- The Halloween special is here, appropriately so for the season of spooks! You'll notice a lot of changes from the other one, but overall you know how this one goes!
My thoughts on N's room. I just think it's really tragic. N was a child who loved pokémon with all his heart, and he had a gift of being able to understand them. But Ghetsis took advantage of that love and used it to brainwash N into helping him bring about his final ultimate goal, total domination of the Unova region and the disarming of all the people in the region by manipulating them into letting go of their pokémon. When I entered that room for the first time in White 2, I wondered how it must have been for N, alone in this crumbling ruin of a castle with nothing to do but reflect on everything that he had discovered in the events of the first story, as well as what he was to do with his life from now on. In Black and White he was shown to still have the naivety and innocence of a child, but in the two years since the events from those games he pretty much had to grow up immediately. Truthfully Ghetsis' plan from the first two games was what scared me the most, since if he had succeeded everyone would release their pokémon. With no pokémon there would be no gyms, no league, no journey for the people to go on. It would pretty much be the end of everything, since the region would become an empty shell ruled over by Ghetsis and no one would be able to stop him.

That's one problem I have with Arceus. They created some omnipotent Pokemon that is no less containable than the likes of artificial Pokemon. Furthermore, it's no match for a Master Ball, despite being a creature that no one has ever seen. But, what do I know? I just see these interdimensional creatures and expect certain things to make sense.

Creepy note: I was playing Pokémon Silver the other day and talked to a girl in the basement of the Ruins Of Alph and she said something like “this place is ethereal” and then I did the puzzle and it was easy. I went back to where she was and she was _gone..._ She must have not had any Pokémon and gotten attacked by Unown.

Gardenia actually used to live in the Old Chateau, but she wasn’t alone there. She also had a sister. Well if that’s the case, how come it’s never mentioned in the games? Because Gardenia murdered her sister in cold blood. You see, it was her sister, not Gardenia, who was originally set to be Eterna City’s Gym Leader. Jealous of her sister’s popularity, Gardenia secretly poisoned her sister and the Butler got caught up in it as well. Soon after the deed was done, however, Gardenia began to feel remorse and regret for her actions, and rushed to buy an Antidote and give it to her sister. But by that time, it was too late. Her sister was dead by her hand. Distraught, Gardenia threw the Antidote away in the trash can in her sister’s room, and swore to never tell anyone. Of course, her sister and the butler died before their times, so they came back as ghosts. Once Gardenia discovered this, she fled the house in terror and guilt, never to return. In fact she banned anyone from visiting the place, leaving it to become the overgrown Old Chateau that we’re all familiar with.

The num 11 he called pretty peaceful was not the Distortion World, but what was num 10 in this video being the Ruins of Alph music, which indeed is actually pretty peaceful, I always failed to see why be creeped out by that. I was getting upset that you hadn't included N's room from BW2 and when I saw the Lavender Town one I was like C L I C H E... I had such a pleasant surprise that BW2's N's room turned to be #1! I find it the creepiest to bc of the implications of Ghetsis mentally abusing his son and all of that. Great video!

I still think lavender town should be second though instead of not being included at all. It and the rocket theme are very creepy, definitely more so than viridian forests theme.

Well, listen to the Guzzlord's Ultra Ruin theme from Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. It's basically a reversed Hau'oli City theme that randomly goes louder and quieter, accompanied by white noise and some distorted sounds.

I’d actually say the drought ORAS theme is scarier than B2W2 N’s room. Again, it gives a sense of absolute hopelessness. With the rain, it gives a sense of urgency, since it has a faster tempo and some tone to it. With the drought, there’s *nothing*

4:15 this music really scared me as a kid. The location of this cave is actually a little tricky to find and easy to miss, it's at the far end of a pretty flower bed full of cute pokemon, so this cave definitely catches you off-guard. It took me a year to notice the small hole, I entered it and as soon as I heard the start of the music I was like NOPE! and got the heck out of there
That weird dissonant scale at the beginning makes it creepy
I love the Distortion World's music, it's a perfect buildup to the battle with Giratina.
underrated DW theme is a rare breed of such minor scary its soothingness and calmness more than make up for it amirite
In the Unown Radio theme, I can't help but hear "HURRY" … "RUN AWAY" … in the Unown cries.

When I played omega Ruby, 16:14 took me by surprise.
Some neat details I'd like to point out:
-The "odd sound effects" that you hear in the Hall of Origin theme are actually Dialga and Palkia's cries distorted and pitch shifted.
-In the BW2 version of N's Room, the tempo of the melody abruptly speeds up and slows down erratically, though you will have to pay very close attention to notice, as it is very subtle, likely adding to its unsettling, and tragic feel.
--The Team Galactic basement theme sounds reminiscent of 1940s-50s sci-fi film soundtracks, since there is what sounds like a theremin that is very prominent in it. Given that Team Galactic's designs and overall aesthetic were inspired by the costumes from that era of sci-fi films, it's likely that this theme also draws from the same source of inspiration.
Some personal opinions/comments on a few of the other tracks mentioned in the video:
-I actually didn't know that Team Rocket's theme was referenced in Viridian Forest until now, so that's an interesting and subtle detail.
-Lysandre's Cafe sounds more suspenseful to me more than anything. It kinda reminds me of the sort of music that will play during a tense moment in a Danganronpa game.
-The Distortion World theme is pretty interesting, because it sounds dark, but not evil, and has a slightly divine quality to it.
-The Ruins of Alph honestly just reminds me of a Zelda dungeon.
- I don't think I've heard the Radio Unown theme before, either that or I just don't remember. It's been ages since I played HeartGold.
-I've always found the Abandoned Thrifty Megamart interesting, because I always liked to think that the music was being played through the store's speakers, which at this point is old and glitchy, hence the panning cutting in and out alongside the soft electrical feedback. If you've ever listened to music on a really old and beat up radio, I'm sure you'll know what I mean.
-Drought is very fitting for its context because it sounds very post-apocalyptic, with the low bass alluding to the dry, scorching wave of heat that's hitting Hoenn. It would not sound out of place in the slightest if it were put over top a scene of the aftermath of a nuclear fallout.
-Not gonna lie, the Old Chateau is very cartoonishly and stereotypically haunted house music, but I think that's what gives it its charm. At the same time, it also sounds like something that the band Carach Angren would write, considering they love writing songs about ghost stories.

What I love, too, is how it's such subtle but powerful foreshadowing. I imagine most people missed this the first couple times they went in their first save. It's not in your face and it's just a LITTLE out of the way...which further assures that something definitely is wrong here.
Sun and Moon had such a beautiful and poetic plot twist compared to that of other Pokemon games. Like gen 6...bleh. Lysandre was an eh villain. Didn't really have that much of an effect on me. But Lusamine? Yes. The woman was driven insane thanks to Nihilego's influence on her. A being that isn't good or evil, it literally just causes pain to others so that it can live and survive. It's pretty deep tbh
Also, you have put the feeling that Arceus' theme gives off in much much much better wording than how I could have ever said it. I'll remember this
USM’s Ultra Ruin is creepy as all heaven and hell, buuuuut the game wasn’t out at the time of this list so I see why it wasn’t included.

They think it’s scary because they think Giratina is satan and the distortion world is a weird jumble of platforms and it’s Giratina’s home. Nobody cares that Giratina prevented Cyrus from destroying the universe. They just say, “oh it’s satan.”
The emptiness, the set up of a violent Pokemon banished, the feeling of you might get attacked, not to mention everything's at stake, everything is upside down (not like all the linear places you go in game...)

I just found out that Lysandre Cafe theme is actually entitled "Dark Skies". That's why it was hard to find
After number 2, I thought "wait, either N's Room or Strange House themes won't be into the top". It's nice to have tried to put a Kalos song but...
Glad that Po Town was added into this one, the eerie theme really doesn't get enough credit for how run-down and sad it sounds. The sounds of abandonment and fear mixed into one song. Sounding as though the song is expressing the sad story of Team Skull, and of their leader's tragic past, while also being sinister enough to indicate that you still should not be here. You do not belong with Team Skull, nor do you belong in their town. Your life was good, you got to succeed and become champion and save the world. But Team Skull only has each other, and once they lose that too, the town becomes nothing more than an empty shell of a memory that once desperately helped to protect a team of misfits for as long as they could still stand. And the music plays on.
Also, imagine a 10-year old me hacking D/P and finding an Arceus on Route 201. That's the scariest way to experience the Arceus theme. Ever.
The creepiest one for me has to be Distortion World's theme, because of how the place's puzzle works, you can very well be there for a loooong time, and with the precedent of Giratina jumpscares here and there, the fact how the music stops and then goes down makes you feel you're going into madness with each painful repetition on the theme.

Where was ultra ruin, the eerie setting of an old abandoned and destroyed hau’oli city with the music along side it is creepy enough, and then put the fact that we don’t know what exactly happened is terrifying

I was scared the first time I played Pokemon LG to be honest 😂
I'd go with the Yellow version, mainly because this is the only place where Pikachu gets really frightened when you talk to it, given how it's surrounded by dead pokemon as well as haunted ghosts

Honestly the early part of 8 sounded like music you would hear in those Roman war movies in the coliseum fights and the middle part of it sounds like a chase scene in a video game

i agree with a lot of these, since atmosphere has a lot to do with immersing myself in a game. dissonance is found in quite of few pokemon game tracks, and it’s honestly cool to me that you can find unsettling and creepy music in such seemingly innocent games. i always found mt moon, viridian forest, etc, as somewhat creepy when i was a kid, even though not many others would notice that. anyways, great remake of your old video, and your explainations of them is very helpful in relating to my personal experiences!

I think the theme for the Giant Chasm in Pokémon Black(2)/White(2) was also pretty haunting and desolate. It felt like you were entering a cold, lonely world, much like the cold Kyurem was frozen in. While the Chasm wasn't even frozen over by ice, the word "cold" just goes synonymous with the theme. Combine that with the legend of Lacunosa Town, that a "giant monster rises from the Chasm", and you get the feeling Kyurem was a cold, misunderstood creature who felt very lonely. After all. It's Zekrom and Reshiram constantly depicted in the legends as the guides of the Hero, with pretty much no mention of Kyurem. That's kind of sad, honestly. The third legendary dragon of the Unova region gets no positive attention and is pretty much feared... #JusticeForKyurem, people!
For some reason, the Lysandre’s Cafè theme scared the shit out of me the first time I heard it while playing X
N's room is really relaxing, in a way that it us still sad and sorta creepy.
n's room theme feels like u in an empty room with a creepy broken ballerina doll that dances in front of u and when she done she will do a jumpscare.. yikes..
And then Guzzlord's theme kicks in.

I like how you started off with the Viridian Forest. It’s definitely a great use of the minor key, and enough to kick a scare out of a new trainer.
The Café was definitely a musical bridge by intent, judging by the fact that it’s a very short loop. It is certainly at least a bit scary.
Haina is creepy in context, but without it, it feels a bit more ambient and less scary. The way it loops like the aircheck of K.K. Lullaby is enough to scare me at least a little though.
Opinion on Seaward is commented on the first video, it’s pointless to repeat it.
Distortion World? Creepy? Barely. It’s personally a favorite track of mine. It’s a little spooky, but not enough to get me quaking in my boots. Then again, this IS the home of a Lovecraftian beast, so weirdness is to be expected.
Oh god, Alph. Haven’t been there yet, but I’ve heard the music enough to know how foreboding the place is. Solaceon’s Ruins are a cakewalk compared to the emotional strength you need to get through there.
Mmm yes, Aether’s Lower Ward. An excellent composition, minimalist yet absolutely terrifying. With two locked sectors it’s hard not to be afraid of it.
Po Town wasn’t creepy for me, but it loses a lot of its mood without the rain ambient track running in the background. It’s certainly a great use of the piano, almost in a way that BOTW took advantage of it a little while later.
Arceus’s battle theme...something I haven’t gotten to hear till now. What’s even more frightening is if you listen to that while you’re staring at its unused “???”-type sprite.
Full opinion on first version. Yeah. This is music. There’s instrumentation and it can be mapped to sheet music but with better results than mapping a movie to an MIDI keyboard. There’s also some sort of melody.
Full opinion on Hall of Origin in the first version of the video. The Press Start screens from DP and Pt are still terrifying in their own right.
Thrifty Megamart opinion is on the previous video’s comments. Pictures are in fact legible, at least some of them are.
Drought was terrifying in RSE, and it gets even worse with the orchestration.

Bah, you keep forgetting Pokémon Tower. While N’s Room (B2W2) is still certainly creepy...Pokémon Tower is still pretty darn up there at my list.
I love how you bring music theory into this - not everyone does and it’s something that should be mentioned! It further sells the point as to WHY it’s so terrifying, especially if you can understand it.
Look, I know Lavender Town is a cliché at this point, but it definitely deserves a spot on this list. Same with Pokémon Tower.
