Too bad you sold off all of the singles, Rucka's Punisher run is the perfect length for a custom bind! I also really dug Rosenberg's run. Good list! That earlier Punisher material is a blind spot for me as well.
This was a great video, thank you! I managed to find all three Edmondson paperbacks after watching this video, and I absolutely love them. It would be great to get similar top 5-10 videos about some of those bit darker Marvel characters who don't yet have many Omnibus', such as Elektra, Black Widow, Moon Knight, Blade and Nick Fury. Thanks!
To: The Omnibus Collector / I think Mrvl would probably do a Red Thunderbolts OHC, or HC. An Omni? Probably not. But hey! We can always hope! I’m new here, I come by way of Near Mint Condition. Gotta’ I admire your detailed Storyline Mapping, WoW!! Great Video! (Ps) It’s been years, can you at least speak in general overview, on Edmondson being fired? Alledged: Harassment? Theft? Disagreement with Editorial? (Ps-2) Frank Castle is a favorite of mine, this was the BEST 40 minute - comic book character publishing history, I’ve ever heard. Hands down. Damn! WoW! - Thank You!
YOU ARE DOING THE LORD'S WORK MR. MOORE. Also, as someone who has read most of that earlier material, those also deserve omnis! Edit: Not a flex, but I was lucky enough to find each Rucka tpb for $6 each on ebay out of nowhere a couple months ago and scooped them up immediately. I had been looking for them for years and couldn't believe it. Let's hope for the omni my brother.
Definitely Rucka and Edmondson's runs. Best runs after Ennis and Aaron. That's really stupid if we don't get Edmondson's Punisher and Black Widow runs collected, because of the allegations. Writers allegations shouldn't matter when publishing already existing fantastic material that everybody should read.
I'm the opposite in that (aside from Ennis) everything I've read of Punisher comes before 1995. I know the original series and War Journal series, so this video was good info about other runs to maybe jump into. Also I just learned about all the stuff about Edmondson recently, so that sucks. I thought his Black Widow was way better than Waid's.
Have you read Year One Riley? That was amazing, as was Mike Zeck's early one with an Eastwood-style vibe. Early War Journal with Punisher Vs. Sniper was great too. 💀
I haven’t read it! I was looking to grab the trade but it’s rather pricey right now so either I’ll try to read digital or wait for a new printing in the future.
All my Punisher is in paperback nowadays, thanks to Marvel's great output for the character through the Epic and Complete Collections lines in recent years. So omnibuses wouldn't be my preferred format here, but a Rucka rerelease is SO damn overdue. As for classic stuff, I think it's ultimately a lot simpler than the ridiculous output makes it seem. The miniseries is great, and then the 60-odd issues of the flagship by Mike Baron are the peak. It's very much 80s/90s B-movie nonsense rather than the violent realism, camp, and gritty crime drama flavors of Ennis/Ennis/Rucka/Aaron. It will eventually be covered across the first 6 Epics. Obviously the first 20 issues and change of War Journal are in a similar vein and have the benefit of some Jim Lee art. And the first 11 issues of War Zone are one extended arc that unfortunately John Romita Jr. bails from halfway through and has never been properly collected. The recently collected Suicide Run crossover between the three is a bloated take on the "what if someone else tried to be the Punisher?" concept that Rucka tapped into a bit with Rachel.
Technically only like 5 writing teams handled Punisher across the 3 ongoings, but they often weaved between. So some interesting mapping could be attempted to be completist, especially since a lot of stories aren't heavy on continuity or much connection to the wider MU. Punisher by Mike Baron: Punisher #1-44, 46-48, 50-62, 76, Annual #1-4, Punisher War Journal #25-37, Punisher: The Origin of Microchip #1-2, Daredevil #257, Classic Punisher #1, Punisher: Intruder, Punisher: G-Force, Punisher: Empty Quarter Punisher by Carl Potts: Punisher War Journal #1-24, Wolverine/Punisher: Damaging Evidence #1-3, Marvel Holiday Special 1992, Venom: Funeral Pyre #1-3, Punisher Movie Special Punisher by Chuck Dixon: Punisher #45, 49, 63, 85-93, 97-104, Annual #6, Punisher War Journal #38-42, 44-64, 75-80, Punisher War Zone #1-11, 23-37, 41, Annual #1-2, Punisher Summer Special #2-4, Punisher Back to School Special #1, Nomad #5-6, Daredevil #308-309, Marc Spector Moon Knight #19-21, The 'Nam #67-69, Punisher: Assassin's Guild, Punisher: Kingdom Gone, Punisher/Batman: Deadly Knights Punisher by Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning: Punisher #64-75, 82-84, 94-95, Annual #6*-7, Punisher War Zone #12-19, Punisher: Year One #1-4, Punisher Summer Special #1-3*, Punisher: Blood on the Moors*, Punisher: Die Hard in the Big Easy* Punisher by Steven Grant: Punisher (Miniseries) #1-5, Punisher #80-81, 94-95, Annual #6, Punisher War Journal #65-75, Punisher War Zone #38-40, Annual #1, Punisher Holiday Special #1, Punisher Summer Special #3, Punisher Back to School Special #2, Spider-Man #32-34, Punisher: Return to Big Nothing,
I’ll be totally honest, I almost left it off completely. I was making this list by judging my memory of how I enjoyed each run, but when I was looking over it again I started to notice a lot of those kinds of issues. It falls into the whole far-right attempt to adopt the punisher as the patron saint of the righteous kill, pulling him away from being a cautionary tale of what happens to the mental state of many soldiers when they come back from war. In the end I elected to keep it on there choosing to have this kind of discussion if it were brought up. So thank you for bringing it up!
Rucka’s run for sure I recently read edmonsons run and I’m sorry but it sucked boring and idiotic antagonist’s I would also love a collection or OHC of the punisher armoury series

Good to see you're still going, dude 🤘
Big agree on Punisher by Rucka! I really hope there will be some kind of collected edition soon, would be fine with thick tpbs
Yes! I'd kill for a tpb too. Probably the best 616 Punisher ever. Just want to read it all again in one sitting.
Excelent material by Rucka

We need on this ranking - punisher Year One ( abnett - lanning - eaglesham )

The Edmondson run is pretty sketchy when it comes to police brutality. So it would definitely not be collected in the current climate.

I dont think we are going to get a new punisher omnibus marvel seems to want to get rid of him
Rucka’s run for sure I recently read edmonsons run and I’m sorry but it sucked boring and idiotic antagonist’s I would also love a collection or OHC of the punisher armoury series
I’ve never heard Platoon pronounced that way.
💯👍
