The question is how much do you need. There is plenty of people in middle America earning $50k a year who live very happy fulfilling lives. Big City life in general is stressful because people are isolated, do not feel so connected besides crime issues. I doubt Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates are the happiest people in the world.
Elon Musk has multiple baby mamas, Jeff Bezos divorced, Bill Gates divorced. Money means so much more to those who don’t have it.

Please note that African countries are different, culturally, politically, and economically. I have been to about 35 African countries. I found South Africa to be most livable for ADOS (Black Americans). There are many similarities and attitudes that make South Africa easier to live. However, it should be common sense to not move to a country or any place where you don’t have income to sustain yourself.

I used to look forward to those trips because I had friends to hang out with. In those days I used to go to clubs: the Carnivore, Florida, etc. This was a long time ago. I even attended a Kenyan wedding. I was in peoples' homes I loved the way that everybody took care and looked out for the children, Yes, Kenya was great, but...that was then how is it now?@@Njitagwo_Shiro

    Revolutionary Greetings Ashley 👑
I'm not sure if you recall when I first started watching your podcast months before you moved to South Africa 🌍
I've mentioned that, I've lived in Mzanzi for 27 and a half years.
As I've mentioned at that time that my experiences were very filled with many twists and turns ups and downs.
With regards to your choice to do your best to make South Africa your home for yourself and your beautiful family, one thing that I've learned is that to build community with people who genuinely have your best interest in mind.
Out of all the many people who I've encountered I can say that there are only three people who remain a genuine supportive friendship with my family and I.
That what I found out is that it's not Who you are But it's all about Who Wants to Know You.
Time's have gotten harder since when I first arrived in 1990, But I want to encourage you that should you align with good people and create a Sence of community for yourself and your children then God Almighty will take care of you.

I think that whatever we start with is often what we end with (internally). If you have the "it" factor and are successful at things in life, it's easier wherever you go. You can take nothing and make something. I'm glad you found happiness. Wish I had done it earlier in life.

    Hi Ashley.
Have you considered booking a venue around Joburg and sharing your experiences in front of a live audience " your followers", where you can share and we can ask questions in a live engagement set up🙏🙏🙏. I would definitely be the 1st in attendance together with a couple of friends.
    Please consider ❤❤❤.
    .
    Love from South Africa 🌱🌱🌱🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿.

What stands out about this young lady’s podcast was the title that she moved to Africa without a plan. I trust she is doing well. It is possible to live in the United States however if you don’t have an outline for the future you won’t have a reference guide to look at when detours arise, (and they will) she seems to be so caring I think her gift would have worked well here in the U.S. the basics are important food, shelter, utilities, reliable transportation proper schools for her children. My wife and I 40 years of marriage made many financial mistakes along the way however when we started planning it sharpened our vision. Ohh the biggest mistake we made cost us $420,000 dollars being in debt cost you your time and future. It was the grace of God that kept us that debt? It’s paid in full. To our sister just have a feeling you will be coming back praying for you and your family

What is the parental leave rule in South Africa?
7 December, 2023In a case that will transform how maternity and parental leave is taken in South Africa, the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg ruled that working parents can take turns in taking the four months' maternity leave. Previously, maternity leave applied only to the “pregnant mother.”07 Dec 2023

Good to hear about living experiences in other countries. Happy to hear everything worked out for you. You said you wished you would’ve saved more but you saved more than others. Would have been helpful to know those numbers. How much do most ppl save to move abroad? How much did you save? When you say it should’ve been higher, what would a good amount for someone to feel and live comfortably while they figure out their new income and lifestyle? Context is everything.

This was a refreshing video. My wife is South African (she's Sepedi). We've been married for 5 years and have 2 children. We have made the decision to make the move to South Africa. I'm in IT (a Sys Admin.), and she's a stay at home wife. We're planning as best as we know how. What would be you're suggested amount of savings to have before we move? And what do you recommend in terms of other panning?

This depends on what kind of VISA you get when you move. A Business VISA will allow you to start your own business there. I do not know if a SPOUSAL VISA will allow you to start a business or get a job in SA. You really don't want to get a JOB in SA anyway because they are low paying. It would be much better to get paid in USD or EUROS by having your own online business, retirement income, or some other passive income. If you get a business visa its a lot cheaper to start a business than in the USA.
I would recommend a stable income either from your own ONLINE business or remote work that will pay you in AMERICAN dollars or EUROS or some form of passive / retirment income. In that case you will need remote work with an American or EU company. You do not want to get a job in SA or require income from inside SA. The idea is to get paid in FOREIGN currency and to do that you need your own online business, USA retirement income or other passive income, or remote work from USA or EU based company. You can live comfortably in South Africa on just $1000 USD per month if you live very modestly but this depends on the type of lifestyle you want to live. I would say make atleaset $2500 USD per month or more.
Not including plane tickets and other travel expenses I would say you need 15K - 20K minimum in savings especially if you want to purchase a used car when you arrive. You can find a nice house to rent for about $300 - $600 USD per month and appliances there are a lot cheaper than the US but also smaller in size. Purchasing appliances will be one of your first biggest expenses above rent. You will need atleast one used car which will run you about 3k - 6k depending on how nice of a used car you want.. Most cars in SA are smaller size vehicles.
Food is cheaper than the USA but not dirt cheap. Expect to pay about 30% - 60% of what you would pay in the USA.
With a savings and a USA or EU based form of income outside of South Africa you will find life financially easier than the USA.

There are many of us especially in Western countries where the objective is to maintain the cogs in the machine. Many of us who instead of living our life’s purpose entrap ourselves in a construct based on outside responsibilities and opinions. The house, car, family members who give advice that they can only provide based on their perspectives. There are outside forces that create a construct that is not really your reality but only what you believe it to be. The only reason I personally haven’t sold everything and moved to the continent is out of fear it will damage my youngest daughter. However, if I stay in an unhealthy relationship with a partner who has quietly quit their position this will not only send the wrong message but also block my blessings. I heard a voice as clear as day say, you need a wife not a roommate. So, I've made a conscious decision in 2023 to move entirely on faith.
So, to live without purpose or faith is a slow and painful demise. Change must be embraced! Also, we must acknowledge that time is finite. Change can be painful but stagnation can leave the soul destitute.
Your strength is Inspirational Queen! 👑

I’m so glad you learned that about America.
Being an African in America it’s hard to find happiness in the divided chaos.
Love and community is way more valuable than American capitalism and clout.
I’m happy you are happy ❤. For African men born in America it’s hard to be happy.
