I don't think that Trump is going to win. However, either way things are going to be bad. It's a short-term vs long-term issue. If he wins it's a long-term problem in terms of policy and our place on the world stage. If he loses, I expect a short-term problem immediately with a violent repeat of chaos.
That said, my daughter and I made the move to Costa Rica this past August and my mom plans to retire here as well. She was planning on retiring at the beginning of Jan 2025 to get her full retirement funds, but I told her that I don't think that she can wait that long with the way things are in the States. I expect that there is going to be lots of people trying to leave the US regardless of the election results and it is possible that other counties will start limiting who can and cannot come into their country or how - speaking to the point of making more difficult requirements.
Black people need to be making plans to move if possible and if not, they need to figure out ways to essentially "shelter in place" as if a hurricane is coming. That means making sure you have food and water on hand, medical supplies and cash. Take a page out of the apocalyptic prepper handbook and make sure that your house is in order.

Thank you Ashley for sharing your heart. As an American African, I had also taken a leap of faith to depart to the Motherland and landed in Kenya on U.S. Election Day 2020. I wasn't taking any chances and was of the same mind then pretty much as to the state of mind that you were aroud that same time. The migration of Jews from pre-World War II Europe and the contemporary migration of African descendants from the Western world to Africa, while rooted in vastly different historical and geopolitical contexts, share some thematic similarities that reflect broader human desires for safety, belonging, and self-determination. These similarities can be understood through several lenses:
Just as European Jews sought to escape the oppressive regimes and the imminent threat of violence in their home countries before World War II, African descendants today may seek to leave environments where we face racial discrimination, social injustice, or economic disparities. The motivation behind both migrations is a search for a safer environment where they can live without fear of persecution or systemic racism.
For many Jews migrating away from Europe before the Holocaust, the move was not only about safety but also about finding a place where they could freely practice their religion and culture. Similarly, African descendants moving to Africa often describe our journey as a form of safe refuge, of returning home-a way to reconnect with their ancestral lands, cultures, and communities. This reclamation of identity and heritage is a powerful driver of migration, offering a sense of belonging and connection that may have been elusive in diaspora.
The economic motivations behind migration also bear similarities. Just as some Jews sought countries that offered more economic opportunities and the chance to rebuild their lives away from the economic turmoil of post-World War I Europe, African descendants today are attracted to Africa's growing economies, entrepreneurial opportunities, and the potential to contribute to the continent's development. This migration is often seen as a chance to escape the economic ceilings and systemic barriers encountered in the West.
Both groups have shown a strong desire to build and contribute to communities that reflect their values and aspirations. Jewish migrants sought to establish communities where mutual support and shared cultural practices could flourish. Similarly, African descendants moving to Africa often speak of building communities that uphold values of unity, support, and collective progress, contributing to local development and fostering a sense of pan-African solidarity.
Despite the hopeful aspects of migration, both groups have faced challenges in their new homes, including integration, restrictive immigration policies, acceptance by the local population, and navigating the legal and social frameworks of their new countries. The complexity of establishing a new life in a different cultural and political context is a shared experience, requiring adaptation and resilience.
While these parallels draw on the universal themes of migration for safety, identity, and opportunity, it's important to recognize the unique circumstances and historical contexts of each group's migration. The Jewish exodus from Europe before World War II was a flight from imminent genocide, while the migration of African descendants to Africa is influenced by a complex interplay of contemporary racial dynamics perceived also as a form of genocide, economic factors, and a desire for cultural reconnection. Both migrations, however, underscore the profound impact of historical legacies and the ongoing search for a place to call home, where dignity, safety, and identity are preserved and celebrated.

Look at who produces the majority of your food. Look at who owns the majority of land and general wealth in the country you are in right now. Look at where the majority of your country's foreign reserves are stored. That'll give you an idea of how "unaffected" you'd be by who gets elected in the U.S. if you live abroad as an American.

It is in the DNA of Europeans to hate...When Europeans lived in Europe without immigrants from elsewhere they looked down on each other & fought many tribal wars between French, Anglos, Germans, Russians etc..Their history is just too bloody
