Growing up black, it didn't occur to me that people didn't immediately recognize j-setting/black majorette style in Beyonce's video. Thank you to GBS for sharing some of black American culture. It's appreciated.

Black women are the epitome of beauty, grace, athleticism, and femininity! We STAY slaying and influencing this world. Keep slaying ladies! Thank y'all for shining.
They should really do a full length documentary on the J-Settes! They really are icons not just in Mississippi, but in the SWAC and in HBCU's and African American culture in general. There influence even reaches beyond the African American community.. I would even go so far as to say, that their popularity, notoriety and contribution to dance culture, rivals that of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders..
Ciara was a majorette/dancer with her high school band in ATL. Its possible she was doing what she knew from there. No shade to the J-Settes, they are phenomenal, but that could have been inspired by any number of teams... unless she specifically called them out.
Man... I love these guys!!! I’ve been watching their performances and I must say, they always bring their A-game. They’re also always neat and uniform when they’re performing! Captain’s pretty awesome too. I’ve seen her tell her girls be careful when they were performing on wet grounds. Love it. Go girls!!!

@@crazydolce1 Well FIRSTLY, the more than 100 dancers HIRED key word: which means they were paid for Coachella came form HBCUs from all around the country including jackson state . Secondly, Beyonce's coachella set was HBCU themed so instead of implying that beyonce is some cultural pillaging outsider, instead of the homage giving, artist she is that was daring enough to put such a beautiful display of blackness such as j-setting mainstream infront of more than 100,000 white people who might not even "get" it at a festival.
