Excellent insight for the warm-up bands. I met Alejandro while with his creation The True Believers at a small college. The band couldn’t be more hospitable.
Thanks for the great vid! I hope there's still fun to be had - but this night was special indeed, never to be repeated (I think there's an instantaneous, spontaneous quality to this vintage of Punk, the flash of the moment - it's never the same twice). I love 'Lazy' too - what a great song to begin the night. Jennifer's keyboards give the Nuns a unique sound, when originality was still a premium in punk. A bit Stranglers-like but thrillingly more scuzzy. A bootleg LP appeared about 20 years ago, and though it was ridiculously expensive for the time (£18), I had to have it. They did two great Iggy covers in their set. I know Ramones aren't especially your thing, but - and don't quote me on this coz I may be mistaken - somewhere somehow I heard that Ritchie Dietrick of Nuns was the original, mythical Ritchie Ramone before they had even played a show. I think also that the Steve Jones produced Avengers session was released as an EP before they broke up in 1979. Thnaks again and best wishes.
Danny Furious is a very good friend of mine. We even had a band together some years ago. Shortly after the Avengers he actually helped put Joan Jett & The Blackhearts together with his friend Gary Ryan on bass and guitarist Eric Ambell. And Joan of course. Agree. The Nuns (along with Crime) were two of the earliest bands in the SF Punk scene, but they weren't especially good and weren't as popular as the bands which formed around '78 (like the DKs). The Avengers were a great live band... I always thought their song "the American in me" was one of the better punk songs from that early period. Jennifer Miro (Miro pronounced like the painter) was underused by the Nuns and she honestly would have been better off being a chanteuse and not connected with them.
@ I got into a weird kerfuffle with the guys in the Nuns when I was hanging out with the Weirdos backstage at the Mabuhay once, Jennifer completely kept out of it, she seemed cool.

Exactly what gay movie theater are you referring to? There were no even medium-sized gay movie theaters in SF. If you're referring to The Strand theater on Market Street, that was not a gay theater even if they showed alternative films.
@WhyNotGoPlaces if you know anyone who bought a ticket through the mail it had the movie theatre printed on it.... obviously I used mine to get in... I remember my friend Connie Clark ( worked for go go's) didn't go and her ticket was on wall of her salon...r.i.p.connie..might have had original date printed on tickets...if you remember they were denied entry and dated were changed a bit....
@ how did Connie die? I heard a few years ago but never got the details. Did you know Alison Hennesey? She got into the punk scene after I left to go to college, so I never met her in person, but I knew her on facebook, she died of cancer on Jan.12.

Please remember the pistols were supposed to play a gay movie theatre with crime opening..Bill Graham swiped gig from malc...he hated crime so they added nuns and avengers...I call it the meltdown in San Fran..awful outta tune geetar..non playing bass player and a indifferent singer ..well at least Paul cook held it together...
Fond memory of gig...avengers embarrassed headliner
Exactly what gay movie theater are you referring to? There were no even medium-sized gay movie theaters in SF. If you're referring to The Strand theater on Market Street, that was not a gay theater even if they showed alternative films.
I never heard that story about the movie theater. Interesting. Thanks for watching!
@omfug7148 sounds familiar...I heard from a friend that Connie died...no idea how... she was having a rough time from health and money...she used to cut hair at masque is how I met her....
