imani amani It is overrated as hell. The IGN rating for it is ridiculous in my opinion, deserves 7.1/10 at best. I played Smackdown vs Raw 2006 and 2007 and the gameplay was far better.
Just got the game yesterday after reading that 2K14 and 2K19 are the best 2K games hands down and after seeing this review I'm absolutely stoked for it.
i just bought this game i was going to buy 2k15 but the guy at the game shop said 2k14 is a lot better i aint played a wrestling game since here comes the pain im loving it so far.

aw yeah man I remember me and my cousins, we were playing Here Comes the Pain, and we were using Kurt Angle because of his chair finisher. We paired him up with every female wrestler and we were trying to bust their heads open. Speaking of which, is there a wrestling game where the females have a bleeding option?
HCTP was the best, had everything. The wrestling and moves had weight, great controls, 4 grapple types with own subset of moves and great choice based-story mode and backstages. All I want and many others is a HCTP expanded and using todays tech. That simple.
Oh, I see, haha. No worries. What I meant it had "everything" I dont play or follow wrestling hardly nowadays, but back then the gameplay, animation and intuitive control layout made HCTP a massive jump over Shut Your Mouth and I still think the choice driven Story/career holds up today. From a quality over quantity standpoint (still feature rich for it's time, mind) it was and still regarded to many one of their best wrestling games.
Pinnacle of wrestling games for the Seventh gen. The creation suite was incredibly packed and the legends roster was impressive. This and SVR 07 are my two favorite games of the last gen.
I played all wwe games starting from 2007. I have to admit that this game is my second best game besides WWE 2008. And 2k15 is not even considered a next gen game it's terrible!!
Anyone else thinks the fact a good deal of the roster in this and 13 are just lazy? I mean seriously why does Triple H, John Cena, Kane, Taker, etc need more than one character slot.
The only reason for that is different taunts and few moves. Maybe in current gen they might be able to pull the alternate attire off. I dislike two same character with hardly any differences in the same game too.
Maybe this year they'll have a system where, in the character selection screen, you highlight a character, and then you press the shoulder buttons to switch their versions. For example, I hightlight Cena, currently set to whatever he's doing today, then I press L1/LB, then it changes to Nexus Cena, then L1/B again, to HLR(Smackdown) Cena, then one more time for heel. For Kane, it might be the original masked guy, then where he had a top with red stripes along with his pants, then the one where his pants have horizontal zig zag lines, then to his modern day mask.
Raidensnakeezio Yeah that's how it should be, like hell you don't see Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter take up multiple slots for one character with the same movesets.
I think it's because this game was released a couple of months after the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, probably not giving them enough time the port it to the PS4 and Xbox One, or they would be afraid of being criticized for it not living up to expectations, and not fully using the power the PS4 and the Xbox one has. As for the PC they weren't releasing WWE games on the PC at the time. Probably with the more wrong PC gamers, they took this as an opportunity.
2k14 is awesome. that first time beating taker makes you feel like a million bucks ;) the creation options in this one were some of the best (13 had a few more things, but the gameplay was faster this time so I prefer it for multiplayer and custom matches).
It's kind of embarrassing that they have to waste time reviewing this. I'd give it a 3/10 not worth your money. Also, I'm a bit disturbed by the fact that this got a better rating than AC4. Just saying.
2k15 is going to be better. You can't blame 2K as they took over this franchise and released something that was already pretty much done by THQ. With THQ completely out of the picture, I'm expecting 2k15 to be a completely fresh experience. It's coming out on PS4 as well, so you have that to look forward to. WWE 12 sucked, WWE 13 was infested with bugs but had an awesome retro roster, WWE 2K14 fixed many of 13's bugs and doubled the CAW slots. It's a good game, but they can do better. Hoping 2k15 comes with a GM mode though.
I would love to see a MyPlayer type career mode integrating CAW and NXT on your way up to WWE etc. Something in-depth ... meetings with creative and all that.
Cory Solo Agree with you , 2k14 was a THQ/Yuke games, maybe 2K have putt some touch but not much. Maybe they already start making wwe 2k15 last years with less poeple in it.When 2k14 has been release they all switch to the already in progress wwe 2k15.2 years for 2k15 i have big hope, the MyPlayer type career from NBA to wwe 2k15 will make sens, been years since we have see a good career mode.i'M dreaming but i hope my dream will come true this fall with the release!
Got this game yesterday after I started re-watching WWE a few weeks ago after 4 years. So the last game I had was SvR 2010. Gameplay wise, I despise this game, it's pretty terrible. Might just dig out all the PS2 classics next time.
This was obviously reviewed by someone new to WWE games. They gave the game credit for the same creation suite that's been in it since SvR 2010 and ignored how badly it's the same game as '13 and '12. The only thing good about 2K14 is the roster. This game gets a solid 7/10 from me.

Back to this review after the disappointing release of wwe 2k20. I'm looking forward to playing older games like 2k14, WWE '13, SvR 2011, and SvR 2008 on PS3 coz the subsequent WWE games that were released after 2k14 led to the worst of the franchise...
My problem with WWE games is just the slow flow of it all. Press a button and WATCH a slow animation take place. It doesn't feel fast paced, or gives the sense of full control to the player like classic wrestling games did. Even the mayhem of the 16bit Royal Rumble days were far more entertaining that these recent iterations. The first Smackdown games on PS1 had that next-gen feel for its time, but was still fast paced as well. This is one of those cases where "realism" doesnt transfer well imo.
Don't get me wrong, I'm also one of those people who want the Ruthless Agression era games(The Smackdown Series to SvR 06, 07 if we're generous). But those things that we want (back) can't be completed within the yearly cycle. Sure we want a backstage free roam where you get to interact with other wrestlers, and we can move to the backstage and outside to the streets during Hardcore matches(HCTP, we're looking at you,). We want all the wrestlers(esp the Diva lineup, it's somewhat lacking, and I like to use them as valets/managers, AND for storylines). We want all the venues, we want more stuff to use to create stuff, (probably next to impossible since WWE is pushing it's PG image), more weapon varaiety, more game modes etc. But we have to realize that that stuff cannot be produced in a year.
Having beaten 30 years of Wrestlemania and playing a lot of Universe, I can say this is without a doubt a step up. Absolutely love how the A.I. and pacing feels. It's not perfect, but it has taken quite a step in the right direction to finding the best possible balance. Definitely agree with the score and review.

Just because it has a higher rating than AC4 and BF4 doesn't mean that IGN thinks thit's a better game. The three have completely different genres, and are judged based on that. I'm sure all of these games are phenomenal, having already played 2K14 myself I definitely think it deserves an 8.7. I'll have to wait to play Battlefield 4 for myself once I get it for PS4.
jerry lawler is the only commentator in the wwe games that actually sounds realistic. Jr and Michaels commentary sounds like they were so bored reading of a script, I really hope 2k does a complete revamp of the commentary for 2k15
And to everyone the old ones are better games like SvR and SmackDown series it's because you want an arcade type of gameplay,a lot of people care about realism when it comes to Yearly Based Sports Titles And yeah this game isn't a huge amount of improvement but they hundreds of minor improvements and that's what makes the game good,like everyone else says if want a big overhaul wait for WWE 2K15 when it hits the PS4/Xbox One

Well after playing wrestling games on the wii. I finally got to play a wwe game on the xbox 360. Since they stop making wrestling games on the wii. I had to get the 360 to get wwe 2k14 and I got say this is the best wwe game I've ever played. This had really good graphics, a awesome roster, a awesome 30 years of wrestlemania mode, a awesome create a arena, a really good universe mode, and really fun matches. The only flaws are that there are some glitches and limited backstage fights. But overall it's a great game.
My dad and i played this game every day and we really bonded over this game. I remember once we played an over 2 hour match i was dolph ziggler and he was cesaro and we kept on kicking out of eachothers finishers
Wow that wasn't convincing. For someone like me who has had every game since WWF Warzone on the PS1 I found it to be lacking in everything but the story modes. Creation is the same as the past 5-7 years. Graphics still the same. speed is kind of unnatural. Good Roster though. I liked the overview but Id personally give it a 6/7
This game has one weird problem. When you get out of the ring and pick up the steps as a weapon. You see that it has 4 steps, but when you pick it up, 2 steps seem to disappear.
Really? Saves memory? So we have hardware that's stronger then the NASA flight computer use to fly a rocket into outer space and ea can't program a tiny little detail into the game? You want to see a game that uses the consoles *FULL* capabilities? Grand Theft Auto 5.
First off, its not EA, its 2k. Second, these games are on a yearly cycle, not a >5 year cycle like GTA. Third, for a game like this, every little bit counts. The Divas hair are the reason why they are only limited to 4 in the ring at a time. Same with the guys being limitid to 6 a match. And lastly, the hardware may be strong, but the PS3 and 360 only have a few hundered megs to allocate to game memory... not much. Same reason broken tables, laders, chairs ect disappear, and why you can only take out like 5 weapons from under the ring at a time.
Then why the hell only take 1 year to make the game? Rather make the perfect WWE game then make a shitty reboot every year. If something as simple as stairs, chairs, tables, sticks disappearing too hard to program in so that they stay, then why even create the game? It's been the same since Playstation 2! Not even the graphics have changed much. It's like they just copy and pasted all of the programing and coding in the first game and put it on the next with only a few tweaks added. Only every few years a major change actually happens in the game. They probably just spend the last 6 months of the year to put their game on discs and sell it to retailers.
every year WWE from THQ is the same with previous year but WWE 2K14 is totally different. 2K Game get the publishing right of the game from THQ (had bankrupt) and has make the game better. The graphic is no different but the story mode allow you to see the interesting match of 30 years in WWE history. This story is nice and interesting WWE history. And it allow you to create story and new wrestler making the game endless play and endless content. The gameplay control is simple, when begin start playing it feel like it is depend on luck but after familiar with it, it is like UFC 3, not bad and it is more realistic gameplay than previous WWE game. Some people are from SvR - SvR 09 it's been the same game but in 2010-11 I started get but in still needed a bigger improvement so WWE '12 came it was awesome and WWE '13 just builded off its foundation then WWE 2K14 came and now there are a bunch of fixes and the gameplay had new improvements like speed and reversals but not graphics and we need new the for the creation suite hopefully next year WWE 2K games on next gen will be like NBA 2K14 on Next Gen on top best ps4 game It will be from there one of the best fighting or/and sports games every bought on the next gen consoles maybe one of the best overall,will never no what the future holds for us But think about this more Bought/like WWE 2K14 a Current Gen game than NBA Live 14 a Next Gen Game
Graphics didn't change but thats only because 2k had to finish the game so no big deal. Smother gameplay,new moves, tons of entrance music. The game is fun and thats all you need.
The A I is probably the best in years. The CPU actually is challenging and put me through a table and barricade. The CPU used to never touch the table.

kgp8 Well first GM mode was in 08', but going on your previous comment, superstar threads were never supposed to be capable of actually logos to a outfit, just changing the colors. They are currently experimenting that with superstar heads. However 2k have actually improved superstar threads by allowing you to change very detail that is currently there, which I find is good enough.

30 years of Wrestlemania seems like the only reason to buy this game. 07 and 11 were the last ones i played. Would be nice if they made something similar to Here comes the pain again.
The games of the last few years have been pretty disappointing. WWE '13 was pretty good but they all have gameplay issues and bugs. I know others who follow the series and they all agree that WWE games shouldn't be released annually, it would be so much better if they'd take a couple of years if need be to carefully make the next game rather than rushing into it and reusing the majority of gameplay features, the commentary is by far the most exhausting thing to put up with since most of us have heard the same quips over the past several years
Until WWE2k18 comes out and proves otherwise.. this is the best wrestling game ever made by a long shot, whoever disagrees, please tell me one which is better. I have newer versions on my Xbox one and PS4, but I found myself going back to this game constantley. The community creations in this game was crazy, Ive built the entire 80's-early 90's era and full wcw rosters and both shows have the accurate arenas and camera work. Not to mention the 30 years of wrestlemania still is the best story mode they have ever done. I don't know how any could argue against it.
The only thing that drives me crazy about this game is the set of offensive moves that are available. Other than that this game is awesome with the 30 years of wrestlemania
This game looks absolutely amazing. I just wish and hope that in 2k15, they add a story mode for your custom made wrestler. I know you can create a short story in the mode that they give you, but I enjoyed the stories they made for your custom made wrestler so much in SvR 04 - 07. 08 wasn't much of a story. I hope they look into making a career mode for your custom wrestler again.

With THQ completely out of the picture, I'm expecting 2k15 to be a completely fresh experience. It's coming out on PS4 as well, so you have that to look forward to. WWE 12 sucked, WWE 13 was infested with bugs but had an awesome retro roster, WWE 2K14 fixed many of 13's bugs and doubled the CAW slots. It's a good game, but they can do better. Hoping 2k15 comes with a GM mode though.
With 2K doing the work, I'm expecting a great WWE game. I hope they put in enough care like what they do with their NBA franchise.
I would love to see a MyPlayer type career mode integrating CAW and NXT on your way up to WWE etc. Something in-depth ... meetings with creative and all that.

Maybe they already start making wwe 2k15 last years with less poeple in it.When 2k14 has been release they all switch to the already in progress wwe 2k15.2 years for 2k15 i have big hope, the MyPlayer type career from NBA to wwe 2k15 will make sens, been years since we have see a good career mode.i'M dreaming but i hope my dream will come true this fall with the release!

Got this game yesterday after I started re-watching WWE a few weeks ago after 4 years. So the last game I had was SvR 2010. Gameplay wise, I despise this game, it's pretty terrible. Might just dig out all the PS2 classics next time.

If they really wanted me to relive my favorite matches from childhood, they'd put the Hardys in the game.
This was obviously reviewed by someone new to WWE games. They gave the game credit for the same creation suite that's been in it since SvR 2010 and ignored how badly it's the same game as '13 and '12. The only thing good about 2K14 is the roster. This game gets a solid 7/10 from me.

Back to this review after the disappointing release of wwe 2k20. I'm looking forward to playing older games like 2k14, WWE '13, SvR 2011, and SvR 2008
on PS3 coz the subsequent WWE games that were released after 2k14 led to the worst of the franchise...
My problem with WWE games is just the slow flow of it all. Press a button and WATCH a slow animation take place. It doesn't feel fast paced, or gives the sense of full control to the player like classic wrestling games did. Even the mayhem of the 16bit Royal Rumble days were far more entertaining that these recent iterations. The first Smackdown games on PS1 had that next-gen feel for its time, but was still fast paced as well. This is one of those cases where "realism" doesnt transfer well imo.
Don't get me wrong, I'm also one of those people who want the Ruthless Agression era games(The Smackdown Series to SvR 06, 07 if we're generous). But those things that we want (back) can't be completed within the yearly cycle. Sure we want a backstage free roam where you get to interact with other wrestlers, and we can move to the backstage and outside to the streets during Hardcore matches(HCTP, we're looking at you,). We want all the wrestlers(esp the Diva lineup, it's somewhat lacking, and I like to use them as valets/managers, AND for storylines). We want all the venues, we want more stuff to use to create stuff, (probably next to impossible since WWE is pushing it's PG image), more weapon varaiety, more game modes etc. But we have to realize that that stuff cannot be produced in a year.
Having beaten 30 years of Wrestlemania and playing a lot of Universe, I can say this is without a doubt a step up. Absolutely love how the A.I. and pacing feels. It's not perfect, but it has taken quite a step in the right direction to finding the best possible balance. Definitely agree with the score and review.

they should get the commentators in the video game studio to watch a wrestling match in the game itself, and commentate on that.

Just because it has a higher rating than AC4 and BF4 doesn't mean that IGN thinks thit's a better game. The three have completely different genres, and are judged based on that. I'm sure all of these games are phenomenal, having already played 2K14 myself I definitely think it deserves an 8.7. I'll have to wait to play Battlefield 4 for myself once I get it for PS4.
jerry lawler is the only commentator in the wwe games that actually sounds realistic. Jr and Michaels commentary sounds like they were so bored reading of a script, I really hope 2k does a complete revamp of the commentary for 2k15
And to everyone the old ones are better games like SvR and SmackDown series it's because you want an arcade type of gameplay,a lot of people care about realism when it comes to Yearly Based Sports Titles

Well after playing wrestling games on the wii. I finally got to play a wwe game on the xbox 360. Since they stop making wrestling games on the wii. I had to get the 360 to get wwe 2k14 and I got say this is the best wwe game I've ever played. This had really good graphics, a awesome roster, a awesome 30 years of wrestlemania mode, a awesome create a arena, a really good universe mode, and really fun matches. The only flaws are that there are some glitches and limited backstage fights. But overall it's a great game.
My dad and i played this game every day and we really bonded over this game. I remember once we played an over 2 hour match i was dolph ziggler and he was cesaro and we kept on kicking out of eachothers finishers

Wow that wasn't convincing. For someone like me who has had every game since WWF Warzone on the PS1 I found it to be lacking in everything but the story modes. Creation is the same as the past 5-7 years. Graphics still the same. speed is kind of unnatural. Good Roster though. I liked the overview but Id personally give it a 6/7

This game has one weird problem. When you get out of the ring and pick up the steps as a weapon. You see that it has 4 steps, but when you pick it up, 2 steps seem to disappear.
Then where does the other half of the steps? Do they disappear, banished into space and time?

Really? Saves memory? So we have hardware that's stronger then the NASA flight computer use to fly a rocket into outer space and ea can't program a tiny little detail into the game? You want to see a game that uses the consoles *FULL* capabilities? Grand Theft Auto 5.
First off, its not EA, its 2k. Second, these games are on a yearly cycle, not a >5 year cycle like GTA. Third, for a game like this, every little bit counts. The Divas hair are the reason why they are only limited to 4 in the ring at a time. Same with the guys being limitid to 6 a match. And lastly, the hardware may be strong, but the PS3 and 360 only have a few hundered megs to allocate to game memory... not much. Same reason broken tables, laders, chairs ect disappear, and why you can only take out like 5 weapons from under the ring at a time.
Then why the hell only take 1 year to make the game? Rather make the perfect WWE game then make a shitty reboot every year. If something as simple as stairs, chairs, tables, sticks disappearing too hard to program in so that they stay, then why even create the game? It's been the same since Playstation 2! Not even the graphics have changed much. It's like they just copy and pasted all of the programing and coding in the first game and put it on the next with only a few tweaks added. Only every few years a major change actually happens in the game. They probably just spend the last 6 months of the year to put their game on discs and sell it to retailers.

2K Game get the publishing right of the game from THQ (had bankrupt) and has make the game better.
The graphic is no different but the story mode allow you to see the interesting match of 30 years in WWE history. This story is nice and interesting WWE history.
And it allow you to create story and new wrestler making the game endless play and endless content.
The gameplay control is simple, when begin start playing it feel like it is depend on luck but after familiar with it, it is like UFC 3, not bad and it is more realistic gameplay than previous WWE game.

Some people are from SvR - SvR 09 it's been the same game but in 2010-11 I started get but in still needed a bigger improvement so WWE '12 came it was awesome and WWE '13 just builded off its foundation then WWE 2K14 came and now there are a bunch of fixes and the gameplay had new improvements like speed and reversals but not graphics and we need new the for the creation suite hopefully next year WWE 2K games on next gen will be like NBA 2K14 on Next Gen on top best ps4 game

Graphics didn't change but thats only because 2k had to finish the game so no big deal. Smother gameplay,new moves, tons of entrance music. The game is fun and thats all you need.

The A I is probably the best in years. The CPU actually is challenging and put me through a table and barricade. The CPU used to never touch the table.
I like both WWE 2K14 and WWE 2K15.
Don't blame 2K, they had to work on what THQ had when they went bankrupt. So maybe next year there probably will be better graphics and such.

kgp8 Well first GM mode was in 08', but going on your previous comment, superstar threads were never supposed to be capable of actually logos to a outfit, just changing the colors. They are currently experimenting that with superstar heads. However 2k have actually improved superstar threads by allowing you to change very detail that is currently there, which I find is good enough.

30 years of Wrestlemania seems like the only reason to buy this game. 07 and 11 were the last ones i played. Would be nice if they made something similar to Here comes the pain again.
The games of the last few years have been pretty disappointing. WWE '13 was pretty good but they all have gameplay issues and bugs. I know others who follow the series and they all agree that WWE games shouldn't be released annually, it would be so much better if they'd take a couple of years if need be to carefully make the next game rather than rushing into it and reusing the majority of gameplay features, the commentary is by far the most exhausting thing to put up with since most of us have heard the same quips over the past several years

Until WWE2k18 comes out and proves otherwise.. this is the best wrestling game ever made by a long shot, whoever disagrees, please tell me one which is better. I have newer versions on my Xbox one and PS4, but I found myself going back to this game constantley. The community creations in this game was crazy, Ive built the entire 80's-early 90's era and full wcw rosters and both shows have the accurate arenas and camera work. Not to mention the 30 years of wrestlemania still is the best story mode they have ever done. I don't know how any could argue against it.
I can't wait till next year when 2K actually has control of this product.

The only thing that drives me crazy about this game is the set of offensive moves that are available. Other than that this game is awesome with the 30 years of wrestlemania

This game looks absolutely amazing. I just wish and hope that in 2k15, they add a story mode for your custom made wrestler. I know you can create a short story in the mode that they give you, but I enjoyed the stories they made for your custom made wrestler so much in SvR 04 - 07. 08 wasn't much of a story. I hope they look into making a career mode for your custom wrestler again.
In a sense yes, but WWE won't allow 2k to just not publish it because they always have to have a game out every year.
