Another truly great song, long remembered. RIP. Steve Harley. Your music will live on. Like all good music does. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The singles were one thing - and brilliant - but the album tracks were simply sublime. RIP Steve Harley. Seriously underrated, but an absolute legend.
The Psychomado - boss album

Here is me a child of the 70's -80's just discovering this was more than a mere advert for mints!
Whimsically genius. 🇬🇧🏆🇬🇧
Child of the 80s and 90s here realising the same!
Also realising the advert was from the 80s and not the 90s!
Harley commented many years later that it was a more appropriate song to advertise Viagra.
It was about him, Mr Soft, his real name Steve Nice.
When I heard the news, this is the first track I wanted to listen too. great record. Brilliant musicianship and a lot of fun. The Seventies! So long, Steve, thanks for all the great tracks.
A classic, way ahead of it's time. Excellent vocals and backing...
Steve Harley R.I.P.
RIP, another of my favourites.
I got this single because of an advert for mints after that was hooked love every time I saw you live Steve fantastic rest in peace ❤
Thank you for sharing your voice and talent with the world. Rest in peace!
He was one of my musical heroes. - STEVE HARLEY (1951-2024) - R.I.P

Askes College Has Lost A Former Pupil Legend.
RIP Steve
These songs take me back to my younger days. A much ‘simpler’ times
No screaming
No horrible AUTOTUNE
Music then was ‘raw’ no tech and you heard every word with clarity
🙏🙏🙏🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍 👍 🥲🥲
God i remember this on totp cracking tune , rip steve what a distinctive voice he had
Mr cool singing mr soft
Sleep tight and thankyou.
Steve slways reminds me of Ray Davies of the Kinks.
R. I. P Steve Harley. Great memories of the Trebor soft mints ad with your track playing.
Definitely the Best thing since the Ziggy’ Album of early ‘70’s. Steve was a great front man/ lyricist and I really do miss Cockney’s take on ‘reality’.
RIP, Mr. Harley - I’m so appreciative that you left us such a great body of work,
Jane Russell.
Go to town and bring the dawnin in the mornin on your way, Steve wrote brilliantly unique lyrics. Saw him late last year in my home town.... so glad i did. Rest in peace Mr Harley you were exceptionally talented. SUCH A LOSS
A great from my childhood… and Im now showing this video to my 10 year old daughter! Pass on the flame of genius and good music. It’s one’s morale duty. RIP Steve.

Fantastic record.
Remember playing my Dads vinyl single on the radiogram over ahd over . Just heard it on Radio 2 turned it up to full volume and the wonder of technology I can watch it on the Internet.
We are the oldies now!! saying they don't make them like that now?the good old days!
Another adopted son of Suffolk gone. Always seemed such a nice bloke. Love this track and the adverts that grew from it!
Saw C/R in Birmingham. Excellent band. Steve was great guy. Great front man. Everybody warmed to him.
Same age as me. I caught polio a couple of years before him.
RIP Steve you were one of the best. Thanks for the music.
Mr Soft is outstanding. My favorite. Xx
Such an innovative band of the ‘70’s. Loved this track. Jane
I went to watch Steve Harley a few years back at Portsmouth with my dad. I remember not being in a great mood that day and didn't want to go. But Steve put on a great show. In fact one of the best shows I've ever been to. I think he was so underrated.
One of the greats. RIP
The 70s had the best music!
and movies
You are absolutely right. The Psychomodo is till one of my favourite 'albums'.
And the worst lip syncing...
@@Pizzpott A wonderful album and to hear Cavaliers live was wonderful.
Although the 60s weren't too shabby either
Thanks for the music Steve. Rest well.
Trebor Mints, Mr Soft 80s creepy Tv Advert. That's all i think of when i hear this son.
Absolutely adored your lyrics, everything so quintessentially crackpot British. From 58 years ago until now, you were one of THE best of the 70’s era.
God bless.
JaneR
Followed you from the 70’s loved every bit of your music career, thanks for all the good times RIP my friend
Can still hear his cockney accent in the song which makes it so good.
Why do I suddenly fancy a mint?
It's a very silly song. I love it. Not everything has to be serious
I asked my mom to buy the single for me… I was just a kid at the time. I told my mom it was called Mr Sock… the record shop staff were quite amused and my mom was a little embarrassed!
Made me laugh that mate, did your mum come home with the record or a pair of socks from woolworths 😂😂😂
@@alanmansell9845 still have the record… she was successful! A few years later my younger brother asked my mom to buy him a record by Nuclear Assault! Must have raised a few eyebrows!
One of my favourite bands, and one of my favourite songs too. The world is a poorer place for your passing, Steve. Rest in peace, as you so richly desrve to.
❤he was brilliant. Loved his voice ❤
I adored him.brilliant music
I just saw that on the news head lines this morning, very sad news, another music icon left this world
A legend lossed but forgotten ❤😢😢😢
amazing performance.. Steve was so young; I have'nt seen the video but I remember this song from 1979-80
Hit in 1974 in uk .
Another Sad Day. Big Loss To music, Rip Top man Steveie,❤ He's Younger Brother And Family And Friends Will Greatly miss Him. His Brother Had A Band Called Quasimodo At College I Have A Single Green Label By Them.
Oh wow, I haven't heard this song In 40 years R.I.P Steve you will be sadly missed. The Human Menagerie was an awesome album with that class song Sebastian and all the others like What Ruthy Said, and Lorettas Tale. Ohhh them were the days
RIP. Steve Harley. Mr Soft, Come up & see me, make me smile.
This guy Steve was so underrated, he has a very unusual voice and it's f****** ace
Here he looks like a toned down, slightly less camp kind of Elton John! 🤣🤣
Just a jolly jape, with no sleight intended on either of them. Both had their moments and gave us some great music.
Until now I never knew this was the basis for the "Mr Soft" mint advert which I loved as a kid (I wanted the cat!) Really cool so thank you Steve Harley X
was the first concert i ever went to 1976 at Bristol colston hall and love that he is still going strong 2022 to often overlooked
🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶loved Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.
Rest in peace x
Bom bom bom bom - bom bom bom bom
Mr. Soft turn it on and force the world
And watch the things you're going through
Oh Mr. Soft believe ev'rything they tell you
And be damned if they'll thank you
You paint ev'rything so cruel
Comin' on like mister cool
Paint your face and shut the gate
No one's comin' home till late - ooh-la cha
Bom bom bom bom
Don't you know, life gets tedious enough
Without this extra grudge to bare
You so slow, shift your ideas, make your mind up
In a jiffy, let's be fair
We'd all be taken off tonight
Turn off your eyes and shut the light
Oh, you're the most, you're so unreal
We'd all be dead without your spiel
Ooh-la ooh take it
Mmmmmm ....
Ooh - bom bom bom bom
Oh Mr. Soft, go to town and bring the dawnin'
In the mornin' on your way
Mr. Soft, put your feet upon the waters
And play Jesus for that day
You begin to hear them mumble
Spot the starman, ruff and tumble
Fight the good fights, sling your axe
Watch the speaker, lead the packs
Ooh - here we go again
Great lyrics and absolutely love the violin
Cockney Rebel Mk2 miming to Cockney Rebel Mk1's playing, fascinating.
Peaked at #8 In U.K. on 25 August 1974
I'm eating mentos, smoking cannabis legally in Scotland 🤣 never in my eldest days did I think this would be my life nearly 50 years later 🤣 the world needs to keep going forward, not backwards
Love this song and especially the line ..Ooh here we go again ...fantastic song....RIP Steve and thanks for the music.
RIP. Steve Harley ............
Un des meilleurs et original groupes. Fabuleux à jamais. Encore merci infiniment !!!
Oui !! 👍 🇬🇧 !
Still remember watching Steve on Top of the Pops when I was 14 and hadn't yet tasted grief in my life... Mum and Dad were there, and I naively thought they'd be there for ever...
😢
So sorry angela, I too was 14 and thought the same, and both my mom and dad are still alive ! but I know every day is a blessing with them now, but I lost my wife some years ago so I too sadly know the taste of grief :(
RIP Steve Harley 😭
Just how talented and cute was Steve Harley? A very underestimated musician in my opinion
RIP Steve, my unacknowledged friend.
Here we go again!! Oh yeah,
JaneR
Steve Harley MR COOL
Not simple at all just brilliant
Oh man, so sad to hear.
Just heard the podcast with him on sound of the 70s with Johnny Walker on bbc sounds

R.I.P. Steve
RIP Steve Harley.
Rest in peace Steve.🕊️📿💔
"Bite through the shell of a Trebor spearmint soft mint and everything turns chewy and soft, they're crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside"
This Is My Favorite Song
Never we bored! thank you for the music.
brilliant song, and one of my favourite tv advert is MR soft!
I wished I had a time machine, just as well I've got youtube though
Everyone, doff your caps for Mr. Steve Harley.
Steve Harleys 'idiosyncratic style' is given full vent here! It's a wonderful single, and one which embodies both his mainstream, and more leftfield sensibilities as well!
I remember the mint advert from the 80's...
Always reminded me of a slightly more unsettling version of the chorus of Bowie's Velvet Goldmine, vocally somewhere betwen Ian Dury and Bowie's music hall mockney/Newley, although Steve's voice was the real deal, coming from Deptford. RIP Messrs Nice, Dury, and Jones.
Heaven. Rest in peace my beautiful sweetheart 😘
Rip Steve say hi to Marc Bolan for me ❤
And me. loved them both
Trebor soft mints brought me here
Same, had it mund for some reason so look up tune cuz I knew it wasn't a made for ad tune
Ditto
Bit of Bowie’s Velvet Goldmine in there
Soft in the head like. Not just the soft mints.
TOTP was 99.99% lip synching or at least pre-recorded backing but sometimes, often actually, the musicians would play pretty close to what they play on the record anyway, despite not being plugged into anything, because they'd played the song so much gigging.
Here the violin parts are being mimed on guitar. But he does at least approximate the violin rhythm and on the solo kind of gives up and flips between the two violoin parts.
A lot of bands made fun of the fact they were miming. When Eels did Novocaine For The Soul they used a kids drum kit. Pretty funny.
Love the bass on this. Sliding into the notes. I don't know if the recorded bass was done as in the video or it was some other thing like supplementary keyboard bass but it's unusual. Like a tuba. The note choices are like what you'd expect with a tuba on a fairground song. The whole thing, the backing vocals, percussion, sound effects, keyboard tones, all fabulously quirky. Great keyboard and violin solos. For the keyboard they took a cheap sounding tone no sensible person would use and then added distortion, and it's not a super short solo either. That's pretty ballsy. The opening note jumps of the violin solo are superb. And of course, it's Cockney Rebel, so you have to have a stop in the middle. Something new to discover with every listening. See how many keyboards you can count. I reckon there's about six. They are quite hard panned left and right so easy to pick out. There were a few bands back then that, when you look back, were doing some very odd things. 10cc, early Roxy Music amongst many others. Violin featured in quite a few as well come to think of it. Slade for instance.
Steve Harley was not one of the greatest lip syncers! But who cares?!!! Just love Make me smile
Kurt cobain was the one who changed all that by refusing to play unless he could sing, after that every one jumped on the band wagon
This isn't a Top of the Pops video, it is from the Dutch "Top Pop" programme. By the way LittleFluffy Bushbaby, haven't you heard of paragraph's?
@@davidmacgregor5193 Ah. I read TopPop as an abreviation of Top Of The Pops. The show has a similar look. Yes I've heard of The Paragraphs. A sixties soul band I believe. Ha ha
There's was apoint that groups had to play live to conform with PRS demands or something similiar...
ראיתי את סטיב הארלי בהופעות מהשנה 2023 ואני ממליצה לכל האוהבים, גם עכשיו הינו אמן יוצא מן הכלל וגבר יחודי וגברי באופן לא יאומן. 💜 💞 ♥️
