Rising prices have affected my intention of quitting my part-time, and building my savings. I'm worried about whether individuals who weathered the 2008 financial crisis found it less challenging than my current situation. The stock market's volatility, coupled with a reduced income, is making me anxious about having enough for retirement.
This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform.

To be honest I don't think there's anything wrong in being part of someone else's plan, as long as you're aware of it and you've made that decision on your own
Although, sometimes we buy things to save hours, too. I got a new mower and it's far more efficient than the one I got for free. The higher end paint and the 15 dollar Wooster cutting brushes help speed things up for me, too. Higher quality tools get jobs done faster.
This hit so hard. We all fear of failure because of social stereotypes. But regret in life is more severe. We have to find our “why”, our values in this world, and our “me”.
The whole point of making money is to have freedom to do what you want in life. If you have to work every waking hour until the grave, it completely defeats the purpose.
It was your boss's error to find himself in the situation that he couldn't even let his associate visit a dying relative. What a failure as a lawyer, as a boss. What a failure as a human being.
The words that changed my life direction were "Money is the drug they give you to forget your dreams". That hit me like a gut punch and motivated me to start my own business.

I quit at 35 so I can spend more time with my husband, create memories, and focus on health. The day we paid off our house and became debt free that was it. You dont need millions to retire, invest but also focus on the now, because we dont know how much time we have. :)

I worked for 2 Big 5 accountancy companies 20+ years ago as a tax lawyer. In short: horrible experience! 3 out of 5 of my room mates were burned out or were on medical leave and I remember saying goodbye to someone leaving the company almost on a weekly basis. Toxic, horrible work environment. But when you are young (20's/ 30's) you think that you have to "sell" yourself to get ahead, which is not true at all. Currently, I have my own small law firm. I help people, and I am appreciated. And I make enough money to buy my first home.
For those of us in the legal world, this woman is a gem. Seriously. It's hard to explain what's she's been through without seeing it first hand, but this woman has worked countless hours to achieve a dream then had the balls to quit that job and pursue her own path. May her Grandfather Rest in Peace, I'm sure he's proud of her. And may she live in regret no longer.
My grandmother passed away and I missed out on the last few hours with her because of work... I empathize so much. Thank you for having the courage to share this. It helps me with my regret too. Your story is priceless to me 💞
You said it perfectly :as a lawyer who has been lucky enough to work laterally from the profession I can so appreciate this lady's sentiments. Lawyers tragically are slaves not to money but to status. Just tell any fellow lawyer 'if I had a chance to work for double the. Money as a bin man I would happily do so and watch their face'. I deploy this statement and instantly discover so much. The longer one stays in lawyer the more disappointed and regretful kindred spirits one meets.

Folks, it's an elitist attitude to think that only lawyers trade their time for money. That has become the "American dream" - the small business owner is rare. The majority of us work for corporations where we're just a number and if we don't like the 'abuse' well, don't let the door hit you in the a** on your way out.

Hi. I'm a 58-year old man who has been working everyday for the last 15 years. And this video has opened my eyes. I don't want to have regret. Thank you for so much for sharing your story. You can add another one to the thousand you have helped. You are so strong and amazing. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for publishing this video! There’s nothing worse than being controlled. Feeling like someone else owns your time is a horrible feeling when you simply need an inch
I am not a lawyer, but a doctor. I see this in my profession all the time, too. Somehow hard work and long hours are truly glamorized, you're totally right. I only took one week off of work when my youngest daughter was born--simply to prove I was as hardworking and tough as the men I worked with. I "quit" shortly after. I now work less than 30 hours a week in my own private practice. Much less pay for MUCH MORE FREEDOM and HAPPINESS! Thanks for this video.
Hi Amy, thank you so much for sharing! I'm so sorry to hear this but happy that you have your own practice now - congratulations! It's true. I can't remember if I mentioned it in the video, but I think a lot of the pressure I put on myself was to prove that I was equal to the men.

We read news in the media that doom and gloom is coming and we just accept it, doom and gloom doesn’t always have to be coming, I’ve read numerous success stories of people that are pulling off tremendous gains of up to $250K within weeks in this crazy market and I just want to learn how to achieve such figures.
Since the crash, I've been in the red. I’m playing the long term game, so I'm not too worried but Jim Cramer mentioned there are still a lot of great opportunities, though stocks has been down a lot. I also heard news of a guy that made $250k from about $110k since the crash and I would really look to know how to go about this.
Exactly why i enjoy market decisions being guided by a pro , seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk management and market experience , been using a portfolio-coach for over 2years+ and I've netted over $3million in that time frame.
"Regret implies you had the opportunity to do something differently but you choose not to." That really resonates. Congratulations on getting your priorities straight, and more importantly finding the courage to believe in yourself. Nice video!
No matter what we do, we will regret not doing the other thing and taking the alternate path. Think carefully before we make a serious decision and find peace in the decision we have made

This seems like the worst period.Even the markets are very unpredictable.started investing recently when the market prices were a bit high, today i am more than 60% down
I started investing about 2 years ago. But with the way things are going, I honestly do not see my self making a million box anytime soon. I trade on stocks but my profit and loss margin are grossly miles apart
The best course of action if you lack ma-rket knowledge is to ask a consultant or invest-ing co-ach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a con-sultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my port-folio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.
Your grampa would be so proud of you and how much you're positively impacting a lot of people in need!! You have no idea how much this video touched me. I needed to hear this kind of message today. Thank you !
Please don’t delete this video! I think this message is something people hear a lot but can’t hear enough. No B-rolls or over-use of fancy typography to keep your audience visually entertained - just a simple face-to-face message with your moving story because the topic matter is so relevant to so many people that a sit down is all it needed. P.S. I’m sorry to hear about your loss and regret. It’s heartbreaking to hear how your boss (likely being puppeteered by his own boss) handled the situation knowing damn well that if he were on his deathbed, he’d want his family to visit. I hope you find peace in what you’re doing now and what a great way to honor your grandpa’s memory ❤️
"I fear regret more than I fear failure" - this is the true path to finding fulfilment. Success is inevitable if you keep working and learning from your failures. But lost time is lost forever. You are so brave and inspiring! Wish you the very best ❤️
Not really you shouldn't fear anything since you should act so you don't leave regrets and failure is just a process to success no one can achieve success without failures along the way but no one talks about the failures usually only the achievements and success. That is why having your own job is the best, since working for someone means they own you for that amount of time to do a certain task. In reality we haven't changed from the slave system, it is a system with make up so people can't tell they are just slaves to it.
Erika, Great story. I also have a son who was in Big Law in DC. I was very proud of him when he landed this big law job but I am even more proud of him when he had the courage to walk away from a multi 6 figure salary to follow his passion. I know that most immigrant Asian parents push their kids to succeed at all cost but as an immigrant parent myself I can say that there is nothing more important than health and happiness for your kids.
You are absolutely correct for walking away. When we sign on to our high paying jobs, we work for blood money. Our freedom to do what we want to do, what we need to do for our souls is more important than the money we make realizing someone else's bidding.
Your grandpa would be so proud! You're inspiring people like me to quit our jobs and satisfy that hunger to use our skills and knowledge to support others and their dreams. 💛
He'd be proud that she didn't say no to her boss so that she could come spend the last hours of his life with him? Sorry to hear about your grandfather. I’m sorry you missed those last hours. Thank you for sharing such a personal story. It was very brave of you to be so authentic and real. I wish you the very best in life.
From being unemployed to actually deciding not to take a 9-5 job, it has been more than a year now, I have never learnt so fast in life, the motivation is real. my body has never felt better
“I fear regret more that failure” wow. I felt this so deeply. That line alone answers how I’ve been feeling about “living my life” without the guilt of not being too accessible and forgetting me.
Quitting sometimes leads one to a much higher level. Just like when I quit my high paying position in order to take care of my mother who was hospitalized and was put into ICU. Guess what, when she was discharged and has fully recovered we were able to improve our family business and I was able to do multiple side hustles that enabled me to earn more than the job which I left.
They keyword is "sometimes". There are no guarantees that simply going for it will lead to success. Afterall, there are many unsuccessful businesses. However, if you think you can fly, then there is a possibility that you can, so you owe it to yourself to at least try. If you fail, pat yourself on the back and acknowledge the fact that you got further than most people, because most people aren't willing to try due to the fear of failure.
Such an important message and delivered so authentically. Got a bit emotional watching this - I'm sure your grandpa is super proud of the bold actions you've taken and I'm very happy for you. Thank you for sharing your story 🙏

So needed to hear this Erika! I am nurse who had to step away from the bedside when my husband almost lost his life in 2021 due to illness! We are in our 20s and our lives were turned upside down. Everyone told it wasn’t possible, but I found a remote job that allows me to stay home with my husband and still grow as a nurse. Now I share our story on RUclips and through our podcast. We can do anything we set our minds to, specially when it’s all about helping others!
Thank you Erika. You are already helping people like myself by sharing this testament. We're told that there is a certain way to live life and be successful, but at what cost? I was working on a project once and a team member of ours commuted in weekly from another city. His young son got really sick and was hospitalized. He asked his boss if he could fly back home and work from home so he could be close to his son... Our boss said to him "Is he really that sick?" and did not allow him to go home... That's when you need to contemplate and start making life changing decisions.
I grew up wanting to make an impact too on society. After over 30 years, I decided that enuff is enuff. The more I work with pple for people, the more I like my dog.

I found this video in a roundabout way, just as I was questioning my decision to take a promotion for a job I don't even like. I felt a lot of pressure to accept because it was "the next logical step" and now I'm miserable. No amount of money makes up for being too busy to enjoy life. You've given me a lot to think about and reflect on. Can't wait to see more.
Amazing. At the beginning of this video I was thinking $250K/ year is more money than I could ever imagine. After hearing your story, I'm thinking, that doesn't come close to what my time with my family is worth to me. Money shouldn't be the point, life is the point.
Perfectly said, no amount of money will get you your time back. Regrets make one so unhappy that all those fancy objects still can't take away the pain.
A 100 hours a week is not a 250K a year job. Effectively you're making the same as a UPS worker. When you calculate the actual hourly rate you're working, it hits home.
😂😂😂 it IS a 250k a year job! It may not be that great but doesn't mean she's not making that per year. Also that would be about $48 an hour. UPS drivers make about $15 an hour.
I’m so happy to come across this video. I feel a lot of pressure to find my passion in a career, but I finally realized that I am doing exactly what I’ve wanted to do since I was a child. I’m a housewife/stay at home mom and I absolutely love it. I was very much a latch key kid and always wanted to have a sahm like my friends. It means everything to me that I can spend as much time with my son as possible, really know him and what’s going on in his life, know his friends, and have him know that he is incredibly loved, important, and absolutely the best thing that has ever happened to me. Thank you so much for speaking on your decision and your why ♥️
It's time to push back against these bosses and companies with the "burn em and turn em" mentality. My mentor's best advice to me -- "You have to learn how to say 'No' without guilt. Great message Erika!
Thank you Erika for sharing this! I can totally relate. I am also in legal in HongKong and found a job at a small local firm that gives me the balance I need for developing my side hustles. From time to time when I hang with my law school friends who are all in big city firms and work in IPOs & M&A, majority of the conversation would be around the package, fancy dinners, the big deals with high profile clients, which one of our classmates has jumped to a much bigger firm etc. it is hard not to feel alone and start comparing my own circumstances with theirs. Considering I'm still in my late 20s, I keep thinking whether I should be more ambitious given this is the "prime time". But then everytime when I get home, knowing that my 8-hour sleep is waiting for me and that I do not have to respond to clients/bosses once I leave the office, I feel that I make the right decision for myself. I guess at the end of the day, we just have to figure out what is best for OURSELVES and not simply trying to be someone else because society rewards "successful people".
These are very valuable info for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. I have about $109k now to put in the market.
Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. I know someone who made over $350k in this recession influenced market, but to the best of my knowledge, it was through a financial advisor.
Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least $121k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.
Cant reveal much info, Kate Elizabeth Amdall is the shrewd advisor responsible for my portfolio success, it's only right you look her up and confirm yourself.
I was sooo mad when you said you never did take those extra hours with your grandpa like nothing would've stopped me tbh. But if through him passing is what gave you the courage to not waste and actually live then i'm sure he would've been proud knowing the final gift he was able to give you was the courage to live your life.
I'm in a Similar situation and am putting my notice in today. I've struggled because I know they need me but have had to let go of the idea that it's my problem. My family needs me and I can make just as much and more somewhere else while working less. I have to do it for me and my family. I'm tired of being tired and stressed to do so much because I get "paid so much".
I did it and the best part is she actually asked how she could make my position better or who she should be looking for in a new candidate. That's all I could really ask for.

What an incredible message! Erika, I'm so happy you walked away and am doing what makes you accomplish your whys. This is my favorite video of 2020. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Honestly, I’m glad that I watched this video later on. I learned this lesson while perusing law school. I have a very modest living. I am not rich, nor do I have the desire. I work 40 hours a week but those evenings with my family and weekends with myself are what I live for. I feel richer having memories as opposed to a million dollars.
I know that almost noone can see to the heart of this argument, but I believe that passive income is one the major problems in our society. Income is truly never passive. Someone is actively creating that income. The person who is creating that income is also most likely getting much less that he/she created. Just because I'm stronger, tougher, and a better combatant than you doesn't mean that I should take advantage of you. The same should be said about income.
Really incredible story. Same things happened to me when I started my career in NYC. I missed the last chance with my grandfather due to work and I’ll regret it forever. Like you, I learned the lesson early and never let a company own me again. Thank you for sharing.
Yes, we must have the discipline to stand up for ourselves even when it feels risky. Otherwise end up like so many unhappy and miserable old people whose whole life was nothing more than so many hours at work and no time to enjoy life.
Truly inspirational story Erika. You are blessed to learn that lesson so early in your career. Thanks for sharing your story. I am confident you will change so many lives. Keep up the great work! (PS - Your Grandfather IS proud of you! I believe he sees what you are doing...)
This is an important offering. You traded an impressive paycheck for a life of purpose and meaning. I think that your grandfather would be proud that you have the courage to live your values. Thanks for your inspiring message.
It's so crazy how, here, in Tanzania, these kind of scenarios aren't common. The culture here is to sympathize with any employee that is going through such an experience (a dying relative that you need to see asap) we also pay each other visits when a co worker's relative passes away, there's even a culture of contributing money as a sort of condolences to push the grieving coworker forward a little while they adjust. (Mostly applies to when a father, mom, sister, brother, close guardian, mother and father in law and spouse, passes) When I get the chance to work for the most prestigious firm in the country I'll come and update you all on this. But so far, my past experiences show how much of a difference there is with firms in Tanzania and elsewhere.
You’re still a country bumpkin! - and you know what keep it that way! That’s far better than the big corporates in the big city life! It’s a way to destruction! You’re blessed to be in a community that still cares…society misses that!😭 Blessings in His Name!🙏
Wow, I’m devastated to hear that you missed those precious hours with your grandpa but if that’s the last lesson he was able to impart to you, what a gift it was 💕
This is heartbreaking. So sorry for your loss and the pain of the regret. It’s really hard to draw lines. Today’s culture, at least in America is hustle until you are burnt out. Not every country is like this. It’s just not healthy and life is too short. I quit my job in October because the big corporation I worked for didn’t care that I was a single parent and told me I had to work nights at a store an hour away. They didn’t care about me as a human, my child, my mental health anything but getting a warm body into that store so they could keep making money. I knew that was it. It was either quit and make a stand or be fired for not being able to make the shifts because I didn’t have childcare. I’ve been starting a business and I feel so good about my choice. It hasn’t been easy but it’s definitely been worth it. I can spend time with my daughter & family whenever I want and if I’m sick I don’t have to ask for the day off. It’s so freeing and I feel human again.
Erika, you’re an inspiration for everyone, and I’m so sorry to hear about the situation that happened with your Grandfather. Thank you for sharing your story!!
I cried! Got so emotional when you started talking about your dad. This hits home. Thank you for sharing. I’m actually so nervous quitting my highest paid job ever tomorrow; with no backup plan. Taking the time to relieve stress and start fresh. Money isn’t everything! This video resonated so much. Thank you again!
The fact that your grandfather's passing made you realize your purpose in life will be his greatest gift to you. If I was a grandfather or father, and my passing had this impact on my descendants, I would feel so blessed. I hope you succeed in your mission to help people. This video certainly will.
Erika, that fact you accomplished law school & passed the bar exam is a feat to itself. I'm so glad you set your priorities (the value of time & family). Too many place their self worth on where they work & how much they earn, but forget that in exchange, the boss dictates their time leading to a poor quality of life with just paying more taxes & accomplishing someone or some entity (in your case, the Big law firm) goals. It takes a lot of courage to fly away from the flock, but all who accomplished their dreams dare to fly higher than the rest setting out their own destiny.

Mind if I ask you to recommend this particular coach you using their service?

"I fear regret more than I fear Failure" - I just found your channel, thank you for being so inspiring!!
Yes, I love this quote. Powerful message.
Fear is:
False Evidence Appearing Real
99% will fail and will regret.
2 in 1 combo!

If more people realized this than those caught up in chasing their next elitist fix, the whole world would be a much better place.

@@SherrieHatch07 my metric is what do you earn for 40 hours a week. Overtime should not be included.

Thank you Jason!
Wow!!!!! So true
Wow! 😲

Mind if I ask you to recommend how to reach this particular coach you using their service? Seems you've figured it all out unlike the rest of us.
Cant reveal much info, Kate Elizabeth Amdall is the shrewd advisor responsible for my portfolio success, it's only right you look her up and confirm yourself.
I just checked her out and I have sent her an email. I hope she gets back to me soon.
I was sooo mad when you said you never did take those extra hours with your grandpa like nothing would've stopped me tbh. But if through him passing is what gave you the courage to not waste and actually live then i'm sure he would've been proud knowing the final gift he was able to give you was the courage to live your life.
Man I felt the same way! And her grandpa passing, was indeed his last gift. :)
Damn
🥲
Very well said
You made it already. Emotional and intelligent level.
I am 100% with you. Family is the most important!
Congratulations Virginia! Family is the most important! I am rooting for you!
I did it and the best part is she actually asked how she could make my position better or who she should be looking for in a new candidate. That's all I could really ask for.
Making the first 100k has been a marathon, I am 26 and at 75k mark, No useless spending, no vacations, just work, save and most importantly invest, thanks to my fiduciary Mr Arlto Eric, I am blessed and I believe I will keep been blessed
Amazing. great path to make and retain money, please share your fiduciary link for me
I stopped believing in anything a long time ago, I have had to stand and fight for myself and family but 75k at 26 years is quite a milestone so cheers
Arltoeric that's his gmai okay
Thank you for your response
I just mailed mr Eric now for assistance starting investments
Trading living life for wealth. Odd how many take this path.
What an incredible message! Erika, I'm so happy you walked away and am doing what makes you accomplish your whys. This is my favorite video of 2020. Thank you for sharing it with us.
That means SO much!! Thank you Lisa! Wishing you the best 2021 :)
Passive income had such a dramatic impact on my life. Earning passive income has helped my family reach so many goals.
What are your passive income? If you don’t mind, can you share? 😅
@@kenstar3692 if I write a book and I get royalties from it for the rest of my life, who am I taking advantage of?
@A Z you forgot the business and royalty income though. 😅
Really incredible story. Same things happened to me when I started my career in NYC. I missed the last chance with my grandfather due to work and I’ll regret it forever. Like you, I learned the lesson early and never let a company own me again. Thank you for sharing.
We must all suffer one of the two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret
This is an AWESOME quote!
Yes, we must have the discipline to stand up for ourselves even when it feels risky. Otherwise end up like so many unhappy and miserable old people whose whole life was nothing more than so many hours at work and no time to enjoy life.
The magic words are at 3:52. And I really felt my life made so much sense now. Thanks Erika!
The culture here is to sympathize with any employee that is going through such an experience (a dying relative that you need to see asap)
we also pay each other visits when a co worker's relative passes away, there's even a culture of contributing money as a sort of condolences to push the grieving coworker forward a little while they adjust. (Mostly applies to when a father, mom, sister, brother, close guardian, mother and father in law and spouse, passes)
When I get the chance to work for the most prestigious firm in the country I'll come and update you all on this.
@@aleftav12 I truly see that🙌🏾🙌🏾
Its hard out there. I hope things change for the better
How are you now?
Qutting with no plan isn't the smartest thing...
The fact that your grandfather's passing made you realize your purpose in life will be his greatest gift to you. If I was a grandfather or father, and my passing had this impact on my descendants, I would feel so blessed. I hope you succeed in your mission to help people. This video certainly will.
I was going to say this! (but in a way less eloquent manner). Agreed 💯 !
Yup I know he made a sacrifice of their last meeting for her to have a more meaningful life. Well done grandpa
That feeling when you quit a toxic job is pure bliss.

If the company does not even offer sick days or bereavement, they don't respect their workers.
In reality...You didn’t quit. You just started. Great things coming for you!
