Brillian. My garage door is in great shape, and I'm unable to find the replacement hinge. Just take care of the screws. I obviously wasn't thinking right.
Thank you for this tip. I had it happen on two panels and so far this solution has worked. Will I eventually have to replace those panels? If so, do you have a video on that.
Where Can I buy those center hinges and screws? I have exact same problem. I am not able to find them in Home Depot. Can you please help me providing the hardware shop name?
Ultimately, it’s a bad design to put screws into a soft material. They should have done it with metal plates. It’s been a temporary fix, and it will likely need to be replaced soon
I used this same method a few years ago, and it lasted about 2 years before failing again. I am pretty sure that there is an alignment issue which is creating extra stress, since technically the upper panels are not load bearing, since the load is all on the spring and cable that runs along the side and lifts the bottom panel. Carriage bolts likely is a better long term solution, but not attractive as it is seen from the outside panel. Curious if anyone has tried JB Weld to reinforce the area?
Thank you! Made my repair quick and painless.

Oh my this is exactly what happened to my garage. Thank you for sharing this
It’s helpful to note that this is a Wayne Dalton door. Most garage doors won’t have hinges like this, only WD.
Thank you, being a home owner is not for the weak
Mine too. Thanks for the video. I installed some middle hinges closer to the end one also.
Which hinges did you get? The ones at my local menards were way too oversized
Late to the party... Enjoyed the video. The square bit is known as a Robertson bit, much more common in Canada than the US.
Thanks mate you just saved my day
thank you for sharing this sir. This is exactly what I need

Thanks. This worked for me. I had the same problem.
This helped a lot. Thanks
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the very insight and helpful overview.

If I replace them I’ll make a video. It’s holding up okay for now
What is the screw size to use for this door hinge?

Danny. How has your garage been holding up after doing this? I have the same problem now with my garage door.

You're welcome
I put a carriage bolt all the way through. had no other option.
Do you know what those brackets/hinges are called?
There are many sizes and styles but after some measuring you can find them on Amazon. Here is my affiliate link amzn.to/4fyQkqj
How did you get the metal piece behind the bracket/hinge off of the frame?

that's what happens when you buy a cheap Wayne Dalton door
So what brand door is not a cheap door? We can’t help it if a WD door was already on our home when we buy our home.
Haas makes a good door, and so does chi. Wayne caters to the national builders and has poor quality and cheap construction.
I will try to do it with Woodglut plans.
Wayne Dolton doors are garbage!
