Something feels off with the stage design visually. There's a lot of unbroken neutral space that kinda makes things boring to look at. Hopefully there's a lot of polish coming because mechanically it looks pretty dang fun.

Then in the final release, it was much more natural and seamless. If you can find the original screenshots, you’ll see what I mean. Adam don't tell people to not discuss problems they have with video games regardless if the bland stage design is due to it being a early build, it's important to bring up these problems to make other people, and to extension the devs, aware so the problems can be fixed before release

Gameplay-wise though all of the potential new mechanics are super exciting and the amount of new content in this trailer is awesome.

As much as I see the logic behind that, it's very very unlikely. That sort of thing (games are changing due to negative reception) very rarely happens besides maybe a few minor improvements because it would either mean the artist/s suddenly become a lot more skilled or they have to fire the person doing the art and replace them with someone else before the games release, both of which would involve redoing the entire games artwork which is a lot of work in itself.
Not changing it? I wouldn't count on that. Now this might be invalid, but Online Multiplayer shows that they seem to be listening to the fans, so if people talk about the design enough, I'm sure it'll change before release.
Spelunky is my all time fave indie game! I have high expectations that 2 will be even better. I'm thinking there were a few placeholder arts in the trailer? otherwise looks GREAT.
There's so much to take in. Water physics. Rideable animals. New characters. New items. New enemies. New locations. ONLINE CO-OP. Didn't think the original could be topped until now

Clearly you don't look at Derek Yu's twitter. The game was delayed way back in August 2019, at best it will come out during the second half of this year.
It's really interesting how many of the sounds got changed before the release of the game. I actually think a few made it to launch but were changed after a few patches, such as the bonking on top of enemies sound.

Some of the mechanics were messed up too if you used the ankh and then open the coffin sometimes one of the players just like explode and you lose your stuff
Personally i would rather they take all the time they need to make it great, the original spelunky was amazing and a sequel mist also be that amazing, AND then some. I woild rather wait longer then be dissapointed by the quality of the game.
