I am a 67 year old who vividly remembers seeing CT for the first time on Don Kirshners Rock Concert. I thought, "Who are these guys?" And like they say, "The rest is history!" One of my all-time favorite bands.
Same here. I was 9-years old and I remember it as if it was light night. I was watching by myself while my mom and sister were asleep. When they came on something clicked... my DNA was altered. Sounds dramatic but anyone in my family will tell you the same. I woke my mom and sister up and made them come watch. They thought I was insane! From that point forward I became obsessed. Fan club member, saw them every chance I could, and hunted down any mention of them in magazines. I even bought the same clothing as Robin and changed my hairstyles to match his. Every person in school new I was "the Cheap Trick guy." I love them just as much to this day! My favorite band of all time.
The Kirshner show is such a great early example of the group - this rehearsal is gold! Always cool to hear Robin's guitar higher in the mix to better understand what he was playing to fill out the songs.
Totally dig this "pull back the curtain" soundcheck/rehearsal stuff. Along with demos, it gives us a great behind the scenes look at what went into albums and performances. LOVE IT!
Another historic treat…The Don Kirshner Rock Concert was My first time “seeing” the band characters come to life, off the printed page/ album cover, and playing live. I feel cheated to this day that I was not allowed to go with others to see Cheap Trick and KISS at the Forum in LA August 1977. Too young (12) supposedly.
I wasn't allowed to go see that tour either. My Mom promised to take me to the next tour Dynasty. She kept her promise. I wish Cheap Trick would have opened.
@ I Have a similar story, and got a more trustworthy friend’s older brother to take us in 1979 with my Mom’s permission. Sadly, only I believe, Detroit got Cheap Trick as an opener on the Dynasty Tour. Happy New Year !
@ Wow! We saw them the same leg of the tour. We got Breathless too in Anaheim, CA Nov 6, 1979. Only Move on and NY Groove were played off the solo albums…I will tell you though, it was a magical night finally seeing our heroes in concert. And finding a ‘ FREE’ torn, beer stained tour book discarded on the floor…Score!
Kind of funny they even needed yo rehearse this stuff, as by then they had been playing the same set for a while. Still, i guess playing for TV is different. It must have been mighty loud in the studio.

Cheap Trick and AC/DC in the mid-to-late 70s were unbeatable. Still remain an important part of music listening to this day.
Cheap Trick 5-20-79 was my first concert, AC/DC 10-5-79 my second gig... with Bon! Jax Fla.
@@tomsumner2363 You win!
Always great to hear these live-- Come On, Come On, Elo Kiddies, and Speak Now.
Thanks, BunE from Japan.
This is GREAT ! Thank you Sir Bun.
Thanks as ever Bun & Steve. Happy New Year to everyone.

We are so thankful for the music that you share here, Bun.
Sounds like the Ray-O-Vac C-cell batteries in the source tape recorder started running out of juice around Southern Girls. Another great post, Bun!
I love this one, rough sound and all. Thanks, Bun

@romelovesdan Yeah that's cool. We got some ridiculous band called Breathless and Kiss had already stopped playing songs from the solo albums .

Woah, Clock strikes ten was played here a little too fast!!!!! 😱🎸
I think the last few songs have the tape sped up. Robin kinda sounds like a chipmunk on the last. two songs
