finally getting hearing aids today because they thought I had glue ear but it’s hearing loss
It's sad that it takes so long to diagnose a hearing loss. I'm excited for you and that you're getting new hearing aids! Your hearing aids will help you hear so many new sounds! Enjoy exploring and listening to all of them!
Well my hearing loss is difficult to cope with because I also am blind so that means I have duo desabilities So that's why
That is hard. You're also very strong. What do you do to help yourself feel confident?
Sorry ric
I get what you meant! :)
