Some people were asking about details on the M90 that inspired this build. This is my buddy that owns the m90 you saw in the video. Ask away.
Looking to get into the AK world, would love to take some pointers. Would love to know your base rifle, and any and all modifications/upgrades you have done. If you are willing to do so, if not I respect your right not to.

@@KLAYCO47 Yes the SRO looks good Klayco but where it really performs is in cold climate, the optic will turn on and always function, most don't. If rain is an issue on the optic, do you think rain-x might maintain visibility threw the optic? Cool video as always 👍.

If I could go back in time I think buying a Zpap M85 is a better option for a 556 yugo AK than the M90. The m90 fully loaded with a rail, lpvo, and any other accessories puts in the 12+ lb range. The m85 has a "from the factory" mag well with better tolerances for mag compatibility and the hinged dust cover is a nice perk. I find it hard to justify training with a 12 lb 556 gun when my fully kitted 16 inch AR is 8.5 lbs.

You’ll probably get a shorter barrel, but they’re not going to do a full tunable gas block. None of their military products have it, and I doubt they’re going to go down a route that expensive .

My M90 is already 16 inches?
Even in my manual it says 16 3/4 inches.
I never modified the barrel since I literally can’t (no experience and no local gunsmiths), so did they follow through?

@@KingSteven- That’s odd. They only offer it in the longer barrel. Just to double check, it’s a M90 you have and not a M70?

Third pin should go after Archery Tubers. The third pin in Archery means the target is out there at range.
been wanting to do something like this for my m90 for a while but asking my local shop to do a chop, turndown, reposition gas port, and a rethread would kill my bank account.
If there was a gas bock front sight that did not require relocating the gas port, I would be 100% down

Modified from its original state as they are based on a real
Military gun and have some history behind them.
Zastava does make these on the same tooling and assembly line as their real military full auto guns.
However the job that guy did on it looks very good and it’s very practical for what you are doing.

Zastava’s are getting a lot more popular. My buddy has a new one and have an old one, the serial number is 001606 or something. I d k if that tells you the age or not lol The new ones are much better though compared to mine. I still love it though

My only problem with goon tape is that the edges/ends tend to come unstuck it's hot in southern Mississippi
Even though I am sliding into decrepitude, us Boomers prefer longer, heavier barrels, heavy forged trunnions, heavier gage stamps, or even better, milled receivers. We may need a powered cart to get us from Alpha to Bravo, or slung over the carcass, but there is something to be said for the built like a tractor gear and machines. Git Sum!

I’m fortunate enough to live near M13 so I’m thinking of getting it done soon. No long range shooting for me so I’m looking at going 14.75” and then p&w a jmac rrd360 that I already have on it. I have dreams that someone would make a flipover magnifier mount that sits low enough to work with a dot this low.
Maybe you could use a flip to center and just flip it up when you don’t want magnification, kinda backwards but it might work.

Hey Klay I love the updates, one question are you running the factory gas piston with the occom gas block? I tried to look but I couldn’t see.
Yes the piston is factory. It had to be shortened slightly.
It looks like you are now using '74 mags with (I guess 5.56mm followers). I discovered that for myself last year and Man, is the fitment and quality so much better.
All of these are 556 specific mags. The black mag in particular is the new PSA AK101 mag, they look very similar to 74 mags. I haven't found the 556 conversion followers to be 100% reliable. So I don't run them in competitions.

Hey man I’ve found myself coming back to this video but for the gas block this time but, you’re seriously dope. I was wondering if you had a chance to get one of PSA AK556 that take magpuls? I’m curious if it runs and how well it compares to an AKM pattern like a WBP JACK for example.
No I have not. Im not super interested in ak's that take ar mags anymore BUT... who knows, one may pop up on the channel.

Legit how are you consistently hitting 600 yard targets with a red dot? I've shot 300 yards at 18" gongs with my 2x prism on a kr103 and its a challenge to say the least. Granted I'm not a phenomenal shooter but it seems hard to imagine

What do you think about AKs cut down to 13.7 Inches?
I bought a 7.62x39 WASR-10 paratrooper rifle for $600 at a pawn shop (I think I got it for a good price?) I was thinking to cut the 16 inch barrel to a 13.7 P&W to 16.
I know that 7.62 is a much better caliber for shorter guns than 223, but I would like an opinion on if it is a good idea to cut it down, and how much it really would affect it's drop at 300 yards.
It is my first AK and I am very unsure of attachment compatibility, so I haven't even touched it with any modifications or optics yet, any suggestions for that would be quite nice too.

How do you like the occam defense adjustable gas block vs a KNS piston???
It's pretty dang awesome. But if you don't want all the time dedicated to installing it. I think kns is a much easier option.

Klay I have an M90 in stock form had it for s few yrs shot it maybe 200rds more or less..and the dust cover crossbolt locking mechanism is jammed up tight!! i have to manipulate it with a Hammer and punch or it will not release the dust cover..what do you suggest I do not want to send it back to Zastava..i am a mechanic /welder of 30+yrs and 55 yrs old ..

The new Zastava M-19 Grendel modular rifle (two calibre 6.5 or 7.62) in the first mini-series it was handed over to Serbian special force for testing!!! I hope that Serbian army will decide to introduce this rifle into its units!!!🤨😉🤌👌

M90 looking good. I noticed you had to mortar a round out. I have a similar weird sticky issue with my m85. Sounds a little bit gritty compared to other guns I have. Haven't put my finger on the issue yet but I keep a close eye on the bolt and trunion. You notice anything unusual?
Had that issue last year. I ended up aggressively scrubbing my chamber with a .223 chamber brush and a 9mm brush as well. Haven’t had the issue since.
@Tofu702 I have to monitor the top exterior of the chamber on my m85. carbon builds up there for me but I feel like there is something else still. I will look into what you've mentioned
If your running steel case it could be the lacquer coating sticking to the chamber when it gets hot.

Yeah, my best guess is after getting the gun really hot and letting a round sit in the chamber for too long. It can get a bit sticky from expansion, but i'm not 100% sure.
Somebody call a vet cuz that puppy is sick…aye quick question about bimetal on steel. It appears in your vids your poppin those plates with bimetal (especially when you run your 74) I wanna do that on my plates too but was nerv about hurting them. Obviously not steel core, but are you pingin steel with the copper washed steel jacket lead core like red army standard?

No fitting at all. Install was easy.

You run a lot of ALG triggers. Have you experienced any premature ware on the bolt or carrier? Zestavia in a video is pretty adamant about only using their factory Serbian trigger because US triggers have significantly higher surface hardness and peen the bolts. Do you find this true or is it a over rated issue that isn't a concern for you ? Some other guy suggest not using them in any akm.... Would be interested in your take being you run several rifles with ALG triggers and compete with them.

It happens to all AK's. After market triggers might speed it up a little bit. But it's really not a big deal.
I think with what you have done with your m90 it will change the m90 market even more. And it because of guys like you and big John and others

No not really. The gas blocks are a big time and money commitment. I do think they are the best option though.

I see your red dot set up is somewhat in the similar to mine . Iam running a utg side rail mount with a holosun 410 in the low mount. However I can’t seem to get the irons in the picture. Any tips ? The mount has a “deep v cut “ on the pick rail for use iron sights. Had no luck any tip’s would help thank you

I use one. Can confirm they hold zero for a civi to run drills with a red dot and 3x prism at 300 yards. Man sized targets... im not an operator

Hey Klay, 2 questions I have:
1) Im new to AKs, and I read people say the trunnion is important in how its made. Do hou know how well/durable he M90s is? I emailed Zavasta directly and havent heard back, as I havent been able to find anything. (If its cold hammer forged, milled, etc)
2) lastly, the stock gas adjustment ring, I understand you switch it to setting 3 for break in, and back to 2. Did you replace it due to running into issues? I understand yours is a certain build for matches -- Im planning to just use mine for general shooting at the range
PS: Ive enjoyed watching your M90 series -- I went to a gun store near me with the thought of investing in an AK soon, but 556 in mind. Needless to say, after reading stuff, and watching your vids + other vids, I went back and put it on layaway next day.
1. Yes all Zastava ak's have cold hammer forged trunnions.
2. Yep, they want you to break it in on 3 for a couple 100 rounds before you turn the gas down. I only replaced it because I was already going to cut the barrel down so I figured might as well get a bit more gas settings out of it with a new gas block.

On another note, should I purchase the m90 as my first AK or should I go with an Arsenal or WBP? Or....? Still learning about AKs, been and AR guy, finally allowing myself to be interested in other platforms.

Easiest ones to find are all of the Polish WBP and FB Mags. The AC unity, PSA ak101 and of course, metal Serbian mags work too.

I hate when dudes be like “yugo AK’s aren’t heavy you just need to man up”. That extra weight makes a huge difference when your running and gunning with it vs putting a couple mags through it while sitting at a bench every other month!
You'll never going to fully appreciate Zastava if you don't own a Yugo too.
